You said something very real,. and this is from an old metal head (62 this year). I was into Sabbath from the beginning,. then Priest,. Maiden,. etc. I also had my own pirate metal station since 1987 and have been a hard rock / metal musician all of my life. On my station we played all of the great early metal bands and in the end years of my FM broadcast were the years of the 'core' and nu metal genre's, etc,. but mostly I am familiar with the very beginning to the nu metal / core bands started appearing with my most favorite genre being death metal. So I do have a little history behind me with the birth of metal to more current stuff. You mentioned how you feel Priest is the 'meat and potatoes' of the metal movement,. and I couldn't agree more. You see,. I see Sabbath as the Godfathers of metal,.. but more in the Hard Rock genre. If ANYTHING early Sabbath would be considered doom metal today. But IMO,. the first true metal band ever,. was Judas Priest. Of course there were some early punk that fueled the metal flames also,. but JP is the one I would classify as the first true metal band. Their 'Sad Wings of Destiny' album being the first true metal album. Love me some Slayer,. with Sabbath my most beloved,. some Lamb of God,. and hundreds more. Check out a band called 4arm too if you get a chance! I do believe YOU would dig it. Been binge watching your channel all night. Sun's coming up,. dammit,.
@DragonTigerBoss
@DragonTigerBoss 3 жыл бұрын
Aside from being half your age, I agree 100%. Priest were the first metal band, Sabbath would be classified as doom metal now. Priest, I think, adapted to the times more than most. Even when they got cheesy.

The drummer plays his drums stick hand end, so tip end he holds on to. (my daughter scored one of his drum sticks at the concert we went too) 3. Did you know that Rob Halford is Gay which is totally fine he awesome love him!

2:50 "I fell like this is what metal's supposed to sound like.". They're called the Metal Gods for a reason. Together with Black Sabbath, both from Brimingham England, Judas Priest helped shape the sound and look of metal (leather, denim and spikes). As for the generes or sub-generes of metal ... That's complicated, dude!! XD To my ears, Judas Priest is classic heavy metal ... Or simply heavy metal. "Painkiller" and the previous record "Ram it Down" have a lot of elements from what we call speed metal, which incidentally Judas Priest helped to develop. As for a "thrash" metal sound, I'd say it's because of the global dominion that thrash metal had over the metal world; band like Slayer, Megadeth, Metallica, Sepultura, Kreator, Anthrax ... The 80's for hardcore heavy metal, was thrash, so maybe Judas Priest took a bit of an influence on "Painkiller". But personally for me, this is a speed metal record. Glad you liked it. Cheers, dude.

Black sabbath was more or less about the music. Ozzy was the only one who wore funky clothing, black sabbath didnt dawn any particular look until after ozzy was kicked out of the band and they needed a new gimmick, which is why we havent seen Tony Iommi without a black slicker in 25 years. Black sabbath introduced me to metal, Iron man was the first metal song i remember hearing and it literally changed my life, no disrespect to any of the original metal gods.

Judas Priest, along with Iron Maiden, Diamond Head, Motörhead, and many others, are bands that were part of a music movement from the U.K in the late 70s called New Wave of British Heavy Metal or NWOBHM. They directly influenced bands like Metallica, Megadeth, and Slayer which then led to the rise of thrash metal. So thrash basically has its roots in NWOBHM.

That's my boy on the drums Scott Travis..YEAHHHH!! I used to do stagework in Virginia Beach, Va..And area. Scott is the only American in the band, while the others are British. Painkiller was the first Priest album that Scott made his Judas Priest debut. Rob Halford left after that and was gone for 12 years. I got to know Scott and it was Scott that surprised me with the first news of Rob coming back before the world knew. Scott also told me the name of the reunion album "Angel Of Retribution" before he even left for England to join the band in laying down his tracks. It took a looooooong ass time to finally release the album. Before the album was fully completed, the band wound up on tour with OZZFEST for about a year. When they completed that tour, went back to actually finish the album and THEN...went on a WORLD TOUR OF THEIR OWN. Two friends and I drove THREE FREAKEN HOURS to go see my boy Scott and band play. They had QUEENSRYCHE open....Whew!! I caught up with Scott after they were done with their world tour and told him we were there. Hey, got to support my boy. P.s. I once asked Scott which past Judas Priest drummer he preferred and he said "Les Binks is my favorite!"
