"Girls don't always sing about guys " yes exactly I hate it when some people do music reactions and try so hard to match every song to a certain guy or a certain phase in a relationship when it's not about that at all. ofc people can interpret the lyrics in a way that can relate to their own life and her lyrics is usually purposefully vague enough for people to do that but also specific enough to know what exactly she's talking about. but common people are more than the relationships they've been in and it's not the only thing that goes on in a songwriters head.
@AnthonyAikenJr4 жыл бұрын
Exactly!! Also, a lot of artist use “love” as a metaphor for something else. It’s not always a relationship with a significant other like you said. It could be about their vices, their family, their careers... etc.

In Peace, the line that goes “All these people think love’s for show but I would die for you in secret” you questioned is it heroic if it’s hidden. I LOVE this reaction. Someone who doesn’t know a lot about Taylor but going into it with an open mind. Most importantly, you paid attention to what you were reacting to and gave actual insight to your thoughts about it. Lyrics are a huge part of Taylor’s songs so doing that is important! Also, your editing is fire and so unique ! It really fills in gaps of silence while you’re listening to the song but still entertains the viewer. Love it. And good job picking up on her references to scars and movies. In most of her albums she will have an overall motif or theme she likes to touch on throughout so you’ll notice repeated phrase throughout each album. Sometimes its a time of day, or a feeling, or some other description or phrase she’ll play with in different ways!

The editing is killing me haha BTW My tears ricochet is about her old label, yes, but it is actually about Scott Brauchetta (I never know how to spell is last name and I will not bother looking it up). Scott signed Taylor when she was 14 to his BRAND NEW record label, she was his biggest act, earned him millions, he was like a father to her, his wife was a close friend as well and he ended up selling her masters to Scooter, the guy who tried to destroy her career on multiple occasions. She even told Scott she would give him all her money for her masters but he refused and proceeded to "blackmail" Taylor with her own work (he refused to let her have her old songs in her recorded concert, almost prohibited her from performing her old songs when she was named artist of the decade etc.). It is really sad, he was family to her and she was just money to him.

I think Illicit Affairs sums up how it feels to be in an affair with someone (most likely an older man from a younger girl's perspective). Where you're in love with them and you're initially riding that high of secret meetings and feeling valued - and then over time you realise that this isn't the 'whirlwind love story' that you painted it out to be ('what started in beautiful rooms, ends with meeting in parking lots'). And that over time it's become degrading (to the point where you've essentially erased yourself and your own morals, respect, beliefs etc, for this love) when you realise that he'll never leave his 'wife' for you. It has one of my FAVOURITE bridges too - 'Don't call me kid, don't call me baby, look at this idiotic fool that you've made me. You taught me a secret language I can't speak with anyone else.' Again, going back to the idea of an older man and younger woman dynamic (like a teacher dating a student), you can see where the idea of a power dynamic comes into play ie. calling her 'kid' and 'baby' to try to explain himself. Also the concept of love/relationships being like a 'secret language' that you build with someone - having inside jokes, memories, nicknames... all that stuff that you can never replicate with anyone else, no matter how much you try, that is ingrained and personal between only the two of you. LOL SORRY ABOUT THIS ESSAY. YA GIRL'S GOING OFF😂😂 I just really love this song/album and it's just so LAYERED AND INTRICATE. Also really enjoyed your reaction and it made me laugh a lot. Also. One other thing, in "The 1" when she talks about "the roaring 20s." It hits two themes at once. The crazy, wild, partying aspect of the 1920s, but ALSO... she spent all of her 20s, the breadth of her career, with Big Machine Records and Scott Borchetta. The one she wishes could have been the one she continued her adventures with, if he wouldn't have screwed up so badly by not letting her buy the rights to her own music. I listened to Hoax so many times because I wasn’t really sure who she was talking about at first, but I think it’s about Scott Bruchetta who she worked with since she was around fourteen years old. For the line “your love is the only hoax I believe in,” she is talking about how she saw him as another father figure, and then he destroyed it after more than a decade of working together. Also, when she sings “you know it still hurts underneath these scars from when they pulled me apart but what you did was just as dark,” I think she is referencing to the fact that he stood by her side to give her support when the public tore down her reputation, but then he turns around, doesn’t sell her back her masters, and then sells her songs to someone (Scooter) who does not respect her on any level. Also, I loved your review, and your freestyle in seven!!

my read on illicit affairs is she’s the other woman and she’s heading to meet him again but it’s become really sad and degrading after so many times...having to leave her perfume behind so she leaves no trace...she’s erased, like she’s not a human being who lives and has her own desires and inherent worth. my favorite parts are the variations on the chorus; illicit affairs are born from one single glance but dies one million times, tells the truth just once but lies a million little times. poetry. i appreciated your thoughtful listen to each track and your editing really adds a lot. would watch additional taylor reaction videos too ☺️

Mad Woman's lines about "women like hunting witches too" and "doing your dirtiest work for you" definitely sounds like something that could've been about Scooter Braun. Scooter Braun is the manager for several big artists (ex Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande) and it seems she's had major issues with him. Last year, he bought her old label, and with that purchase, he also gained ownership of the master recordings to her first 6 albums, which she was very uncomfortable with because she doesn't trust him one bit. There were also issues with the original owner of her label (Scott Borchetta) who she had a longstanding professional relationship with and felt betrayed by when he didn't give her a chance to buy those master recordings and sold them to Scooter instead. I think My Tears Ricochet might be a bit more about Scott Borchetta and Mad Woman might be more about Scooter Braun. Anyways, she posted about the issues she was having with those two on social media, and instead of defending himself, it seems Scooter was getting others to do that "dirty work" for him. Like his wife made a long post that basically felt like she was trying to paint Taylor as crazy. Justin Bieber also made a post but there was evidence that someone else wrote the post for him (Scooter being the obvious suspect). Taylor was also close with Karlie Kloss, who was a client of Scooter Braun, and it seems like there might've been a betrayal there. Perez Hilton claimed that Taylor and Karlie Kloss weren't friends anymore because Karlie leaked personal information about Taylor to Scooter, and two of Taylor's closest friends gave a like to that Perez Hilton tweet.

With the “women like hunting witches, too” line, I thought of Kim KW, because of the debacle she started with Taylor. I LOVE your analysis to mirrorball!!! That's also what I thought after a few listens to it. At first I thought it was about a person trying everything to get the person they like to like them back. But it could also be about her and her music and her fans / those who listen to her. Love it!

Loved your discussion of Epiphany I'm so glad you noticed all the pieces of it, most people don't right away! The connection between fighting a battle (I think it's supposed to be her grandfather who was at Normandy on D-day) and COVID and how sometimes the worst experiences are ones you can't ever put into words or talk through, just hoping for an Epiphany that tells you you've made it through and it's getting better. And the heartbeat/hospital monitor sounds at the end - that makes me tear up every time. That song of all of them will always bring me right back to this summer. It's brilliant storytelling from Taylor

“You know the greatest films of all time were never made” to me means all the real live love stories that are happening out in the world that don’t get put on film for others to see are the best stories. Such a beautiful thought, to think reality is even better than what happens in the movies. Wonderful reaction and editing! You really put a lot of thought into the lyrics and the video you create and it shows!

You should definitely see the folklore long pond studio sessions, it’s beautiful! She also explains every song before playing it with Aaron Dessner and Jack Antanoff! It’s beautiful. Also, the first verse of ‘epiphany’ is about her grandfather who fought in world war 2 and he never spoke about what happened there. She’s describing that kind of unspeakable pain, the kind that the doctors are experiencing at the moment due to the whole pandemic situation. The exhaustion, the anxiety, the helplessness they feel when they lose their patients, working day and night while staying away from their loved ones! They only have 20 mins to take it all in before it all starts again. Loved how much thought she put into this whole album! BTW Absolutely loved your reaction, great job! ✨✨

@@AnthonyAikenJr Since you seem to enjoy songwriting, Red is often praised as one of her best albums, you can also check out Speak Now (Its entirely self-written by her). Lover is also a very good album which you should definitely check out. As far as favorites go I dabble between Lover and Folklore (preference for a particular album mostly depends on my mood). :)

I really enjoyed that reaction. You put a lot of work into all the relevant editing, very cool. The lyrical analysis was very good. This project really shows off her singer-songwriting skills. It's been labeled Alternative, but its gonna debut at number 1 on the charts and I think its sold over 2 million units already. Rolling Stone magazine put Taylor on the list of the 100 greatest songwriters of all-time, so I'm happy to see her getting some love on this channel.

cardigan is betty's pov august is the third party's pov betty is james' pov it's the love triangle taylor mentioned that are connected but fans also have theories that the whole album is about these 3 characters and taylor's own life 💓 hope that helps! love your reaction as always and so glad you reacted to folklore!

Thank you!!! That helps a whole lot! What about the friend on “seven”. Is that connected to the rest?
@supriyasharma26534 жыл бұрын
@@AnthonyAikenJr no no seven is a memory of her childhood friend who she can't remember, but still remembers and loves their friendship. Her friend was probably in an abusive house and that's what the song is about. Fans do have theories that could connect the song with the storylines as Betty's childhood instead of Taylor's, but we'll never know I think
@janna0234 жыл бұрын
@@AnthonyAikenJr ^^^ yeah! most fans think "seven" is about her childhood friend but if you would align it to the story, personally I think it is about betty's childhood and how she and james met heh! it's a fun album to think about and create your own theory of what actually happened to their love story ;;

Since I'm a year late, I wasn't going to comment and I know nobody will probably see this but in 'betty' she mentions "She said 'James! Get in!'" so that means betty is from the perspective of James who broke Betty's heart and the girl in august (who I first thought was Inez but then I saw the folklore documentary and realized it's actually another girl, Augustine) was the one was in the car. 'august' also has a line "remember when i pulled up and said get in the car" so that part is clearly about the aforementioned line. Also, in august, there is a line "so much for summer love" and in 'betty' there's a line "it was just a summer thing" so Augustine was the girl whom James slept with but Betty was the one he liked and most probably was in a relationship with her. now to 'cardigan' references, there's obviously the entire last part Standing in your cardigan - the song itself Kissin' in my car again - "to kiss in cars and downtown bars was all we needed" Stopped at a streetlight - "Dancing in your Levi's, drunk under a streetlight" and the last connection... James showed up at Betty's doorstep... He wondered if she'll "kiss him on the porch in front of all her stupid friends" and in 'cardigan', there are lines "I knew you'd miss me once the thrill expired and you'd be standin' in my front porch light and I knew you'd come back to me" See? it's all 3 perspectives of the same story. cardigan is how Betty felt about the whole thing, betty is how James felt and august is how Augustine felt. To sum it up, James and Betty were in love but James had a summer fling with Augustine. Augustine loved him but he loved Betty and went back to her. But the best part here is, we don't know if any of them ended up together. Nobody mentioned anything about what happens after James went back to Betty. WOW this is long 😅 I hope someone reads this though, I think it's beautiful how Taylor put out all three perspectives so beautifully... how she laid out that nobody wants to be a bad person... it's mistakes and circumstances that make you feel like that.

Just subscribed! The way you actually listen to the lyrics and the editing are fantastic! In “Illicit Affairs” when she sings “and you know damn well, for you I would ruin myself a million little times” I interpret it as having an affair can destroy a lot of things like a reputation, self esteem, self worth, hence the woman would ruin herself to be with the man even if only in secret.
