Had left PAO, FAI and Labral repair at 32. Non-union repair, bone grafting and screw removal at 36. Just had a THR 5 weeks ago, which had to be done twice because I kept dislocating after surgery. The 2nd THR surgery was removal of all instruments from the previous surgery. A larger stem, neck and ball was used in addition to a dual mobility cup. I'm having most of my pain in the lower and upper trochanter and the iliopsoas right now. I'm a hair dresser so standing all day can be VERY challenging. Thanks for your video. It's so helpful to hear an explanation of DDH from a medical professional!! Thanks for sharing your journey!! Xoxo

I had pao with arthroscopic sx at age 33. It wasn't a good recovery. I developed femoral nerve impingement in my leg, drop foot and CRPS. I'm now 40, and I'm having a 3rd surgery to fix another labrum tear due to mucoid degeneration. There is a lot that goes into this surgery, and unfortunately none of these hings were ever told to me or did I find in research studies. My thigh is still numb and sensitive to touch, I cannot wear tights or leggings, even jeans still bother me. I have never had 1 day without pain unfortunately. I'm not able to run anymore or do heavy lifting because my hips hurt so bad. People just need to hear stories and do the research and make sure this is what you need to do. Because it will affect you the rest of your life. Thankyou for sharing your story. I also had one of the best surgeons in the country. So just know, that everyone heals differently from this sx.

I’ve commented on this video before 2 years ago, and I’m currently 1.5 years post op and I had my surgery December 6th 2023, and I got a bunch of helpful recovery gifts for Christmas that year. I also got to meet my baby niece that year as well. I had to use a walker, wheelchair, but not crutches as that was dangerous and I couldn’t put any weight on my left leg at all for months, and I could start putting weight on it around 3.5 months. Since they moved one of my muscles up a bit, it was weird walking at first and the hip was sore because I hadn’t been putting weight on it for so long. I lost muscle mass and my leg ended up being shorter than my right, so I now have an inch think orthopedic wedge in both pairs of my shoes. I had to wear a hip brace custom made for me at Shriner’s Hospital for Children, and that’s were I also got my shoe wedges. I had to sleep on my back at all times, and had to sleep with a foam wedge between my legs so my legs would be in a V position. I couldn’t bend my knees or straighter my legs at all, just because I wasn’t doing physical therapy at this time (because of gas and car issues). Me and my mom quickly decided to do physical therapy at Shriner’s. My physical therapist was absolutely wonderful and we had the best conversations. She would be very helpful, and she helped me if my exercises were too tough for me. She helped me if I was stressed or sad about anything, and I really thank her for all she has done. My surgeon and husband assistant helped me so much and to see the improvement with my pain and walking is so much better than before. My pain was up to a 10, but now it’s barely there. It gets hard on cold days or around winter since my bones start to ache, but just the operation site is a bit tender to touch even 1.5 post op. I tend to make sure no one sits very close to me or make sure my dogs tail isn’t wagging by me cause it is sore. I do have some numbness below the site, but I can feel above my scar, and I have a bit of nerve damage on my right foot from hopping on it for 3.5 months. Other than that, my recovery has been absolutely fantastic. I had a few troubles and going home for the first time was tough, but if I had to do surgery again, just to know that my pain would be gone, I’d do it in a heart beat. Thanks for all the kind responses from my last comment!

Thank you for making this video I thought I was the only one to be having hip issues this young (I just turned 15) and I've been dealing with a very similar hip issue but in my case at first they thought the cause of my hip pain was because my hips are turned inwards which causes intoeing so my doctors treated me for that and I went to physical therapy but that just made the pain worse. I finally got an mri and it showed that I have a torn labrum and im having surgery in feb. I really wanted to kinda know what im getting into and your video really helped me.

Also hip dysplasia from childhood. I went in on day one for total hip replacement surgery of one hip then discharged on day 3 with crutches. Encouraged to get mobile ASAP with expectations of being back to normal walking by week 6-8. I have just had second total hip replacement a year later. On day 4 after surgery now so mobilising to the bathroom and sitting up. Doing bed excersises. Have already done stairs but taking it slow today. I’m 23 years old and just got diagnosed with relatively mild hip dysplasia and I’ve had a torn labrum for 3 years and need the same exact surgery you did and I am absolutely terrified for what is to come. The injections to the hip were amongst the most painful experiences of my life and I am terrified of needles, so the self injections post op are a thing of nightmares for me. My surgery is also scheduled for summer so I will be in pain or in bed most of the summer. What are some tips to combat depression and this whole situation? Any tips are appreciated

Great video. Very informative. Its like you know my life! Lol. Unfortunately I was told I was "too old" at age 38 to get the PAO surgery. This is unfortunate because I would have been able to have it done with one of the top Orthopedic Surgeons who does this frequently. He happens to be working at Brooke Army Medical Center, Ft Sam Houston in San Antonio, TX. Which is where I'm retiring out of at the end of this year. He told me I have to wait 6-8 years when my hips wear out and get replacements 😢 😭 I hope your healing goes well. Keep up the good work on yourself!

@DOCGIRLFITNESS2 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for watching! How has your recovery been? I would say the biggest difference is the recovery time -- the surgery I had is also known as a 'hip preservation' surgery, as it preserves the bone rather than replacing it fully with hardware (which is what happens with a total hip replacement). Typically recovery time is longer when preserving the bone, but it can sometimes prolong or prevent the need for a hip replacement down the line. If you're interested in what my recovery looks like 2 years after my first hip surgery and 11 months after my revision surgery, make sure to check out this week's video which drops in an hour! Hey there! I hope recovery is going well for you, and thank you for your patience with my late reply! To answer your question, I essentially LIVED in those cute little 2 piece jogger sets! Like I wore them around the clock and they were a game changer. Super comfortable and very affordable. I bought several of them on Shein and got them in long sleeve, short sleeve, long pants, and short pants and it allowed me to wear them both in the home and also when heading to doctor appts. I also wore a lot of night gowns earlier on in the post-op period because it allowed me to easily put on and take off clothes more easily without requiring as much help. I hope this helps! I just uploaded a new post-op update video where I go over recovery from this point, and I have a few more videos coming soon where I'd love to answer questions! @DOCGIRLFITNESS2 жыл бұрын
Great question! When I say 'tough', I really mean the recovery process can be difficult and grueling, especially if you have little-to-no experience with having a surgery in the past. The surgery itself is also a complex surgery. I recommend talking with your doctor to learn more about whether or not this would hold true for you, because everyone is different and for you it may be walk in the park! But it was a bit of a tough process for me
