Hi any ideas how to lift out the clothesline from the socket if its been in place for a while. Also been raining so may have a suction effect. I cant lift it out, do I need to turn it?

If the line is not taken in and out regularly they can get pretty locked up... no easy option here to get them out and no secret sauce from our installers either. If they are jammed you can drill a hole through the main pole and insert a metal rod and try and jack in out as final straw.

How do you make it spin? Mine just stays in one position.

When I slide the clothesline in position there is too much pressure and it pops out of position and folds back down any solutions?

2:20 he says place the socket over the main standard and lock it into position, what does he mean as it only allows it to go up/down. I get the locking ring part afterwards. Is this a mistake?

This is to lock the clothesline into the socket to allow for easy installation of the socket and to make sure its vertical. The locking colar is released when you want to remove the clothesline from the ground and fold it up.

Mine is a fixed one and its handle broke (the still ball housing split in two!) . I find the hills site very poor it seems it's only dealing with new product, and under "obsolete" it's not better I can't see any housing like mine. As mine is very sleek, made of two plastic covers that clip into each other's and seemed to be held together with top and bottom sleeves (obviously installed before pole erection) The handle arm disappears inside that housing ... No external fastening visible.

You slide the top cover up and the bottom section down and then the handle case will split in 2 allowing easy replacement of the broken Hills Hoist Handle. If the handle has a white cog behind the housing, this type of handle is no longer available and the whole unit will need to be replaced. If the unit has a square steel drive rod, then replacement handles are still available for this type of unit. You can find replacement Hills Hoist handles here - clotheslinespareparts.com.au/

My clothesline won’t open when I wind the handle, it just makes a clicking noise when it reaches a certain point

Sounds like a broken internal mechanism... you could try here for parts - clotheslinespareparts.com.au/ or www.lifestyleclotheslines.com.au for a new Hills Hoist unit.

I wound my clothes line up too high now it won't wind down. Any suggestions?

If you hold a slight amount of pressure on the arm, then wind the unit anti clock wise hopefully the gearing will pick back up for the worm drive and wind down again.

Normally if you start at the outside and work you way into the middle is the best option for replacing the lines
