I passed my driving test in a Hillman Minx, in Clarendon Road Watford. Four speed column change with a tendancy to hop out of third! Some things are so traumatic one never forgets.

My very first car, I believe it was a 1956 model bought it in 1970 for £55, from my old boss, having just finished my apprenticeship as a newly qualified welder, it was all T could afford, but I soon found out, girls would much rather be in my car, than on the back of a wet and windy Vespa, or Lambretta , I kept the front seat highly polished, a deft left flick of the steering wheel, was certain to have the little lady of choice that evening, sliding close beside me. the fact that the base of the rear seat could be simply and quickly removed, was a huge added bonus. I loved that car, but as with so many 60's 70's cars, mine succumbed to the "rust goblins" the chassis so badly corroded it was beyond financial repair, i still hanker for the chance to drive one again. Late 60's early 70's,very happy days. great music, pretty girls, cheap beer and cigarettes, and no breathalyser, what a time for a 20 year old.
