Alright Hiller, I disagree with some of your content and opinions but bringing Sky Bri onto the channel to talk about how these dudes are quarter squatting is just big brain stuff and objectively hilarious. Good on you brother.

A pet peeve of mine is where ignoramuses watch a CrossFit video and then comment "that's not a pull-up". Hardly any critical comments are ever given to videos of gym bro's doing "strict pull-ups" but without ever fully extending their arms at the bottom. And as their no-reps go up in number their range of motion decreases.
@ftrprez1747 Жыл бұрын
10:38 this is the key part "in the Crossfit space." Crossfit has set standards. If I were taking a Marine Corps Physical Fitness Test, a kipping pull-up wouldn't count. On the old Army Physical Fitness Test, the standard for push-ups was upper arm parallel to the ground, not chest to the ground. My point is that if we want to complain about Crossfitters not meeting Crossfit standards, that's one thing. But just like we bitch about people complaining about Kipping Pull-ups, maybe lets not project our standards on to others.

According to my niece, they actually teach squats in high school that way. Also had a friends son that was a state champion high school wrestler and thats basically how they taught them squats in strength training.

Absolutely agree with you completely! Omg those Squats sucked haha. That's body building tho, no rep count, iffy depth, not worried about mobility or functionality only how they look. Body building is gar from a performance or movement standards sport. Tough in its own right with the diet, weight cutting and how you feel the last few weeks before a show but again it's not about performance. This is also why they hate Kipping pullups, most of them don't have the neuromuscular connectivity let alone the athletism to do them. Then you'll seem them push pressing and that's ok😂😂😂😂 same difference just different movements. Use your body to be efficient, get the work done or those couple extra "overload reps" but no they just hate on them because they are hard. I feel the fitness community in general (all fitness forms) need to come together, help, motivate and evolve all these sports and ourselves TOGETHER AS A WORLD WIDE FITNESS COMMUNITY! Keep it up Andrew! Love it!

I agree. It’s crazy. One thing though, there are some benefits to doing squats to 90 degrees for sprinters. They don’t necessarily need that full range of motion. But if you’re not a D1 sprinter, then you should squat to full depth all the time

5:15 RFK Jr. said it was his finisher after at the end of his chest day. Not meant to be “full ROM” push ups. It’s unfortunate that it’s the part that got filmed, because it got scrutinized as not being able to do full push ups.
@dvdjks Жыл бұрын
I’m only 63. My push-ups are better than RFK Jr’s. But I don’t obsess over standards. IT DOESN’T MATTER! I don’t compete. Can’t. TRT. I get the range of motion argument. But age is also a real thing and forcing range of motion to meet a standard can also result in very counterproductive injury. I look at my gym’s leaderboard sometimes to figure out pacing, but I don’t post scores to it, because I “cheat”.

I just had my high school reunions this weekend, and it never fail someone always challenges me to some sort of contest, so we do push-ups, and I had to lecture the man in mid contest several times to lock out his elbows and even slap his elbows to show him what I meant while I was also doing push-ups LOL yes theres a video

Sadly, this mentality of shortening reps has infiltrated CrossFit now and we see it with Games athlete (wink wink, Speegle) it would be great if top level athletes would call themselves out and others out and we could get back to moving with correct form and function. You would think that CrossFit HQ would do this, but they’ve shown the habit of ignoring poor movement or giving minor penalties for terrible reps. Based on the movement of many athletes, I would never do business with them, since they’ve shown the obvious attempts at cheating the system.
@hillerfit Жыл бұрын
The never do buisness with them is crazy. Not bad. Just a crazy parallel you've made.
@jlcragle Жыл бұрын
@@hillerfit Perhaps I should say, "I would have to really do extra due diligence", since these are the kinds of things that should give one pause. Like you said in the video, "perhaps the person doesn't know what a correct rep is", which might be true. Or, the athlete can't "feel" the bad rep and needs it pointed out. OR, they just don't care and are going to do poor movement anyway. The first case is fixable, since the person just needs to understand what they're doing wrong. In the second case, the person should film themselves to see the issues and then correct their movement. The final case is hopeless and I think is found in a lot of people who care more about "a score" and then make excuses (cough, Hippensteel), rather than do it right. Now, which of the above three cases, if any, would you do business with? If you cut corners at something that truly doesn't matter like a round of golf with friends, CrossFit workouts or other movement standards, then what does it say about what you'd do in cases that something does matter....like business? Integrity is integrity, regardless of the situation.

@shieldofdr3588 Жыл бұрын
Full range of motion isn't just "my sport's standards". The fact that you're unaware of the reasons for doing full range movement, doesn't mean it's "just because". The fact that Hiller didn't spell it all out for you, doesn't mean it's "just because". What a lame comment. And Hiller did point to one of the reasons, which you seemed to have missed completely. Routinely exercising in partial range of motion predisposes you to a greater chance of injury when moving with speed and power in full range of motion. Further, there's been a number of studies showing that you get greater strength and/or hypertrophy benefits from full range of motion. Here's two of them for you. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/23629583/ journals.lww.com/nsca-jscr/Fulltext/2012/08000/Effect_of_Range_of_Motion_on_Muscle_Strength_and.17.aspx Don't be a partial range of motion pump chump. That's bro science, bruh.

@@shieldofdr3588 people doing stupid stuff for clicks or regular people not competing must do full ROM. Gotcha. Let’s tell all the peloton folks that they don’t have proper cycling posture. How about all the crossfitters who don’t know proper rowing form? How about all those deadlifts without a controlled descent and full reset after each rep like a power lifter? How about those that don’t pause their bench presses and instead bounce it off their chests. Heck, if you want to talk about doing things right, half of CrossFit and crossfitters would be thrown out. Real Olympic lifters laugh at crossfitters because of their shitty techniques.

It’s ironic to hear all the arguments hiller made why we need cf then you remember Kipping is a movement cheat 😅
@casualarrogance Жыл бұрын
It’s not cheating at all, it’s a different movement for a different purpose. It’s like sprinting instead of walking lunges.
@pulkpuller Жыл бұрын
@@casualarrogance no that’s a completely different Exercise. Kipping is the exact same as pull-ups with the addition of using momentum to make it easier
@casualarrogance Жыл бұрын
@@pulkpuller No, you don’t know what you are talking about. Straight pull-ups are for strength/muscle growth, just like (weighted) walking lunges. Kipping pull-ups are for speed and metabolic conditioning, just like sprinting/running is. If you can’t stand kipping (cheating), then also a push jerk is wrong to you, right? Or swinging the arms back and forth while running. Less work to do, right?
@pulkpuller Жыл бұрын
@@casualarrogance so now Kipping is a pull up …hmmmm…. So the swing of the legs is not for momentum to help you get through the motions it’s for cardio.😆👌
