Here's another Rush song for you guys. I'm sorry it's taken me 11 days to post another Rush reaction. I just didn't want people complaining that I am posting too many reactions of the same band. Although, I'm enjoying Rush, so it doesn't matter what people think. We have listened to Tom Sawyer and The Spirit Of Radio so far, now we've got YYZ.
Here is my first reaction to Rush - YYZ. I hope you enjoy it!

I love that version! I have seen a lot of bands live, but Rush was on a whole different level. No opening act. A 3-hour show with an intermission in the middle. And damn, they were note-for-note perfect. I feel blessed to have been able to see them what few times I did. I really miss this band.

YYZ is the airport code for Toronto's airport which was Home for Rush, and they would say zed. The repetitive rhythm at the start of the song is morse code for YYZ It is Y-Y-Z not yyz that was a joke at the end about people saying what is yyz. That was Alex and Geddy talking in the end.

In Canada we pronounce it YYZED like you do in Britain. That was Geddy and Alex at the end jokingly calling it Yez. Alex Lifeson the guitarist is also a licensed pilot and was flying them back to Toronto when Geddy ad Neil heard the indicator code for YYZ (Toronto International Airport) and it stuck with them. The first part of the song is YYZ in morse code. La Villa Strangiato is an incredible instrumental by them. It is based on a series of nightmares that Alex Lifeson had especially when they were on tour. Please react to the Official music video. 2112 is another masterpiece. I would suggest watching the comic book version to get the whole storyline. Working Man LIVE IN CLEVELAND will blow your socks off! I just turned 70 this year and yes I ageee our generation had the best music and were spoiled for choice. I love seeing you getting excited over my favourite band. ❤ Cheers

Everything Debbieplato5107 said above is right on the money. I wish I paid more attention to Rush growing up in the 70's and 80's, but at least I, like you am getting to finally rediscover them now. It sucks Neil is no longer with us so I'll never get to see them in concert so I'll just have to settle for playing their albums on my old Pioneer SX780 through some big old speakers that I can feel in my gut. Just an incredibly talented group whose music will live on well after we're gone as some of the best ever.

@HEELMACHINE L take. Prog Music is great. it's awesome. But lot of of rap is great and very catchy even if it's cheap to produce. All genres has its greats and terrible music. Even prog has some crap. I listen everything. Metal, Punk, Rock, Rap, Trance, Pop, and Worship. It's not hard to find something objectively good even if you don't like it.
@HEELMACHINE
@HEELMACHINE 3 ай бұрын
@@doublewhat07 Rap has its place in music but not as popular as it is….. I don’t think the popularity of it is organic…… rather socially engineered. Music industry doesn’t make money selling albums anymore due to free internet. Fact is music acts are not as great as in the past because more money is made from samples and computer generated music. I learned that from a producer “Rick Beato” that has his own channel. Not as many people involved in the recording process. I’m not that much of a prog fan as much of it is too mechanical sounding but Rush does it right.

@@HEELMACHINE This has nothing to do with Rap or hip-hop though. There's some amazing stuff out there in every genre. I also think that people sweep a LOT Of shit music from the 70's and 80's under the rug because it's not as popular these days. There's always more bad music than good.

I saw this tour in Las Vegas a couple of months before they went down to Brazil for the first time ever and recorded the whole concert on DVD. Rush delivers a great sounding show every time. The 2 security guys chatting at the end are actually Geddy and Alex.. Their nicknames for each other are "Dirk" (Geddy) and "Lerxst" (Alex), Neil was "Pratt" If you think this was a good instrumental check out La Villa Strangiato especially the remastered and remixed version by Stickhits here on KZbin 👍👍👍👍👍👍 Yes we were lucky to experience these back in the day... It’s pronounced “Y-Y-Zed.” The “Yizz” thing at the end was Rush taking the piss. They are always joking around. Also ~ yes, I did grow up in the best music era. Thank you for recognizing that. The bad news? I got a $200 speeding ticket while listening to this song back in the 80’s. I saw them perform live so many times I lost count. Also, if you really like Neil’s drumming and you really want to see and hear it in it’s glory, look up “NEIL PEART DRUM SOLO - RUSH LIVE IN FRANKFURT.” Here’s a list of some my favorite (mostly) deeper-cut songs that I know you would love: 1973 What You're Doing 1974 Anthem Beneath, Between And Behind 1975 Bastille Day I Think I'm Going Bald 1976 2112 (warning - it’s 20 minutes long… and worth every second) 1978 La Villa Strangiato 1980 Natural Science 1981 Red Barchetta Vital Signs 1982 The Analog Kid 1989 The Pass

I first saw Rush at The Glasgow Apollo in 1978; they blew my mind then. And they still do every single time I hear them. I recently walked into a shop east Fife, Scotland, to the strains of a live version of Xanadu. I immediately exchanged Rush pleasantries with the shop owner before going with my friend to start buying local produce. Before I could get back to the counter? ‘Damn,’ I thought initially. The door opened and a bustle of excited primary school children came in with their teacher. Andy, for he was the proprietor, announced ‘hey kids!’ ‘What’s the most important day in December then?’ Of course I expected them to holler ‘Christmas!!!’ No, they all responded in unison ‘2112, Andy!!!’ Hell, my jaw dropped and I have rarely been closer to tears of joy in my entire life. A whole generation of Scottish kids are now growing up listening to Rush. Because of one band, and one man. Hats off, Andy, wherever you are now.

As I drove over the Canadian border at Niagara in I think 2002, having been to see Yes play in Philadelphia the night before? The Toronto Tower hoved into view in the distance. What came on the local radio station? Yup. YYZ! The sun was shining. I was with incredible friends. And we rocked!

You are spot on. Growing up with this era music was amazing. I saw them live for the first time in 1985 and 5 more times after that. Nothing better than Rush live in concert.

As a Boomer, I can say we had great music because we were forced, through Radio and Variety Shows to listen to ALL genres. Younger generations don't have easy access to music that is different, or unfamiliar.

Yes, Rush, Emerson Lake and Palmer, Electric Light Orchestra, so many others...you've already hit a ton of Pink Floyd which was awesome...some say they are the greatest prog band ever...

There is so much to love about Rush: their willingness to evolve over time, the deep lyrics mostly written by Neil Peart, their sense of humor expressed in their stage sets, Geddy Lee's unique voice. But most of all, the fact that they were three virtuosos on their respective instruments who together formed a synergy that always inspires the reaction "I can't believe there are only three guys in this band". For that reason, I really think they are at their best during instrumental pieces and sections of songs (though I do love Neil's lyrics, and I can't imagine life without them). We are so lucky that these three monster musicians were so humble that they could stay together for 40 years and give us so much of their talented music. My only reaction these days is "thank you Rush."

One of the all time best bass guitar lines in rock and roll history, no joke. Rock bassists try to play this as a test. Most can’t.

I was 16 when I first saw them in 1979. And 38 times after that. But I guarantee you hearing this for the first time in my late teens, had us all screaming and high fiving each other. We skipped classes the day Moving Pictures was released. We all went to my friend’s house, got high and absolutely went crazy. Hearing those songs after being fans for years was next keel for even us. We were used to their skill but Moving Pictures was in another category. Then seeing that tour live 3 times, and seeing them play these songs to perfection was an experience beyond comprehension. There will never be another trio where each member is better than the next, and playing their instruments with no artificial technology being used. This band is in matched in arrangements, concepts, lyrics, skill, and sound.

Rush is a legendary Progressive Rock formed in 1969. Along with the Prog Rock band, Yes, are the pioneers of Progressive Rock. The bassist/keyboardist Geddy was mentored by Jon Anderson of Yes. Great reaction. Welcome to progressive rock which influenced Heavy metal, Grunge, and Alternative rock. Welcome!

I and many others here have been listening to this music for 50+ years. We also had to buy albums which we wore the grooves out of. Then cassettes, 8 tracks and more. You are so very lucky that you have discovered this genre. You can listen to ALL the songs the rest of your life on KZbin and elsewhere. Now, we did have the advantage of seeing many of these bands live.

GREAT reaction MollyBoy!! Here in Canada, we used the Queen's English, so it's Y-Y-Zed!! And that beginning you love so much, is the morse code for YYZ! It's a rhythm that Neil Peart (RIP) heard from the plane's cockpit as they were arriving in Toronto's Pearson Airport (it's the airport code) - he liked the rhythm - they made a song around it! This video was done to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Moving Pictures - and the two guys at the end are Geddy and Alex (bass & guitarist) joking about the song...so no, it is called Y-Y-Z(ed). As others have mentioned - you must check the Live in Rio version - it's off the chain! Cheers from Canada eh!

hahaha< you had it right the second time "why why zed" The yizz at the end was a joke on how people first tried to pronounce the title. Not sure if you want to revisit any of these buy YYZ live in Rio and Working Man live in Cleveland are exceptional. I think Fly By Night or Anthem would be an awesome addition to your reaction list, keep up the great reactions.
