nice one! your videos are inspirational. That’s not to say I would ever attempt such an enormous project as you are so skillfully doing, but I have been inspired enough to carry out a full service on my xl1000 thanks to you. Always look forward to watching your videos. Cheers 🙌👌

Thanks Graeme, glad you enjoy them, every video is delving into the unknown and learning, i hope to inspire more people to grab a manual and have a go, or even buy a small project bike to work on and practice, this job was quite daunting to start with, but saves me £ on labour, i have learnt alot on this so far

Hi Keith, looking at the scraping marks on the crankcase caused by the camchain flapping about. You were really lucky it didn't jump at least one tooth on the cam and wreck the top end of the front cylinder, or the engine.

I cant add anything to this video because you have pretty much covered it all so far but for me a cannot see the timing chain marking that far below the crank under running conditions to me it makes no sense imagine the amount of stretch needed but thats just my opinion but i would make sure BUT all of a sudden i can see light at the end of the tunnel for you and as ive mentioned another 200,000 or more on this bike , Great video a huge thanks for sharing with us , Regards From Dublin :-)

@@TheAmateurBikeBuilder so there ya go here is to the next 200,000 , Just gonna add on thing even if the timing chain guides collapsed i still couldnt see the amount of play needed for the chain the reach where the marks are, but there sure as hell would be nasty marks on the barrels as far as i can see alloy around the bottom of the crank surely that would also have marks onj it , maybe worth a check because if the chain marked anywhere it would be on that alloy .. Sorry for so much chat but its makes sense to me , maybe im wrong and if i am please someone correct me .. Cheers Keith

@@vlf126 i am checking as much as i can, i see your point, maybe the marks were connected or maybe not, i have not found any other damage anywhere, so bit of a head scratcher,
