I am deeply grateful for your kind words, Asra. Everything you’ve created is absolutely beautiful and beyond my expectations. You've captured every detail of Wakhi culture so authentically and thoughtfully. Thank you so much for mentioning my company as well! On behalf of the entire Wakhi community, I would like to express our heartfelt appreciation for showcasing our culture to the world. Your work truly honors our heritage, and we are grateful for the care you have taken to represent us.😍🥰 (I had the pleasure of meeting her during her visit to Pakistan in 2021. Her dedication, attention to detail, and thorough research are evident throughout the video. In about 35 minutes, Asra provides a deep and insightful look into a culture that spans over 10 centuries and stretches across more than four countries) Thank you, Asra, for this exceptional video, for the thoughtful presentation, and for showcasing our culture so positively. We hope you’ll visit again to experience even more aspects of our heritage. Wishing you all the best in your future endeavors!🙏

I had no idea the Wakhi people even existed before watching this, and now I feel like I’ve had a glimpse into their world - like we were right there with you, soaking up their traditions, their way of life, and that incredible mountain scenery. Their everyday views better than most holiday spots! 😂 Your videos have this way of making peoiple feel like they're discovering a whole new country for the first time, seeing it through your lens. I’ve never been to Pakistan, but this makes me want to pack my bags and just explore. From the hats and dance moves to the apricot kernels and rukhun tubaq (I mean, who knew?), every little detail was so fascinating to learn about. It’s amazing how rich their culture is and how much history and meaning is tied to their traditions - The way the community comes together for the wedding, the kids looking after you, and the family sleeping all in one room - it’s just so different from what most of us know, but it feels so warm and welcoming! P.S. Is it just me, or is anyone else suddenly craving apricots and ghee? 😂

@ You know there is a also a tribe/people who extract “gold” from river indus bank in gilgit . The process by which they do is unique and ancient one maybe you have noticed tents on river banks in KKH , they are those people . I hope you do a video about them . There are gemstone extraction spots in KKH or skardu road . It is also done by local people plz do a video on that also , it will be interesting. Also there is a unique concept of centuries old himalayan ritual of “shamanism” to control evil spirits in hunza /nagar/gilgit . I wished you have witnessed that as it is terrifying and unique experience but it is rare nowadays . Lastly once again I would recommend you to visit Astore district as it is unexplored one . Go to minimarg, domail , kala pani , rama lake , ratu villages of this district . And thanks alot for your incredible work on GB and 🇵🇰❤️❤️❤️

Assalam-o-Alaikum Little Friend... I had to watch this episode in 2 parts, first on 10th and second today (19th) as I myself was busy in a wedding ceremony. I have always admired your focus on highlighting even small details and facts about whatever you are presenting in each episode. Above all, your mingling with local people, becoming a part of the family and enjoying the cultural traditions is truly lovable. Your efforts and hard work is speaking through the comments of your viewers. May Allah keep you and your loved ones blessed always and fulfil all your righteous desires. Ameen.

This is a truly uplifting documentary. What a beautiful backdrop for a wonderful wedding. The Wakhi are a beautiful, gentle people. The children are delightful, and they seem to adore your presence. Words like Putuk, Shuparzuan, Lumberdar, and Ala Lumberdar are as evocative as the surrounding mountains. The traditions are rich, and one hopes they survive the ravages of modernity, as I do for the unique language as well. Much of humanity might suffer under severe poverty, but abundant kindness and generosity, as you have shown us among the Wakhi, more than compensate for the lack of material comfort. At least the Wakhi have been spared the violence and destruction that has affected the region in recent years. Thank you so much, Asra, for giving us a window into this unique part of the world.

Life in the north is very different. I visited outside of tourist high season, and it’s just so different. So dark at night, so cold… so harsh… but the natural environment is just perfection ❤️ it must be so challenging to live there, though. And it’s true what you say about the literacy and society in Hunza… it’s like a different mindset. Love the music choices! So interesting to know that they begin with prayers in Farsi! And the wedding traditions are so different to those of “mainland” Pakistan 😍 love the couple on the tractor! Best wishes Karim and Nahida for a long, happy, healthy and peaceful life together ❤️

After the long wait of two months, finally it's here and I finally got the chance to see it in big screen as it's meant to be watched and experienced. This docu-series is something else because it's exciting, entertaining and educational at the same time. Exploring the unexplored places is kind of a norm but exploring culture in such depth with a deep personal touch and experience is rare. Thank you Asra, for taking us through the cultural experience of Wakhi people. Even as a Pakistani, I was mostly unaware of their simple yet elegant life style. Your storytelling technique feels like it's at its peak here while you take us through their homes, their streets, their surroundings and their overall way of life. Wakhi are indeed a beautiful people inside and out and you've successfully achieved showing us just that. Happy Marriage to the beautiful couple and may they have a happy blessed life together. Well done for this episode. You definitely outdid yourself here and may you keep doing that. Eagerly Waiting for the next episode. Regards Abdullah Azzam From Islamabad, Pakistan 🇵🇰

Wow. Just watched Episode 2. Captivating! How did you get the night sky footage? What did you honestly think of the ghee and apricot kernel oil and milk dish? You can definitely see the Persian influence on the community, the groom was dressed more like a sultan. Apologies if I don't use the right language but when they say prayers, they caress their face with their hands, what does this signify? Everything about these people is so colourful. They have a real zest for life and celebration which came over in the documentary. My Dad used to be a farmer. Helloooo my friend how lovely to see a message from somebody that I met! I really enjoyed reading your message you put a smile on my face. Thank you for watching and for such kind words. Omg you live in London?! Are you still here? I am in London ALL the time I was just there last week! We MUST meet! I am from the Midlands but I am down south often. All of my family are there as well. The reason why you didn’t know that I was there to shoot Karim’s wedding is because… I WASN’T there to shoot Karim’s wedding! Hahaha 😜 I was simply a tourist in Pakistan. Abida and & became friends and she very kindly invited me to the wedding. I had NO IDEA just how unique and different you people are so my experience at Karim’s wedding and in Hunza in general was just absolutely BEWILDERING! But because I wasn’t in Pakistan to shoot I don’t have any good footage ☹️ the only photos/videos that I have are those that a typical tourist would take. So basically a load of rubbish!! Which is why you’ll notice that in this documentary a lot of the footage isn’t mine! People VERY kindly gave me footage for the making of this documentary. As I travelled around Pakistan I was absolutely bewildered by what I was seeing. I had no idea that the country had so much to offer. So it was In Pakistan that I discovered what I want to do with the rest of my life which is to make documentaries on cultures around the world. So after returning to England I didn’t go back to my job, I started a new career on KZbin! So I have to say a big Thank You to people like YOU for helping me discover what my real calling in life is! I am absolutely GUTTED that I didn’t film Karim’s wedding properly & did such a terrible job. I was complaining to Abida yesterday that I wish I had documented his wedding properly, had a proper camera etc etc But now that I know what I did wrong and now that I am taking this seriously, I PROMISE for your wedding I shall do a much BETTER job! It will be 10 times better! Very professional and very high quality. You’ll be showing your grandchildren! 😉😜 Thank you again for watching and please keep in touch. Watching this felt like a journey not just through their valleys and mountains but also through their life and traditions. This documentary captures both the strength and vulnerability of a way of life many might not know. Also, seeing how they thrive without WiFi. Now that's true strength! 😂 Thank you Asra and the Wakhi people for allowing us a glimpse into such a unique world. PS. A Special Thank you for the apricot kernals! Makes the gift even more meaningful knowing how important they are to your traditions. A small taste of Wakhi life that I wont forget. ❤❤❤

A lot of the men amongst the different tribes do cook I learnt a lot from them. It was a great experience. God knows if desi men will watch and learn 🤷🏽‍♀️ they’ll probably come up with the excuse that it’s their culture not ours hahaha. Hello hello! So lovely to wake up and see your comment from a Wakhi individual 😍 Thank you for such kind words you made me smile. Where are you from? Even though I stayed in Ghulkin I was all over Gojal! Maybe I had met your family? Regarding “chapati” it’s not actually an Urdu word! It’s an English word. The Urdu word is “roti”. Although the word “chapati” derives from Sanskrit it is used both in Hindi and English but predominantly English and in Hindi/urdu we say roti 😋 which is why in all of the supermarkets here in the UK it will be sold as ‘chapati’ to the English market. If you just google ‘what is roti in English?’ You’ll be able to read further 🙂 I find these things very interesting I’m very fascinated by languages. Thank you for teaching me the wakhi word ‘Nigan’. I hope you can teach me some more Wakhi when we meet in person! I am inviting myself to your home in Gojal! Hahahaha 😜😂 Thank you again for watching please do keep in touch! @asrahussainn it was fascinating to see the Wakhi people tucked in a small corner. What was interesting to note in your coverage was the location of the tribe as that was also close to the route that connected the sub continent with central Asia. The dance for example had steps and hand actions similar to some dances in himachal and ladakh. The bridal dress was similar to one region of Turkey and women were not wearing the hijab. Then the use of urdu as a bridge being used. I was also wondering if they had pashto in their original wakhi dialect but since I don't know pashto could not figure out. Then the wedding ceremony customs are so similar to the mountain regions in the himalayas. It was also interesting to note the word 'chapati' as mostly hill people have bread influences of roti rather than chapati. The method of use of clarified butter in preparing of the dishes seemed unique as was its preservation though some areas in Nepal use rancid butter for tea. And lastly my fascination for the region and Pakistan in general as my grandfather studied in lahore at aitcheson and I look forward to a trip to lahore and peshawar some day. So the travel agency me tion in the Video was helpful. Nice to see a young girl do these adventures as I was a avid trekker in the himalayas during the 80's and 90's particularly in the snow leopard areas of the Indian side of the himalayas. All the best in your adventures

What fantastic feedback you gave thank you! And you are incredibly well travelled you must write a book! Where are you from? Your points were so fantastic I’ll refer to them individually 1. Yes you’re absolutely right about the location being close to Central Asia! It was part of the “Silk Road” (an ancient trade route) which connected China to Rome to trade silk, spices & wool. I’m sure you already know about this- I’m preaching to the choir here 😂😂 2. Since I’ve posted my Wakhi documentary, other people’s videos have been popping up in my recommended of Tajiks in China, Tajikistan, etc etc. the culture is practically the same as the Wakhis and the comments are filled with Wakhi people! So I’m trying to understand if Wakhi people are originally Tajik but then again their origin is unclear so it’s a hard one to figure out 🤷🏽‍♀️😩 3. I would assume that the people in Himachel & Ladakh would have overlapping culture with the Wakhis (& other mountain tribes I will show you in future) because they’re Himalayan? I know that the Balti people of Skardu (Pakistan Himalayas) are also found in India. But I have noticed overlapping cultures with mountain people in general. 4. Sorry I wasn’t clear with the chapati part! I used the word ‘chapati’ when describing the roti, because that is the English word for it. It is also sold to the English market as ‘chapati’ here in the UK. The Wakhis don’t say chapatti or roti they have their own word in the wakhi language which I completely forgot 😂🙈 How lovely to hear about your grandfather studying in Lahore! 😍 where is he now? I really hope you get your travel Lahore & Peshawar you’ll have the best time. I would absolutely love for you to watch my introduction documentary. I explain why I ended up in Pakistan & it links to my grandfather. It’s a very emotional story - many have wept tears. I’m sure you’ll enjoy 🙂 and you’ll relate because of your grandfather. I did enjoy the sites but at the time it was just too hot for me so I think next time I come to Lahore I will have to time my trip properly. And you must take some time out for me and take me to local spots that tourists don’t know about! You’ve seen episode 1 right? I do cover Lahore very briefly, I just didn’t shoot any documentaries there and I didn’t come across any stories that were very unique. Maybe because my time there was limited. But please do pray for me inshallah in future I can have a team and be sponsored so I can shoot an absolutely bewildering documentary on a story I found in Lahore! @ Oooh ok no worries you have a fantastic day at work and we can chat once you are back home 🥰 I’ve never been to Canada I’d love to visit one day 😍 If you’re talking about my email info@asrahussain.com then that sometimes doesn’t work when people respond to it 😩 best option is private message me on Instagram (@asrahussain) and we can keep in touch. Have a great day and look forward to speaking with you later!

Heyy Faizan I’ll check my TikTok later but I hardly use that too. My email is asrahussain20@hotmail.com Ok so the other day after we spoke and you went to work I contacted KZbin support and Final Cut Pro support (the editing software that I use) and they explained everything to me and what I did wrong. I made such a stooooopid mistake!! 😩😩 I’m kicking myself! But they did explain to me that the difference between 720 & 1080p is minimal. The real difference is when it’s 4k. Unfortunately nothing that I have filmed is in 4k ☹️ so just know that for this series even if KZbin gives the option of watching my video in 4k, majority of the documentary will only be in 1080p as you can’t upgrade footage ☹️ You may recall in episode 1 I mention that when I visited Pakistan I didn’t intend to film. I was simply a tourist. Hence I took videos/pics like a typical tourist would. Which is why everything is very shabby. Trust me I am kicking myself now. But once this series is over I am excited to get back out but this time I will film PROPERLY! I’ll have much better equipment & please pray that I have a team! I can’t be doing this one-man show anymore it’s too hard 😩😩 so you have to keep me in your prayers pleaseeee! 🤲🏽

Wsalaam. Thank You for your kind words and for your support. I appreciate you ☺ I don't put any country flag because my stories aren't targeted to a particular group of people. They're for everyone! Story telling especially documentaries that showcase such unique cultures should be everyone🙂I was having a conversation this morning with an Austrian family. They loved my documentary and said it took them back to their homeland in the Austrian Alps and made them very homesick! So you see, different people connect to my stories in different ways. I hope you understand 🙂Thank you again for supporting me. Lots of love❤

Including Karim’s bride Nahida it’s 5 brides in total! I explain in the voiceover that I am using different footage. Maybe you missed it? Have a watch again it’s very hard to get everything in one go because there’s SO much information to take in! 😂😄 so when you watch a second time round it makes a lot more sense. @ omggg my friend you are wakhi?! Have we met? Did you recognise anyone from the documentary? Please do share im so keen to know! And where are you from? As you saw I was in ghulkin but also spent time in all of gojal and rest of hunza. I know hunza very well I lived there for 2-3 months 🥰😉 And now that you have watched the entire documentary you MUST give me your detailed feedback. Were there any highlights for you? Any key learnings? Anything you disliked? I’m very eager to hear from a fellow wakhi friend! ♥️ Tell you what.. when you write your feedback don’t respond to this string of comments- write it separately so that others can see it too. And please do make it clear that you’re wakhi! Most of the people in the comments are non-wakhi so it would be so so wonderful to see feedback from a wakhi individual 🥰 thank you my friend !
