Here are a series of videos that are mainly played in our gallery alongside exhibits, but we wanted patrons unable to visit the museum on a regular basis the chance to access them at a moment's notice. Enjoy!

Sears sold a toy version of the Hiller Flying Platform in their 1957 Christmas catalog. It had a real one cylinder engine that used canned fuel. The toy was 7.5 inches tall including the pilot figure. It could take off vertically, hover and circle.

What happened to this? This could’ve been good for war

Imagine you’re a Vietcong soldier moving through a field and see this flying at you with machine guns. Could’ve shaped the war differently back then.

It was very slow. Top forward speed was only about 16 mph. Plus the pilot would be very exposed and easily targeted by sniper fire.

No. It would've been horrible for war.

It looks like the guy is yanking a pull cord to start the thing. 2:22 That's high technology worthy of the taxpayer's investment.
