I feel like this first album was a shot across the bow that said, "Hi, we're here to change things.", and this one was like "No, we really mean it." One of the blueprints for rock for the decades to come.

It definitely was something we hadn't heard before, it was a complete change from where music was at that time, and we loved it, even more so because our parents hated it...too loud, too much sex, drugs and they couldn't understand the change that had started in music and around the world...Rock ON!!!

John Bonham is considered one of the greatest drummers in rock history. Pay attention to his fills and his time counts, he was doing things then that were normal for him yet some of todays drummer strive to emulate. While they were on tour, Plant and Page would hide Bonhams 2nd kick drum from him because he played better without it. Every drummer you hear today has Bonham in their influences.

When I first discovered Led Zeppelin in the 70's I did the exact same thing you did running parts back except it was on the turntable of my folks stereo system because I couldn't believe they were that crazy good. I can definitely take the Jack Black challenge and listen to all of Zeppelin's albums back to back in one setting no problem. Congratulations on your impending fatherhood.

You mention Zep's music for everyone, guy's AND girls, so true. Robert Plant's singing was so sensual, or sexual, the ladies absolutely were taken in by him, part of it was the bare chested, blonde hair flowing with the bulge in his jeans, but almost every song sounds like he was making love to women. The guy's were in love with Page's searing guitar licks and incredible chords, Bonzo's rhythmic drumming, which also was pioneering in it's own rite and JPJ's steady, often under appreciated bass and keyboards. By this album Zeppelin had become the successor to the Beatles who would soon break up

The reaction to the 'outro' of What is & what should never be is priceless ~ He just had to listen to it 2nd time. I personally consider that particular phase of that track, to be one of the most overlooked recording sequences in the entire Zepp' canon (left to right phasing of Jimmy's power chords either through 'can's' or loudspeakers) & this recording is well over Half a Century old !!!
