@@fazejelly9231 there's no part of this song that was about Chris. It's about his battle with depression and his disenfranchisement with modern religion. And I don't know what an ICC is either. You might mean LLC's. If you want people to believe you know anything about the band, you may want to learn how to spell their names properly also. And another thing... Fehn left THIS year.. Out of the night that covers me, Black as the Pit from pole to pole, I thank whatever science that be For my unconquerable personality. In the fell clutch of naturalism I have not winced nor cried aloud. Under the bludgeonings of theism My head is bloody, but unbowed. Beyond this place of wrath and tears Looms but the Horror of the shade, And yet the menace of the years Finds, and shall find, me unafraid. It matters not how strait the gate, How charged with punishments the scroll. I am the master of my fate: I am the captain of my role. William Ernest Henley - Invictus (Edited: A single Agnostic-atheists' version) I would rather die standing than live on my knees! - Zapata I will never kill myself to save my soul. Good without god or government/ I don't need the threat of a reward or the promise of a punishment in order to be good. S O C I A L N E U R O S C I E N C E Specific neurons and neurotransmitters, such as norepinephrine, trigger a defensive state when we feel that our thoughts have to be protected from the influence of others. If we are then confronted with differences in opinion, the chemicals that are released in the brain are the same ones that try to ensure our survival in dangerous situations. In this defensive state, the more primitive part of the brain interferes with rational thinking and the limbic system can knock out most of our working memory, physically causing narrowmindedness. Myopic, cannot see straight!!! 2 We see this in the politics of fear, in the strategy of poker players, or simply when someone is stubborn in a discussion. No matter how valuable an idea is, the brain has trouble processing it when it is in such a state. 3 On a neural level, it reacts as if we're being threatened, even if this threat comes from harmless opinions or facts that we may otherwise find helpful and could rationally agree with. Dystopic, one sin too late!!! 4 But when we express ourselves and our views are appreciated, these "defense chemicals" decrease in the brain and dopamine neurotransmission activates the reward neurons, making us feel empowered and increasing our self-esteem. Our beliefs have a profound impact on our body chemistry, this is why placebos are so effective. You gotta lie if you wanna believe pla·ce·bo /pləˈsēbō/ noun a measure designed merely to calm or please someone. But your buybulls don't work on me! You've killed the saint in me. The old lady is the religions leader trying to lure Corey into her religion. If you notice when she hugs him she has a sinister smile when Corey can't see her. She thinks she has him, but he knows, it's easier to lure bees with honey than it is with vinegar. Lure is bait and that is manipulation. Corey burns his own statue at the end though because he believes nothing should worshiped, not even himself.

Depression... Depression has a funny side to it. It has the dark patch of course. But after a while, it can be one of the most comforting places to be. It's a specific emotion, and it's not something easily put into words, especially if the listener hasn't truly felt the deepest extents of it. But for those of us that have, we can instantly recognize it. And that's why Slipknot is so beautiful and can resonate with so many. For the same reason people watch horror movies, they want the terror, but only from a place of safety. See it and be able to walk away from it. But for those that have this looming in their heart, it's a familiar place. It's reversing the lens, having the dark as a place of safety. I believe that in this song, it might not even be a person, but a comfort he longs for but can't reach anymore.

Doubt you'll see this, but I highly recommend a Japanese metalcore band Crystal Lake and they're song 'aeon'. It's very heavy, but it would be interesting to see your take on it and you'll hopefully enjoy the changes throughout the song. (The vocals are in English so don't worry about translations) If you like it you should check out the rest of their discography, you'll see they're range and the messages behind a lot of their songs. (If it's worth anything Slipknot love these guys). Hope you guys keep making videos and continue to broaden your musical horizons!

The old lady is supposed to be his grandma, he was really close to her and she passed away last year. Not sure who the young woman is supposed to be though.

This song is meant to be radio friendly and just to throw people off about their new album which is to be as heavy as the Iowa album

85% personally loved this song how it had had a blend of soft and heavy metal and also loved the meaning of the song and how I interpreted it was Corey was speaking on how religious people try to make you believe in certain things and Corey's take Is that he'll never kill himself to see his soul meaning he won't sacrifice who he is.

Corey Taylor is one of the greatest lyricists in music. David Gilmour of Pink Floyd is the master at writing guitar riffs that make you feel every ounce of emotion. In a similar way, Corey writes lyrics that perfectly describe an emotion or feeling, and is amazing at painting a picture of how he feels. It's incredible.

Slipknot is a great band that suffered alot of setbacks but continued to rock us. If you haven't heard it yet go check out Slipknot's Devil In I. Great song and it's the band's tribute to their members they've lost.

Long post/ explanation warning: The song is about depression. Honestly slipknot's videos are largely open to interpretation. This video doubles as representative of the song and as the new mask reveals. My interpretation of the video is that the woman represents depression. At times she's beautiful and tempting. Others she's an older motherly figure. Similar to the Oedipus mother. She (depression) fosters an environment of dependency and reliance on her. Simultaneously coddling and tempting you to never leave (escape depression). She (depression) made a martyr of cory as a way to keep him from escaping. "It's not your fault, you're the victim, I'll make it better" it's a classic Oedipus complex tactic. Make them the martyr and then present yourself as the only option to ensure they never leave. But in the song cory sings about holding on to letting go. Just like someone trying to break away from their Oedipus parent (most often the mother), the parent knows their influence is slipping and starts ramping up the guilt and 'consequences' in an attempt to make them stay. People who break out of it often talk about struggling to maintain their determination (holding on to letting go). Personally I don't know if I'm right. But it makes total sense to me and if it is right then it's some incredibly deep, genius work.

I love how metal is the stereotypical "crazy-ass no meaning" genre, yet a lot of them are fairly poetic. Then we have rap.
