Summertime Sadness, by Lana Del Rey (Bardcore/Medieval Style)
Good day fine people! I present a eulogy for a rather unpleasant summer, and wish you all a happier autumn!
In other news, I will likely be holding off on pursuing Spotify until I have enough songs to just upload a proper album. Rest assured I will announce it the moment I do. Also, I'd love to share another fun interview I did a little while back for those of you who are interested: bit.ly/3lMJqTv
Art: Codex Manesse 069r Werner von Teufen
Lyrics:
Kiss me once before thou goest
Summertide sorrow
I have loved thee the most
And shall love thee to my barrow
I don my red surcoat tonight
Dancing in the dark in the pale moonlight
Like Godiva, hair loose down to the thigh
Pattens off, I feel so alive
Oh, by God! I feel it in the air
Cathedral bells above a-ringing like a prayer
How my heart’s afire! I feel it everywhere
Naught can daunt me anymore
Kiss me once before thou goest
Summertide sorrow
I have loved thee the most
And shall love thee to my barrow
‘Tis but summertide,
Summertide sorrow
Summertide, summertide sorrow
‘Tis but summertide, summertide sorrow
Oh, oh, oh
I feel the wind with every stride
Riding nearly swift as the arrow flies
With my vagabond by my heavenly side
I know if I go, I shall die happy tonight
Oh, by God! I feel it in the air
Cathedral bells above a-ringing like a prayer
How my heart’s afire! I feel it everywhere
Naught can daunt me anymore
Kiss me once before thou goest
Summertide sorrow
I have loved thee the most
And shall love thee to my barrow
‘Tis the summertide,
Summertide sorrow
Summertide, summertide sorrow
‘Tis the summertide, summertide sorrow
Oh, oh-oh-oh-oh
I shall miss thee forever
Like the stars miss the sun in the morning sky
Later is better than never
E’en if thou art gone, I shall yet ride, ride, ride
‘Tis but summertide,
Summertide sorrow
Summertide, summertide sorrow
‘Tis but summertide, summertide sorrow
Oh, oh, oh
Kiss me once before thou goest
Summertide sorrow
I have loved thee the most
And shall love thee to my barrow
‘Tis but summertide,
Summertide sorrow
Summertide, summertide sorrow
‘Tis but summertide, summertide sorrow
Oh, oh, oh

It's a very grand love song, and so church bells and prayer fit in well with some of the religious references in the original. That, and the woman making these covers seems to understand lyrical poetry in as much as she understands music.

I bow down to the musical skill involved in making these. Other bardcore artists basically just play the original arrangement with ye olden times instruments, but these here are rearranged in such a way that my jaw literally drops at least once every song. The harmonies, the slightly changed scales to make them more period appropriate, the changed metric to fit the olde english. That's serious composition work. Brilliant.

My best friend and I love your content. It’s calming and relaxing. But my best friend is deaf. So I have to sign the lyrics to her while her hand is on the speaker. This is her favourite song because the flow of the lyrics matches nicely with the music. She loves how I sign along so easily and get into the music myself while still signing it to her, Signing these songs for her and even listening to them on my own makes my day even better. Thank you so much for this content. Update: my best friend got the implant and heard this song for the first time and she bawled.

It would seem our lady von Blingin' has been effected by the coming of the riders and the sounding of the seven trumpets. Bringing a great sadness upon her. However even now she provides us with performances to rival even the masters of old and for this. I am eternally grateful. A good morrow to all. Alex Petrie, I pray that your Lady will come to her Senses and that her Heart will be Revived by your Love. A Love that Heals and Conquers all. A Simple Secret in this Life that is often over looked is how Blessed and Noble Faithfulness to one's True Love is. Many waters cannot quench True Love. True Love's Kiss is life giving. The most powerful medicine of all is to be Truly Seen, Heard, Valued and Known. Friendship is the Seed of True Love which doth grow slowly and when Nurtured in Righteoumess will Blossom into the Glorious Fruit Bearing Union . To be so Blessed one must cultivate a Pure Heart and seek Divine guidance. As our Creator hath set this Noble, Wholesome desire for True Love in our Hearts. I pray that thee will be overflowing with Lovingkindness and tender mercies and thou True Heart's Desire may be fulfilled in due season. We have been riding north ever since, far away from our titles and responsibilities, to live in a small town near the coast until we pass from this mortal realm. The future is unsure and every hour I fear I shall hear the king's horses rampaging through this forest at our heels, yet never before has my heart been so full of bliss. Out of all the bardcore I've listen, this channel is for me both the most beautifull and worked on. Really good work on the instrumentation, word choice, melodic adaptation, rythm that each time both respect the original music AND some medieval convention (obviously not all, that would be impossible, but to be honnest that degree of success is already beyond what I would have expected to be feasible). I feel most bardcore tend to do one or the other too much, this is the perfect balance (at least for me) that gets both world. And lets not forget the beautifull voice and perfect singing to fit with all of that. A real dream to listen too.

Weirdly, some of the original Hildegard von Bingen's music went through a big revival in the 1990s (at least in classical and New Age circles) and a bunch of recordings of her music were made. Some albums are a little lame (excessive synthesizer and new age flute breaks) but the more straightforward renditions are awesome and were how I fulfilled my bardcore needs before bardcore existed. Off the top of my head, I'd recommend "Feather on the Breath of God" as a good place to start listening to von Bingen's work. You might also want to check out Maedival Babes' early albums, if you like the medival vibes.

I pray thou shall encounter this letter that i express how precious thy dréamcræft is to my heart. My mother believes thy ballads are unChristian, however i dispute. I find them all so sincere and eccentric. Into the bargain, i take much pleasure learning newfangled words such as weirdo. One of my greatest merriments is listening thy tówunderlic ballads whilst embroidering, and the sunbeams dauncen on my face and i dream of the possessor of my heart, Lord Narcisse. I trust thou will keep my secret for our love must liven in the shadows. Pray say many kind words from me to all thy blessed household. May thou continue in health and good spirits. To most reverend lady, farewell.

I can hardly imagine how long it took to put that comment together. It was a true pleasure reading this.

Extremely rarely do KZbin comments make me smile, and yet, here we go, ending of the 3rd paragraph, amazing.

@@ricomuru9486 lol I don't even know the commenter's gender nor am I interested in worshipping a person I only know from a KZbin comment. I just wanted to show that I appreciated the work he/she put into this.

@@georggroeg6014 I thank thee sincerely. It was notedly laborious seeing that English is not my native tongue howbeit i am immensely enraptured by thy generous words. I wish thee a blessed day. :)

the modern depiction of "witches", the ones you see at movies, books, and so on, are merely an invention, these stuff didn't happen at Christendom. They're legends created by the calvinists in england and the United States, or merely folk stories from Ireland.

@Austin Faulds I was kinda thinking of the three witches from Macbeth when I wrote that comment. Macbeth is set in 11th century Scotland (technically, medieval)

I might be missing it but did no one see the "Like Godiva" verse? That is some historical weight to this verse. Well play Hildegard. Well played. Also... all you're songs are amazing.
