This is not one of the best Carpenter's songs. There is a song that Karen sings to her husband called " A Song for You " which no one on here has reacted to before and it has very eery lyrics as Karen mentions about when she dies in the song and it is one of her very last recordings before she did die. " A Song for You" was written by Leon Russell and not by Karen or her brother Richard but it is hauntingly relevant to her life. Could you please react to " A Song for You".

@@donnajean3202 This is a great Carpenter's song. "A Song For You" was written by Leon Russell not the Carpenter's. Karen does a great version of it. The Carpenter's recorded it in the early 70's way before Karen got married so its definitely not about her husband

@FortWorthFabian - You have reacted to most of the Carpenters best songs but here are a few that you have not reacted to yet. There is " A Song for You" , "Hurting Each Other" , "A Kind of Hush", " Solitaire" and if you want to see Karen having fun on stage then check out " Jambalaya on the Bayou " live at Budokan. Karen also covers a couple of Beatle songs " Ticket to Ride " and "Please Mr. Postman". Although "Please Mr. Postman" was done by other people before the Beatles did it. One of her last songs before she died was "Touch Me When We're Dancing". There is also another version of "Superstar" where Karen is wearing a long yellow dress although I think most people like the version you already reacted to in the red dress better but you could see which version you like better. I think that would cover the entire Carpenters catalogue of really big hits including the ones you reacted to already but I may have missed a few.

Karen has an arresting voice. It's uncanny because whenever one of her songs comes on, whether it's the radio or playing in a shop in the background, I have to stop and listen to the end. Karen was something else. No one comes close to the quality of her voice. She is sorely missed.

That is such an important quality about Karen Carpenter that people don't normally mention - she was a very classy lady. You don't see that in female performers too much anymore. I do see it reflected in the deference that everyone shows her. I never see lacivious comments about her. I see the odd guy admit they had a crush on her, but there's never anything about her looks or anything like that. She was a lady and to this day, everyone still defers to her as such.

John Bettis, Karen's friend and Richard's song writing partner, said that this was her most biographical song. He also said that when she passed, his songs lost their voice. This performance exemplifies why Karen had to come out from behind her beloved drum kit! Our lovely Drummergirl

It's interesting: the final single recorded that might be considered "Carpenters" came from Richard's 1987 solo album "Time". That song, "Something In Your Eyes", with lead vocal by the great Dusty Springfield, was composed by Richard...but the lyrics are not by John Bettis. I have always wondered why that was. I did know about Bettis' remark regarding the loss of Karen...maybe that's why that song had a different lyricist...

It’s not weird what you feel, it’s what she does to everyone. You believe what she sings because she’s telling her story to you, to me, to each person in the audience. So many singers especially today sing for themselves and to impress. They can’t sing without always having to hit that high note and you can’t understand have of the words they’re singing. Her diction was so perfect, you could understand every word and you felt it.

This song was Karen's favourite of all the songs Carpenters recorded. And this is apparently a true live version. Certainly it is phrased a bit differently than the studio version. (I'm a huge Carpenters fan, have been since the seventies, and the differences are obvious from the start, since I've heard the studio version so many times...)

Then that sad day in feb 83 I was so tore up as if I knew her personally. And it hurt me more to find out more about her wanting and needing true love bcuz everyone was in control of her she was smothered and let down and never got true love. Anyway I’ll keep listening bcuz I can’t help but listen . This song reminds me of me literally. Rest in Heaven Angel 👼🏽 ❣️💔🙏🏽thank you for having some knowledge while sharing her music 🙏🏽

Richard recalled that it was the Karen Carpenters' favorite song. I Need to Be in Love" is a song written by Richard Carpenter, Albert Hammond and John Bettis. (A curiosity: John Bettis is an excellent lyricist and is one of the composers of the music Human Nature by Michal Jackson.) It was released as a single on May 21, 1976. It was featured on the album A Kind of Hush, released on June 11 of the same year.

62 this year. Karen was my first real, sold, I would do anything for crush. The day she passed I cried like nothing else in my life to that point. It's so great to see all the people today discovering her and her amazing talent. You hit the nail on the head with "she makes you listen" statement. A voice that does not reach out a grab you, but gently takes your soul and leads to exactly where she wants you to be. And all well before the days of auto tune. The good quality live videos that are out there sound as good as if not better than the studio versions. You need to put their version of Mery Christmas Darling on your list for the holidays. I send that video to all my family and fri9oends every year.
