Pretty sure Stark and Fern are both 18. They each turned it on their respective birthday episodes. Frieren probably means Fern will be an adult in 2 years because she won't be a teenager anymore at 20. That or this world has some measure of adulthood and it starts at 20 or something, either way, both are 18. Also the "4 years" she's been with Frieren was just how long since they started their journey together, so post Heiter. They also spent the 4-5 years there before he died. 20 years after Himmel was the timestamp for her arriving at his house in episode 1.

It's really simple math with approximations that don't stray too far from exact dates. I think it's the quantity of times that "years since" get tossed about in the series, as well as all the exposition we are given that confuses people. Same with many thinking that the day Himmel died is somehow the same day as every other event, like birthdays.

Fern and Stark are both 18. But In Japan, 20 is when you have your "coming of age" ceremony (welcome to adulthood, basically) and are considered fully adult, with all the legal rights and responsibilities that go with it. Until recently, you couldn't drink until you turned 20 (it's 18 now), for example.

When he was telling Stark that Frieren won't mediate for them and she was listening in, that's when she figured out Sein was leaving. In the tavern afterwards, she made that fairly clear by wanting to hear his thoughts on the time they've had together as a group, if he had fun. This isn't the first quick goodbye, but in a way they both had a partial goodbye in the tavern, between 2 awkward geniuses.

14:49 it’s even cuter when you remember that she always used to tell Heiter “Don’t pay my head”. Add the flashback with Frieren and Heiter in ep 14 where she praises him for pretending to be an ideal adult till the day he dies by patting him on the head. God this show is so beautiful

That's something I haven't thought about Steve, that Sein will encounter Kraft! Great prediction, although I also have a feeling that Gorilla is dead now. And you were spot on, Stark is always training and helping people whenever they stop somewhere for a time. 😀

I feel SO bad for both Fern and Stark at the beginning of episode 17. It could've been a very cute moment but he just ended up scaring her by accident and then they both felt bad. It seems odd, but it's why I actually like the scene with Stark helping the women milk the cows. He immediately took what she said to heart and is being conscious of his strength, enough so to do that without accidentally hurting the cow. And it was lovely he gave them some time together while Fern was sick so she wouldn't feel as embarrassed. Stark is such a sweet kid 😭 Himmel really was that guy lol I love Lawine and Kanne, they're a great addition. Ah they're going by age 20 for adult age in this, it's the legal age in Japan so I assume that's why it was written into the show as that. Fern is 18 now as of her last birthday. It should be about 9 years total that Frieren has been with Fern. She went looking for Heiter 20 years after Himmel's death, and I think it's now 29 years post his death at this point. Very excited for y'all's reaction to this arc!
