I do hope people stay for the whole video!! It’s a really interesting and thoroughly thought through perspective on what kind of difference a realistic amount of strength improvement could make for Haley.

Props Hiller! I think this is a very interesting topic to discuss so thanks for your analysis. A more accurate answer to the question you ask, how would an athlete perform with a 10% increase to their strength or conditioning (or whatever performance metric), would include a multitude of variables and generate many different outcomes. In general, I agree with the rankings you provide for Haley in the 2019 - 2022 games. How cool would it be if someone in the CF community created a multivariate regression model (non-linear) or stochastic model (nondeterministic) to provide a more accurate prediction or at least provide some insight in how an athlete may perform better/worse. Maybe I'm ignorant and coaches already use a mathmatical approach to training their athletes?

The fact that Haley is still always in top five or ten at the games every year is unreal knowing what her weakness is. She’s an absolute beast. If she can get herself a lot stronger? She can absolutely podium and challenge to win it all. I really hope I see it happen. She’s my favorite athlete and I’ve always wanted to see her reach her goals.
@clintiacuone17032 жыл бұрын
Maybe a slight controversial take but I feel like if she’s truely serious about getting stronger she needs to take atleast a full season off to just focus on improving that side of her game. Yes she could and is probably improving a bit by training that quality concurrently alongside everything else but a full year of just doing that would probably help her a lot

Agree Haley Adam’s Terminator cardio wise but if she just concentrated in that 10% she would be the bollox 💪🏾 Be interesting if she moves from the barn to address the strength with possibly HWPO with her mate Mal ? Watch this space… but brownie points for a brilliant review on the potential based on you number crunching no easy feat 👏 Great content Paul🏴

So this is by far one of my favorite videos so far. I have said the only thing g holding haley ba k is her lack of strength. She is a grunt worker and that is how she got her points and did so well. Imo she needs to make her focus an entire off season just strength. Look at what Craig Richey has done when he turned from doing 100% crossfit to olympic lifting the numbers skyrocketed.

I think you should have bumped her up in The Capitol too using a lot of your logic. Those carries were heavy for her. It was not the conditioning. I think you'll then find with reconfiguring, she places second.

This is very well done. She's such a likeable, seemingly high character kid, which makes her hard not to root for. She is a completely elite CF athlete whose only real hole seems like it could be fixed with the right game plan. Rich said he only eats 3000 calories with all those workouts, whereas Fraser said he eats 7000. Illegal substances aside, how much benefit could Haley gain from adding 1000 calories a day to her diet? I would think its hard for her to gain a lot of strength in part because of her metabolism. I bet she lifts enough for it to be considered a crazy strength cycle for a normal person, but if she's still doing metabolic conditioning for hours a day, maybe its just a calorie thing?

Mal kind disproved that “bigger stronger athletes do better on the bike” statement this year at the atlas games.
@spencergsmith2 жыл бұрын
There might be exceptions, but as a general rule, he’s correct. Bigger athletes have more mass to move the bike, rower, skierg, etc. more powerfully. At the very least we can assume that a stronger Haley would perform better on the bike than in her current state.

I agree with Michael, increased strength would have allowed her to place better in the Capitol event. A little extra strength lets her carry the sandbag a little longer
@phil2452 жыл бұрын
I think she'd place very high for sure. The fact that she gets top 10 when routinely getting low or no points on strength events is nuts. But I think this also shows that people aren't right when they think she should cut out cardio entirely to focus on strength, but should lower the volume to maintenance levels, and maybe take a week off during her hardest strength workouts. Putting her strength into the middle of the pack and avoiding cardio would make her a middle of the pack athlete imo

Well, if Haley isn't a "natty", then she needs a refund for her gear. Of course she's natty. The only way we can know if she needs to spend more time "under the bar" is to know how much time she's spending under the bar currently. Cardio fitness takes a good 6-8 weeks to develop. Whereas strength takes a long, long time - unless you're a genetic anomaly, or using gear of some kind, or a beginner. Beginner gains are real. For me, Haley is a kid. (I'm an old curmudgeon) I believe Tia is several years older than she is, so Tia, also having a background in Olympic lifts will almost always out-perform Haley, as well as most of the other ladies in weight related comps. The problem for Haley is Tia will likely retire before Haley can increase her lifts to be more competitive. It's going to take time. And, there are younger competitors - Mal O'Brien, for one - who is already ahead of Haley in strength. So, it really doesn't matter how much Haley works on her strength, because the other athletes will also be working on their strength. She may catch up 5-10 pounds on some athletes, but it won't amount to much. She'll always have some events she'll do very well in, but some events that will cause her problems. There's no way around it, unless the judges don't have a barbell or sled work in the CF games. She might get 3rd...at best. She's just not strong enough to win yet. Just my opinion, I'm no expert.

Cute to see any take on a top 20 male or female athlete as “natty”. I realize the discomfort of the truth but if Haley Adams is “natty”, she’s the greatest CrossFit athlete of all time! To be natural and compete at the level she has with PED supported athletes would be beyond remarkable. I have no reasonable idea why we buy into any the National level competitors being natural but pro bodybuilding has its believes too so anything is possible. The level of intensity, endurance, and repetition of effort over the necessary period of time including the competition itself combined with the size and definition are dead giveaways this is not and never again will be a “natty” competition.

@alexgalant29222 жыл бұрын
I think you need to redefine your natty or not. You are defining PEDs exclusively as muscle/strength increasing drugs when those types of drugs are only a small part of the WADA prohibited drugs. Cycling used to be considered the dirtiest of all sports because of the number of stimulants, other energy producing drugs, and recovery drugs they used. Virtually no one was using drugs to get jacked. So, while Haley Adams may not be using muscle building drugs, how do you know whether she's using the other types of performance drugs? I'll put monet down that more cross fit athletes are using the types of drugs cyclists use than strongman use.
