Just a couple of things to note Postcrete (which is what i think you were using) does not need to be applied that way. Just just fill the hole (1/3) with water and then dump the bag in. There is no harm im giving it a mix but a novice could run the risk of not being quick enough and it goes off. It is designed to be applied with a fench post already in the hole. Those beasts need a little time to centre and secure before setting. You should install the tube first and then add the post crete. This makes sure that any water that gathers in the tube can drain out the bottom. If you add the tube in after the mix is done you will have postcrete inside the tune and will seal it meaning if you take the rotary line out of the hole and it rains, rain will just sit in the tube. At the end it is helpful to add 100mm of soil on top of the set postcrete. This helps the grass and helps with drainage. I have a very large rotary and it hoists up increasing its height and therefore increases the leaning force. To try and help this i slightly increase the base at the bottom of the hole so the base is wider than the head of the hole. This should create more stability but thats only for large systems as they will inevitably have more weight on them.

I like your reply. I am wondering if it is possible to make a rotary clothesline taller? Thank you
@jonunwin2780
@jonunwin2780 2 жыл бұрын
@@lindabarrett5455 It could be possible by increasing the central column. The main issue you then have is to reach the line. Higher lines will also need stronger bases due to the leaning weight. My rotary line has a wind up mechanism to increase the height but this is not by much. If you really want some heigh you could get a pneumatic antenna mast but thats not worth the effort.

Definately right about ramming tube into earth first especially if metal so rain water can drain away.

Gave me info enough to get me to reposition mine. After spending over an hour, 2 years ago, with the Brabantia spike, hammering that fu**** in to the ground (we have bad "soil" round here) and not being able to feel my arms for two days, I vowed I'd never do it again! This method digging the hole was the most effort, as being a newish estate the ground is 50% soil and 50% rubble, concrete and other builders waste 🙄 However, I would never have had the time to put the tube in after a lot of the Postcrete and water had gone in. The stuff I used ( I got off my fencer) set so quick, I was glad the spike was in and fairly upright (level) there was very little play room even after 2 minutes!! First I tapped lightly so my spike was upright, then added the 1/3rd water then started to add the Postcrete in bit by bit. Didn't need much stirring as pack said don't mix, just stirred it a bit so the water absorbed all the powder. I believe there are several varieties of Postcrete that have different set times, my stuff was incredibly fast! Thanks for the upload.

@@TheThorpester, actually no! He wants me to have an outside line, but to where he can easily pull out a metal tube and mow over it. Outside clotheslines are a HUGE non-selling point where we are and he wanted something where when we do sell, there's no digging of anything to get it out of the ground, we can essentially throw some dirt over the top and move on. With the old fashioned post clothesline, the damn posts are in there and if a buyer doesn't want it, it's HOURS and a hell of a lot of work to dig it up....This way, all we have to do is pull the bar out of the ground, fill it with dirt and sprinkle grass seed! All we will need to do to reuse the spinning line is get another piece of PVC. We had one that was attached to our fence, basically a string that went from one side of the fence to another, and that was a complete pain as he had to take it down and put it back up and tighten it every time he mowed the yard. You solved us a lot of arguing by posting this video. I get what I want, he gets what he wants. Add "marriage councilor" to your KZbin name.

Lols that's outstanding! A happy couple! I can now rest and sleep tonight knowing that I helped. I agree with normal clothes lines. They're an absolute pain. As you say, these can be popped out the ground and stored out of sight when not in use and mowed over AND they can vanish for good when done with. You too have a great night ;)

@@TheThorpester, I've no idea what country you are in, we are in the US. We just got back from Home Depot, we got a 60 pound bag of concrete (used all of it...My husband dug a larger hole than needed)...The little plastic pipe/spike that was sent with ours is very flimsy so we took it with us to the store to get some black ABS 1 1/2 inch pipe instead (same exact dimension as the plastic spike). I bought a cap with it and used some Oatey ABS cement just to insure the cap stayed on the bottom. My husband finally got the hole dug (we have clay/rock here) and it took us maybe 15 minutes with the stirring to get all the concrete in. Yours was set after 24 hours, I am going to check mine tomorrow to see if the concrete is set. I got the 4000 PSI high strength stuff just to make sure it doesn't go anywhere. I also got another cap for the top so in the winter (it snows where we are) as well as when mowing, we don't get stuff in the pipe! Very excited to get laundry hanging outside! Thanks again!
