I was expecting the classic "Open Season is mediocre" complaint, but, fortunately, here there isn't any of that. I like your observant analysis on Elliot's character and that you don't find him as unlikable as many made him out to be. In my opinion, Boog and Elliot is the most charming duo of Sony Pictures Animation's library. It may not be the most original, but their interactions are priceless, in fact, that's why I prefer the first and the last movie to the middle ones. Most notably in "Scared Silly", they spend more time together and play with the clash between Boog's calmer, more rational and cautious demeanor to Elliot's reckless, bumbling and hyperactive behaviour more.

If you thought the franchise was crazy, try taking a look at the Open Season show "Open Season: Call Of Nature". From what IMDb tells me about "Open Season: Call Of Nature" the synopsis is this; "Best friends Boog, a risk-averse grizzly bear, and Elliot, a fast-talking deer, discover an abandoned summer camp in the middle of nowhere. They embark on an adventure to create a new place for animals to live and embrace their inner wild." If you ever have the time to give the show a watch as it currently has one season, I wish you good luck on trying to get through it.

I do consider myself to be a fan of Open Season but really only the first movie. You can't pay me to care about literally anything that came after it (though now I am considering Open Season 4) and honestly, Elliot was always my favorite character. I thought that he was cute and had a certain charm to him despite his shortcomings. I think what really solidified my love for him as a character was when he was willing to throw his life away to save Boog. By no means do I think Open Season is good, at best it's a decent movie to turn your brain off to. I've just always enjoyed it regardless. It's sequels however are actually mind numbing to sit through so I live in my own little world where the sequel movies don't exist

25:10 Ok, something important to note here. Elliot's voice actress in the 3rd movie is a trans woman. She did not publicly come out as a trans woman until 2016, 6 years after Open Season 3 was released. She also voiced the buff deer in the 2nd movie who was originally voiced by Patrick Warburton. She generally voiced male characters up to her transition, including Sparky from Fairly OddParents and Snaptrap from TUFF Puppy, and now generally provides voices for female characters. So Elliot being voiced by her in the 3rd movie is not necessarily a pro or a con.

Can’t believe you skipped the best part of the first movie, where Boog develops ptsd after a close encounter with Shaw in his cabin, and later showing said ptsd in their final encounter. Also I get you do the “HUH?” exclamations for content, but there are moments that you outright say you don’t know why a character is saying something or why something is happening when anyone who’s seen the movie can tell what’s going on pretty easily. I don’t know, it just makes it seem as if the movie is more scatter brained or nonsensical when in reality it’s not that bad. ‘Course I’m more defending the first movie with its decent character writing and jokes, not so much the sequels.

The biggest thing about Open Season for me is my dad convinced my siblings and I to ask my mom to give permision to extend his visit to take us to see it; but he actually went and saw the Trailer Park Boys movie instead, and left us in the other theater to watch Open Season. He even got soda and popcorn for himself and nothing for us 😭 So obviously Mom was pissed when we got home, in tears, because of what happened. God bless my uncle, who was in town, he took us to see it again and got us all the theater snacks too. So whenever I hear people talk about Open Season, I just think about that.

I played the PS2 game religiously-It was actually so good! You could throw the rabbits on hunter’s heads and steer them around. You could also throw skunks and ducks too, so I guess the game devs hate even more animals. XD
