My only thought is to tread lightly when accusing someone of something so egregious... I can only talk about my experience and my personal transformation over the years. Starting CrossFit at 38 - overweight and out of shape, I've had a SIGNIFICANT transformation leading to three consecutive CrossFit Games Masters Wins... And I'm constantly accused (in comment sections) of using TRT, Steroids, PEDS, Stacks, etc. And I've never touched anything whatsoever. Not during the season. Not during the off season. Nothing. But, people look at my pictures, my abs, my body shape, and rely on those markers as 'clear evidence' that I must have been using something. It's incredibly frustrating. I'm happy to talk with anyone at any time about my experience over the past 8 years.

There is no two ways about it, Games level Crossfit athletes are freakishly fit with muscular development that would put many physique competitors to shame. Great video! And I think it's refreshing to hear from a CF person that can see the problems within. Not so stuck up and don't believe PED even exists in CF because they have "testing". Anyway traps and shoulder are a big give away in right context. For some reason they grow proportionally bigger than the rest. And there are some research backing this up too. But for top level athletes that already are near or at their natural max. Making a transformation in a year is not just good diet and harder training, impossible. When you are near your natural max you make very little progress each year no matter how hard you train. To be honest I am not so much curious IF they use but more WHAT they use. Also she might be a good responder too I mean she crushed the competition and I have a hard time believing the top 5 isn't using PED. And as for the picture in the water Winstrol make sense to use since you get stronger on that without putting on weight.

I don’t believe she’s on PED’s. You’re looking at photos of a different time in the sport. 2014,15 & 16 is a very different era to now. She was young and a bit fluffier, you could say the same about Annie in the early days. Look at her 2009 photos when she was a teenager compared to now. The photos of later at Mayhem she’s just put on a bit of weight and doesn’t have the same definition. What you have to realise is she is pretty small so any weight gain is going to take any definition away quickly, in particular for girls, men tend to get away with putting on more weight but keeping more definition. She’s grown into herself more as she’s gotten older and I think you will see the same transition with Haley as she builds more strength. You can already see similar changes with Haley but all these young ones have been doing CrossFit a lot longer than Tia had been when she started in 2014 so it’s not apples to apples. Don’t forget as well Tia was heavily focused on weight lifting for the Olympics in 2016 and commonwealth games in 2018. A lot of strength training and weight cutting impacts your body composition. She won almost all the events in 2019 and 2020 because there wasn’t the depth of field to take points away from her. Again I disagree it’s due to PED’s. She is the best of all time, I hope everyone can focus on her incredible achievements and celebrate her rather than trying to tear her down. Regardless if you “like her or not” she truly is the best to ever do it and it’s unlikely we’ll ever see the same reign from anyone like this again.
@GraftonPrimaryvideo2 жыл бұрын
It's not tearing her down. I also think she's the greatest of all time and love watching her compete. It makes no difference if she did it 100% clean or took a few peptides/SARMS along the way. They don't do the work for you.......they aren't like a magic pill that will win you the games. Of course we can't say she took anything cause she hasn't failed a Crossfit drug test. People get so emotionally invested in someone being "clean" for what? Because it means they did it all with grit and determination and protein powder? The athletes at the games are such freaks, and people expect them to be superhuman but then do it naturally. For some reason the blinders are on with Crossfit for so many cause they confuse the high level sport with the health and fitness program you do at your box and secretly think that they too could have gotten to the games when they were younger with just HWPO

When it comes to women, you have to look at their childhood development. I have one daughter that played soccer from age 4 and has legs that rival Hiller’s quads and has bigger calves. My other daughter was a gymnast since age 6 and has 8pack abs. You can make similar comparisons of girls that have a youth background in diving, dance and track. These are sports with incredibly repetitive movements that develop the muscle bellies from pre-puberty through young adulthood. So these women look like they are on gear but just have a lifetime of sport specific training. The other consideration is PCOS which is an androgenic condition that has all the good and bad effects of steroids but occurs naturally. I won’t make a guess of which female CrossFit athletes have PCOS but the square jaws, acne, hair loss and lumberjack shoulders are pretty telling .

I've long wondered at the role early extensive exercise plays on development, and to what degree 'genetics' reflect this period of time. When I was 16-18 I rowed at a local club following years of playing other sports. The training was very much focused on all-round athletic development - obviously rowing was a big part, but running, hill sprints, weights, callisthenics were all given a lot of focus. Following university I went back to the club for a few months to help out and do some training myself. Many of the kids who'd been going there since they were 8-10 years old had stuck it out, and were now 15+. One thing which stood out was how similarly developed they all were - broad shoulders, very lean, huge lats - despite having parents and siblings of all shapes and sizes.

@lotz8712 жыл бұрын
@@dhall75608 To your point yes absolutely - some female CrossFitters are bigger than some female bodybuilders but some are not it depends on division. Today the figure women are almost as big physique women. Not sure if you’re competing in a tested league or NPC/IFBB but in IFBB these women are legit big and some of them are much bigger than the crossfitters but after seeing some of these amazing athletes in person in Madison a few weeks back I can see that my assumptions are likely correct. Andrew actually nails many of the key points in this video. I’m very scientific and observant with how I trained and measure things. I managed to gain close to my genetic potential but no mater what I have done I can’t peak my body over 100lbs of lean mass while maintain a lower than average body fat percentage. I also don’t train like a traditional bodybuilder either - my training is more similar to CrossFit style with high intensity and compound lifting. There is just a genetic limit to what can be achieved. Now I am not saying 100% of everyone is 100% on something but when you look at aesthetics, development, mindset and leanness you can see where the performance enhancers are very prevalent. In my analysis Tia seems like she did all the hard work up front and then added things in, just as Andrew theorized. Not sure where you competed or how into the industry you have been but as someone with female friends taking PEDs and beating witness to the benefits I just see it as very obvious in CrossFit.

Look at how the whole field has shifted, it's nuts and now they have a wellness division and those girls aren't tiny either. Interesting about your training, I am sure CF helped you build even more muscle and even out your frame. I do everything measured so I heavily rely on DEXA scans for accuate information. Have you ever tried that? I will give you a much better idea of your progress - it's like x-ray vision. I manage to stay lean but it's a balancing act and head to do as a natural athlete. Another struggle natural athletes have when maintaining lean mass is the balance between upper and lower body. For instance, mountain biking and spin are great for my legs but then my upper body suffers and shrinks. If I was enhanced, i wouldn't have such a hard time finding the balance.

The level of muscle development is the kind you see in bodybuilding. Muscle density, maturity, and strength take time under tension. Everyone wants to believe that humans are naturally capable of constantly hitting new physical heights year after year but that’s just not the case. Tia would have won maybe 2 titles off of her natural ability. Given the fact that she is dominating so many different athletes who bring such unique levels of fitness year after year just proves that she is not natural. Last point - crossfit wasn’t around when I was in my 20s and I was athletic and could place a pounding on my body for days and keep coming back for a long weekend (soccer tournaments). So it’s possible for the truly genetically blessed to be able to recover nightly at the crossfit Games. They have everything so perfectly dialed in. Top things to address in the comments. 1- The Commonwealth Games / Olympic Testing There are two paths here. One, you accept that if you can pass WADA protocols (Which yes, athletes can AND DO) then the test at the CrossFit Games test is a no brainer. Two, you say that she gets tested more than anyone. Which is true. BUT so did Lance Armstrong. He never failed. Never. His sport was literrally called cycling. 2- A strong constructive counterargument in relation to aquiring fitness over decades. This is fair. This is possible. This is productive. I will read this comment and see that you have filtered through the video (as usually you state you are hopeful that I am wrong). In this instance THESE comments have the same validity as the my video. 3- You're to negative And yet you are here and commenting on my video. I can also determine that you only see what you want to see. So there is no point in having conversation with you. I state that my video is of opinion. Lets just say, comments 1+3 show that you came here with an agenda. Comment 2 shows that you are open to the possibility of being wrong. I also have an agenda. If you are reading this then thank you. There's no one such thing as "WADA testing proctocols". They differ from sport to sport in many ways, from the frequency of out of competititon testing, to the number of people randomly tested during comps, how often they're tested in comp, to the kinds of tests being done at what times of the year. Some international feds pay a lot for a lot of testing and some do not. National anti-doping agencies, e.g., USADA, test athletes under their jurisdiction differently. I don't know what it is going on right now in weightlifting, since WL recently started to suspend whole teams and was/is threatened with being kicked out of the Olympic Games, but not too long ago, weightlifting hardly tested at all compared to other sports, like cycling and track and field. (These sorts of stats are online. Somewhere. I've seen them before.) The claim that she was in the testing pool for WL doesn't imply much at all. It's possible she was never tested at all by the IWF, ASADA, or anyone else. She never won a WL event, which usually triggers automatic testing now. She was 14th at the 2016 Games. The odds of being randomly selected for testing at the Olympics Games are low, and since she was a nobody in the sport, she wouldn't have been targeted for testing. She was third at the 2016 Oceana WL championships. She might have been tested then, if they tested the entire podium. Often only winners are tested in many sports. Again, the practices differ greatly. By the way, Lance Armstrong did fail a test. He popped for cortisone at the 1999 Tour de France. His team doctor wrote a prescription and backdated it, and the doctor, team, and Lance came up with the story that the prescription was for a saddle sore. He was supposed to get an exemption before hand. But the UCI let it slide.

I think the days of following the Crossfit WOD and turning up to compete at the games are long gone. Its a full-time career with decent prize money and sponsorship which in itself encourages people to do things to win. I think people need to accept that the Games level athletes are freakish and it is not possible to handle that kind of volume and recover year after year without some needing some extra help in the off season. I don't think everybody is on PEDs, just the amount that are would probably surprise people. I still enjoy watching the games cause even if someone is on something, it won't do the work for you. She competed at both the Commonwealth Games (2018) and the Olympics (2016) and trialling for the Olympics in 2021/2022 where they have much tougher testing protocols. At least she has been subject to additional testing, more than other CrossFit athletes and this is a very long period of time to be subject to those protocols. It strikes me that there are other data that need to be gathered in order to make an *informed* assessment of an athlete's fitness, whether 'natural' or 'enhanced'. One such datum is workout schedule: what has one done in workouts to reach the level of fitness she or he has? One text I continue to hear about juiced jocks is that they medicate to get shortcuts to fitness or physique. Is this true of Tia? When comparing her workout schedule with other competition, does it seem she takes shortcuts to get where she now is? I've not heard this said about Mal O'Brien--perhaps because of her age, her small size, her newness to the stage, and so on. But perhaps it's also because it is generally admitted that no one works harder than she. Perhaps the same about Froning, although some chatter in his case about being 'enhanced', which I've always doubted. His progression seems pretty natural given the demands he makes on himself and given the testimony of others (another datum). In any case, Andrew, I wonder if folks have noticed Tia slacking off on her workout schedule while remaining on her fitness and physique upgrades.

I just wanna say, the confidence part, you don't need PEDs to boost yours. I was always very positive person but with some negativity going inward, for mostly the physical reasons. After starting CrossFit at age 37, my transformation of both physical and mental were astonishing. 4.5 years later, I am ever so confident without shaming myself and even get recognized by random people whether I do CrossFit because of my physique (upper body mainly) and I am just a regular ol' gym goer who enjoys her exercise. Somebody also said that women changes their bodyweight/shape pre and during period. We literally have *maybe* 2 weeks where we could truly lose weight out. It's different than men's body for sure.

Yeah. Hiller basically just body shamed Tia for looking “too big” and “too muscular” sometimes. In an age of lighting, Instagram filters, etc. If I was a female athlete in his region, I’d never want to go to his gym

You should do a video on what exactly CrossFit tests for and if someone were to do PED’s what they could get away with using.

Hiller, you neglect to mention she competed it the Commonwealth Games in 2018 and would have been subjected to WADA testing through that period. It didn't fit with your narrative I suppose.

Everyone can make assumptions. Yours is incorrect. The truth here is I didn't know about this. I can throw it into the bucket of the Olympics though.

Do you think WADA testing is infallible and no-one at the Olympics is on gear? Not saying that I really could tell you if Tia was on something , just that being tested by WADA is no guarantee that someone isn't on a high level supplement program with PEDS

Every time these post come up about natty or not I find that statements are pretty much the same across the board. People try to paint the person as not natty and on some sort of drug without zero proof to back the claim. Same thing here in this video. We can analyze picture after picture and videos through the years and still be wrong. I'd rather not ruin someone's reputation and name on pictures and zero evidence as it could cost them in some fashion. So give me the picture with the needle in her arm, or the doctor who gave her the drugs, or the failed drug test, or friend whose watched her take the drugs, then I would believe you.

I enjoyed watching her when she didn’t dominate the field by hundreds of points and also had the dominant attitude. It turned me off when she would scream after winning weightlifting events. Can’t wait til she retires, is this the new CrossFit where the 1st place finisher has to win year after year? Didn’t tune into the games this year partly because of that.

Ah but this year the programming threw a wrench into the predictable outcomes of years past. For the first 3 days Tia was not in the lead 😮

Returning to comment because I just watched her in the CF invitational 2015(?) and she looks and sounds like a different woman. Voice, face, and figure even though she was arguably in top tier condition then too. Also the way she holds her self posture and the way she moves AND the way she moves through the workouts themselves. Yes she is younger and has gotten better and more efficient in all things. HOWEVER it’s something more than that that is hard to precisely articulate. Side note it’s very different in comparison to all the other athletes who have had the same growth and time (like a rookie Brooke wells who was also at that event) Brooke is also much older fitter and more mature but there isn’t the drastic difference though Brookes muscle is quite different now

You can definitely look at someone’s abs and muscles, after YEARS of being in fitness and sports, and tell okay those muscles don’t look natural on that body frame

What we fail to realize is how long they’ve been training. Something called muscle maturity. If your body isn’t changing. Than you’re doing something wrong in your training and nutrition

I wanted to post this somewhere you could see it. I'm coming here after having watched your video and the entire debate between you Sevan and Hunter on the Sevan Podcast. If you end up making another one of these again (also applies to this one) you should keep in mind what we call "confirmation bias". Our brains are preconditioned to filter out details or data disproving our beliefs about certain things (i.e., someone passing a drug test, the fact that Tia gets better year by year, the fact that cuts (2019) and the reduced athlete field (2020) make her appear that she's dominating significantly more that what might actually be true if the entire field was there, and other stuff) and at the same time only retain those details that will help us prove our point. That is what makes us humans. Recognizing patterns even where they may not even exist (i.e., something hiding behind the bushes that might attack you) is what led to the human kind surviving and evolving through time. If you want to make a rational claim/argument however, you should consider the following: "Whenever you believe something to be true, you should try as hard as you can to disprove it. Only then, and only if you truly fail or succeed you will truly know whether you were right or wrong from the start". This goes a long way in scientific thinking and writing but obviously has limitations in areas such as this one. How could you possibly prove or disprove something like this? Maybe you have sources that you don't like to ever reveal and that's understandable but you also must know that there's still a chance that they might be wrong or providing you with false information (willingly or unwillingly). I thing the question of whether these athletes are on gear or not is a question worth asking for sure. Just not entirely sure on how this affects you (if at all) by publicly saying that Tia or someone else is on gear when you don't have (or are not willing to provide) hard evidence to support it.

I've been around long enough to remember the negative Nancy Tia Toomey and thought the mental shift was interesting. Never went this far with it but it makes sense. How does someone with so little self confidence get the determination to win by more than 100 points the following year. She's literally a completely different person.
@ianbrewer48432 жыл бұрын
It can happen, and did happen. She had and has a great coach who pushed her physically and mentally.
@OK-qd9lj2 жыл бұрын
She was in second place for 2 years (to Katrin). Then she won 1st place by only 2 points (over Kara Webb). Then she started winning 1st by bigger margins. Seems like a pretty normal way for someone to build confidence. Matt Fraser had a similar trajectory. Why not accuse him too?
@barkingbabs2 жыл бұрын
Watch the docs and she talks about that. She also only won by 2 points the first time she won.

Results drive confidence. Winners know this...losers cry foul. I have no dog in this hunt. I don't give a crap about Tia...but if new found confidence is the capstone of your argument, I suggest you try winning a title that starts with "best" and ends with "in the world." If it doesn't alter your self-image, you'll be the first.

I think the biggest thing you left out was her age during these years you say she used PEDs. You have to take into consideration women’s body’s developments in their early to mid 20’s because it is still happening. You also didn’t mention how the entire field looks totally different today than it did in 2015.
