lmao. Funny enough im a drummer and ive been working on my foot work a lot. Going through a lot of socks, as in they become totally unwearable due to the holes im putting in them after 3 or 4 good practices. My feet are just a lil too ticklish to be barefoot and socks are too slippery so im basically just grinding my socks against the insides of my shoes.

Most of it is still 4/4 though, it's just polymetres, playing a riff or phrase that either comes short just a bit or goes over the bar line just a bit and then repeating it a few times allowing it to flow over the 4/4 base before cutting it short to make it line up in a more concievable way (that's what they do usually)

@Fenixsweden
@Fenixsweden 6 жыл бұрын
My love for meshugga is the fact that the artists have an huge amount of flow between themselves when they play although they dont all share the same beat, get my drift? and despite the fact that many of the songs have different beats between instruments it all makes sense. and that is nothing short of AWESOME! :D

I can personally attest to the difficulty in playing this song on the drums. not only are you dealing with poly rhythms, but with utter concentration and insane coordination, dexterity and endurance. Thomas Haake is in a league of his own. Metal drummers are already supremely talented, but this dude from Sweden is something else. A gift from the halls of Valhalla. None can compare.

This song is one of the hardest song for a drummer to play cuz each limb is playing in different tempo so pretty much playing 4 different songs at the same time
@Halo23874
@Halo23874 6 жыл бұрын
It's not the tempo, it's the time signature of the song, the tempo is the speed of the song while the time signature consists of how many beats there are in a measure. Smh

Aaaaaand, that's not true. Get your polyrhythms vs. polymeters straight. This song is hard for the drummers particularly because of the hertha double bass pattern which is reaaaally exhausting in these tempos.
@sambrightman1152
@sambrightman1152 6 жыл бұрын
It's not the time signature. The time signature is just 4/4. It's the fact he's playing a Herta pattern on the feet is hard enough on it's own, and then the co-ordination of doing that whilst having hands playing is incredibly hard.

Tomas Haake is an absolute beast. The double bass in Bleed is super technical and difficult. For more insane drumming, check out his drum playthrough for the song Clockworks. Also, I think you are ready for Animals As Leaders - CAFO. AAL's drummer Matt Garstka is one of the best out there and Tosin Abasi is an unbelievable guitar player.

Choosing a drumcam for a first meshuggah video was a great choice. Meshuggah is sum of more than its parts but Thomas on drums will always be the heart of that machine. It's like you said, he makes it sound like that there are at least 2 or 3 drummers doing all that. But it's also bass and guitar playing those rhytms from bass drums that makes it sound so heavy. It's very peculiar sound.

You gotta know about their lighting, it's perfectly in time with the drumming. You know why? Because the guy on lights is Edvard Hansen (I think I spelled it right), he does the lights live in time with the drumming, there's a fantastic video from 2012 where it shows him literally "playing" the lights. It's crazy how tight and in time he is with Tomas. It's so fucking cool. If you can find an audience perspective video of their song "The Violent Sleep of Reason", the lighting, on top of the amazing music, is just fascinating to watch. Much love!

this song is so dense. if you just watch Haake's hands, you may think it's all basic 1234 stuff. but underlying that simplicity is a ton of patterns. there are many groups of smaller patterns throughout the songs, very distinct stuff. hard to hear if you aren't used to this style of music. the main double bass one is easy to hear, but there are patterns where they do 3 groups, then 2, then 1, then 2, then 3, etc. things like that - and the guitars are doing it too with the kick drums. so while 1234 is happening so we can bob our heads, there is CRAZY stuff happening all over the place to make this an insane song, aside from just the stamina needed to play it! so while he's not doing the typical "flashy drummer" stuff to appear good, there is a lot going on, layers among layers that are just crazy! i'm so glad you enjoyed this and recognized some of what's going on! there's many who would hear this and immediately say "it's just screaming." there is so much juxtaposition with the growling vocals and the amazing lyrics... pure emotion exactly as you said.

@NochSonKerl
@NochSonKerl 6 жыл бұрын
well then you have endless blastbeats (which I admit are also not that easy to play, especially at that tempo), but not its not a very complex rhythm like in this song or other Meshuggah and (for example) Tool songs.
@Darkey23
@Darkey23 6 жыл бұрын
Fleshgod's drumming isn't even that impressive. It's quite literally ONE thing - fast, unrelentless blastbeats. And those are a fucking cakewalk once you mastered the technique. Compare that to constantly playing polyrhythms and complex time signatures. No, not really.
@corylove6636
@corylove6636 6 жыл бұрын
The drummer only had 3 or 4 years of drumming under his belt when the album came out. That alone is impressive. Yes, it's not complex but not every song needs to be complex. I listen to Tesseract, Dillenger, and Leprous If I want to hear complex. Being able to play "unrelentless blastbeats" for that length is impressive and the it sounds really clear and clean.
@corylove6636
@corylove6636 6 жыл бұрын
I never said complex... I just said unbelievable drumming due to the speed that it sounds clean. Unbelievable can mean a lot of things. Yes, Meshuggah, Tool, Tesseract, Dillenger, leprous, Frost(the drummer), Dream Theater and such are more complex than Francesco.
