picture it::::::: its 1994 seeing Pantera (with Type O negative) live at Nassau Coliseum for the first time and seeing the pit mosh in time to this song with the "This Love" chorus. All nice and calm when Phil is singing all nice and calm, then the chorus kicks in and its total fu@king mayhem. I'm 51 and I can still see it in my head. One of the best concerts I've ever been to, to date.

Thankfully I don’t have to picture this! I lived it at UNF arena Jacksonville Florida. Type o negative and Pantera. Top 3 of live shows I have been to over the years.

50 year old here still remembering seeing pantera on the vulgar tour. Amazing times
@KeeBnuTs11 ай бұрын
I saw that same tour in Tulsa OK. Peter Steel was still taller than me and I was in the back at that point. On the chorus for This Love a pit opened around me. I look around and I get a facefull of elbow. Guy picked me up, brushed me off, made sure I was ok, and disappeared back into the pit. I knew then that metal people were my people.

I agree with you bud. The beautiful melodic intros I really enjoy in metal as well. It has a cool way of bringing you in before they hit you with the sledgehammer. And it makes me think of what I’m pretty sure are the classical and blues influences a lot of musicians have built into them. Oh, and I was waiting and saw that face melt you had at 5:20 when he starts walking the frets. 🤣👍 I’ve mentioned this before young guitar god, power chords and palm muting. Once you figure that out, you’ll turn your amp up to 11 and have a blast learning more on your guitar and start to learn some of these riffs. Getcha pull. 🤘

Vinnie favoured deeper drums than most, the snare was usually eight inches deep by fourteen inches in diameter. The toms and bass drums were equal in depth and diameter & again, larger than what most drummers would use. Vinnie learned how to engineer drum sounds in his dad's studio as a teen and co-produced Pantera's major-label albums (he fully produced the first four albums before "Cowboys From Hell"); he knew what he wanted to get out of the drums in the studio and live. Song recommendation would be "Fucking Hostile", a right banger indeed!

Good God...how I love that song. Although it's not Dimebags wildest and craziest solos, it's one, if not the one I like the most of all his solos. I love this bluesy, laid back atmosphere, but at the same time he builds a tension and suspence during this solo... It's amazing. And I agree, Vinnie Pauls drumsound was supreme. To this day... And if you like to hear more of Phils softer vocals, check out the New Orleans supergroup Down.
@Madman650511 ай бұрын
Agree about the solo. It just shows you that the ability to rip isn't enough, as demonstrated by legions of technical KZbin guitarists that no one really cares about. Dime was into heart and soul too, and you can hear that in every note.
@OliOllsen11 ай бұрын
@@Madman6505 true... that's so true. There are a lot of very skilled guitarists out there, that can shred the shit out of their instruments, but 97% of them just don't make me feel it like, for example, a simple Type 0 Negative solo played by Kenny Hickey, which contains just 5 notes, but is perfomed with so much heart and soul, you just feel each single note. And Dimebag was one of this 3%. He could shred AND made you feel it.

I love that you appreciate Pantera this much! In another universe, Pantera is what Van Halen would have become if VH came up in the 80s instead of the 70s. An innovative savant on guitar, and his brother, an absolute monster, in the drums. An underrated bass player and a singer with unexpected swagger and showmanship... the parallels are obvious. There's also the fact that Dime is buried with Eddie's '79 "bumblebee" guitar. Eddie said Dimebad is an original and deserves to be buried with an original. He's also buried with a shit load of Crown Royal, and he's buried in a KISS coffin. So. Legend.
