The front wheel drives which make up the majority are the most dangerous & damaging to themselves as flooring it & spinning in this type of drive causes thousands of pounds damage not only to tyres & transmission but damages the steering also as turning the wheel while spinning causes a total loss of control & causes SERIOUS DAMAGE TO THE CV JOINTS which are overstressed above what they are designed for as turning the wheel to full lock while spinning will smash & destroy the cv joints as they are not meant to be at full lock while doing the equivalent of 40 mph. Rear wheel drives are much safer & less damaging to themselves as because the wheels are fixed only the tyres & transmission are damaged & are much safer as the steering is not affected.

What this country needs are snow vac sweeping machines which are used in the US But in the UK are only found in airports as these are much better & more effective than gritting as the physically remove the snow from the road & collect it leaving a totally clear road behind them There should be at least one of these in every local authority area as they would save a fortune in gritting costs & would do the job INSTANTLY which what is needed.

All of 'm had themselves to thank for it though so we watched from the windowseal with some hot coco. Would've filmed it, but the droplets on the window screwed with the focus. 1 of 'm hit a pole so badly the oil gushed out all over the street. Had to clean that stuff up with my spare aquariumsand. Cary 2 gallons of sand in your trunk during winter driving. When you start spinning your wheels, stop, get a scoop of sand and sprinkle in front and behind the drive tires . This will give you the traction you need to get going . This beats putting on chains for short trips .

@Lightningchase19739 жыл бұрын
Not only momentum. If you try to avoid spinning wheels you are lost. Driving 30 kph beeing in 2nd or 3rd gear, with a wheelspin like 70kph is near optimum, you bite uphill efficiently (I have a way steeper 20% grade street up home, no detour possible, and here in Austria we do have snow). That one car did it well... When you are stuck due to traffic, ist also you only can find the little grip you need by biting through the snow (rather high rom's, 2nd gear). If you gain some 20 kph you won. Anyhow it looks like most of the drivers managed their way up. For a that important street (amount of traffic) I am surprised about the amount of snow plows (zero)...
@petronela9106 жыл бұрын

Winter tyres feature specially designed tread patterns, which perform best when you are driving in cold weather. From seven degrees Celsius and below, these special patterns work together with bespoke rubber compounds to keep motorists on the road. A large number of motorists think that the winter tyre is only useful when driving on snow. But they are sorely mistaken, as there is much more to them than that. The tread pattern is crafted to disperse more water than conventional tyres when driving in the wet, while the compound itself is softer, meaning more grip is generated when it is cold, irrespective of whether it’s dry or not.

I have never seen snow in my life, but theory of snow I have learnt from many videos. This video is great because all cars try to climb up hill. Road authority should give permission to dive 1000 miles per hour like this season, even pedstain crossing around.
@AlienFreak695 жыл бұрын
I think half the people in the comments have never even driven a car. If you look closely, you'll notice most cars are using winter tires. I can't read the labels but I can tell from the design. Unfortunately winter tires don't make you immune to sliding. A couple of people suggested using snow chains. Chains would actually reduce traction. They are not for ice/slippery road. Chains are for snow. These drivers just needed to get a good momentum going and then maintain it. That's not always easy to do especially if your car starts sliding sideways and you don't correct it properly (also hard to do). The prime example of a correct climb was done by the last guy around 24:00. He maintained momentum and reached the top.

This is how people should be helping. Instead of filming the cars are on essentially a zero friction surface so a group of people pushing sideways to get a car to the curb instead of gaining momentum with locked wheels down the hill. I've personally used this trick before. Also for the ones driving especially downhill try to use the curb for traction. For those going up the hill try to stay to the snowpack as snow has more traction than ice, and whatever you do don't spin the tyres. Spinning the tyres creates partial melting which immediately refreezes into glaze ice so you are just messing up traction for everyone behind you. OMG this road down! Everyone needs to go a different route now.
