Dr. Gross did my hip resurfacing April 2023, I could not have asked for a better doctor or procedure. I am back to playing ice hockey only 6 months after the surgery and going strong @ 53. No limitations at all. Highly recommend the surgery and Dr. Gross.

I'm a 5'3", small-boned female with osteopenia - 3 "no-no's" for hip resurfacing. Every hip ortho on the planet turned me down, with the exception of Dr. DeSmet in Belgium and Dr. Gross in SC. I'm really active; I do yoga, pilates and workouts that depend on flexibility and I knew I didn't want a replacement. Dr. Gross didn't even bat an eye at my case. He said, "Come on down; I know I can help you." I had my hip resurfaced with him in 2016 and I had a pretty perfect outcome. I think he said he used the smallest hip cup size he has on me. He also has a recovery program for low-bone density so that petite females can have this procedure. If this is you, he's the only one in the States to trust. I was back to yoga and pilates in 9 months (I probably could've gone back faster, but I was conservative during recovery just to be safe), I continue to be pain-free, and my hip feels about 98% like a normal hip. Dr. Gross is the best.

thankyou for the video, that was very informative. I am a 43yo male who is into judo and brazilian jiu jitsu. I'm booked in for a hip resurfacing next month due to fairly advanced hip arthritis. I chose the procedure exactly because I'm hoping it will allow me to return to my sports once i'm recovered.

The videos on hip replacement indicate that the high-density cross-linked polyethylene acetabular cup liner with a ceramic ball moving within it wears very little compared to older procedures using metal-to-metal contact. This video says there will be metal-to-metal wear with hip resurfacing implants. Other videos mention that very old procedures used metal-to-metal movement and caused severe complications, namely metallosis.

How are we dealing with metal debris which used to plague older metal on metal prosthesis?
@TrueZgrzyt11 ай бұрын
Thank you for your video. I had my hip resurfaced in Norway in 2009, 14 years ago. I had to withstand cosmic pains until then. I consciously choose BHR over the Total Replacement, because its costruction is more natural, stable and bone saving. I have almost normal range of motion. But they have stoped to operate BHR about 12 years ago. They say, the main reason is the metal ions produced by friction of metal to metal prostetic. They are afraid of causing canser... I am afraid it will not come back...

So nobody is currently offering resurfacing in here in Norway?
@TrueZgrzyt7 ай бұрын
@@maristamn Nei, så vidt jeg vet, sluttet de med denne protesen 1 år etter jeg fikk min protese. Du kan kontakte Kysthospitalet i Bergen, for det var de som opererte den i Norge.

I'm the anomaly, age-wise. I'm almost 75, and have always been very active up until this past winter. I like to hike, mountain bike, do inline street-skating, and up until last year was roller skating at skateboard parks. I also used to ski in the most distant past. I'm still skating and biking some, but mostly on the flats and still am extremely painful and can hardly walk the day after exercise. I've been putting off hip replacement because I figured I'd have to give up skating altogether because of the fall risk, even though I wear protective gear and hip pads. According to the doctors I have very mild osteopenia. This resurfacing procedure looks promising. Are there any Medicare supplemental insurance companies that cover this procedure? I'm considering dropping my Kaiser insurance and getting something else before getting hip surgery.

@@8180634 Sought two opinions. The surgeon that performed the BHR and another that rebuilt my shoulder. Both said the same thing. The femur head would likely be degraded after so long so a total hip replacement would be the best option.

I am a very active 63 year old male who wants to do my regular activities without restrictions. Is there a way to learn about your surgery methods? Do you incorporate robotics in any way for measurement purposes? Thank you again for any information you can share or directing me to a website for more detailed information. Also since you are not in my area of the country is this an outpatient procedure or would I need to stay in the Columbia area for a period of time for recovery and followup. Thanks again.

Being disabled is also toxic. Lack of exercise, injuring other body parts doing daily things because your hip just won't bend anymore so you have to bend at other places in odd ways, no fun in life, eating anti inflammatories like it's candy in a vain attempt to sleep at night, the list goes on. Pick your poison.
