I was diagnosed with a hip labrum tear about ten years ago, at which point it was moderately affecting my mobility. Strangely the symptoms got much better about two tears later. When I do your test I can still feel pain but it no longer affects my life significantly. This was without any treatment, which seems strange but that’s how it is.

Thank you for this information. I was sent to an orthopedic Dr who refused to look at my MRI results showing a labral tear, had a useless and ineffective cortisone injection, was re-diagnosed with hip bursitis, sent to PT where I was given 3 ridiculous exercises that made my pain worse to the extent I fired my PT. Back to square one after 2 weeks. I have no trust in doctors or PT (after knee surgery I was made to bench press 50 pounds). I have danced all my life and had an accident at work. I fell on my hip in 2021 but did not get an MRI and was dismissed like trash. I am not looking for surgery. I found HBI and am taking joint supplements to reduce the inflammation. Then I came across this video and your exercises. I do have arthritis now after being in pain for 3 years which worsened. It’s aggravating knowing that doctors dismiss their patients, waste insurance money sending us to PT that is ineffective and we have to suffer. I also started taking collagen. I am nearing 60 and need to get back into the gym. I am still very flexible but less on the injured hip. I am not sure squats would work for me as I have injured knees. Strengthening the glutes is doable though so that I can stop the locking. If you know of a good orthopedic dr in Vegas, I would love to get the care I need. After my knee surgery I do not want my hip in more disarray (same leg). Again, thank you for giving me hope.

My pain was mostly in my groin. My hip locked a lot and my left leg is weaker. Last summer, I would involuntarilly bend over at the waist.It was so weird. Just unexpectedly, I would bend over and straighten back up right away. My doctor looked at me like I had three heads. After complaining of extreme pain for six years, they finally gave me an MRI and dx'd a labrum tear.

Hi Doctor. I have no doubt I have a hip labrum tear, but have been told I need a MRI to confirm it. Your quick test confirmed this for me, especially considering where the pain is and my constant hip locking (which runs down to my knee when I try to 'unlock'). I am hoping to skip both the MRI and ortho appointment, and first try physiotherapy. The question is: Can physical therapy help fix my problem or am I just prolonging the inevitable?

Thank you so much for explaining this so well. I am a female police officer here in Australia and an MRI showed a labrum tear. I was wondering if this could be due to the weight of the equipment I carry daily (about 13kg) I’m also keen to know if a partial rupture to my Achilles on the same side 6 months ago could have contributed to the tear. My doctor initially suggested that a change in my gait to compensate for the Achilles injury could have caused the tear. Either way, I’m so thrilled at the explanation you have provided here. It’s the first time I’ve actually understood what my condition is.

Thanks for this great video Doc! Why don’t more general physicians think a hip issue could be a torn labrum? I now know I have a torn labrum but three docs told me it was just a bit of arthritis. X-rays we’re taken and show osteophytes but not bad enough damage for a hip replacement. Of course the labrum doesn’t show up. I did try to explain the terrible pain experienced to no avail. The pain clinic said it is an SI joint issue when clearly the X-rays showed patent SI joints. I figured the pain clinic was trying to sell injections 😢. I have learned much from your videos that help me in my self PT.

When I fractured the pubic remii a year ago (after a horse fall) I certainly wasn't given any of this information. I've had to do the research myself at considerable cost going to various practitioners. The scar tissue therapist has proved invaluable. I have found that my hip cries out for rest sometimes. This is so informative and leads me to think that a labrum tear is possibly the problem. I've had several X-rays but will also be having an MRI. Just wondering if a labrum tear restricts mobility ?

Omg! For the first time I understood why it happened to me. Thank you for the explanation! Could you please go into stem cell therapy for labrum tear?
@epmanualphysicaltherapyАй бұрын
Hey @MsStarcluster, you are very welcome! We are glad that this was able to help you better understand your situation! StemStem cell injections might be able to help but it is only a temporary fix. These injections aim to help heal and reduce swelling. However, it's not a guaranteed fix, and results can vary. It can also be expensive, and some people might not see a lot of improvement. It's better to focus on the root cause which in a lot of cases is a muscle imbalance stemming from the glutes. We will leave our hip labrum tear playlist here for you so that if you would like, you are able to attempt some of the exercises that do help heal the root cause: “Hip Labrum Tear Help” kzbin.info/aero/PLJVIPiFvv1mZNugkhV8zHHPUu4PVh3vUy Start with one or two exercises, beginning with the smallest range of motion and the lowest intensity. As you feel stronger, you can gradually increase both the range of motion and intensity. It’s best to do these exercises every day throughout the day. Aim to tire out the muscle without losing form or control. Consistency is key. Always avoid working through pain; soreness and mild discomfort are normal, but pain is not. We also want to note that any tear of any kind does have a lengthy healing time, so we ask that you be patient with yourself and your body! We hope this helps! Please keep us posted on your progress 🧡

My hip is stiff in morning or after sitting for a while, smooths out after a mile walk then feels better. Think I can walk my way to recovery, walking 4.5 miles in morning and 3 miles in evening. It is getting better after 3 weeks walking but I am planning for 3 months to recover (700 miles).

I believe that shortening of the muscle and modification on the biomechanic to walk and run hurts the achilles.

I have had symptoms now for 2 years, minor at first, saw an ortho a year ago who dxd arthritis and said hip replacement. I was not ready, and frankly, didn't feel my symptoms warranted surgery. Now a year later i get a second opinion who did more xrays and reviewed my MRI. My arthritis was not that bad, but he saw a labrum tear. We're wanting to put off surgery as long as possible, so tried an injection, not totally successful. I am walking more and trying to be normal. We'll see what happens in follow-up.

However, I have none of the symptoms you mention (pain in front, hip locking, stiffness then loosening). My pain is completely on the side. It is okay sitting, hurts standing and walking and lying down to sleep is an effort to find a comfortably position. I had a cortisone shot (my 4th in 1.5 yrs) 3 weeks prior and it has steadily gotten worse since the shot. The doctor is already sharpening his scalpel. But I'm not 100% convinced what is causing pain or why. Any ideas or thoughts?

@epmanualphysicaltherapy2 жыл бұрын
Hey Ana! Sorry to hear that your loved one is having this problem. Testicular pain can happen with sciatica. And yes, this muscle imbalance usually sets it up. There is a branch off the sciatic nerve called the pudendal nerve. This nerve innervates the male and female genitalia. When there is a pinched nerve in the area, in rare circumstances it can cause genital pain.

I recently seen my orthopedic doctor for hip pain. He recommended MRI however he did see arthritic changes in the X-ray

A MRI will not give you a for sure answer if you have a labrum tear. A good spot therapist Will help much more.

I have a pain in the front of the hip, towards the groin, opening the hip (legs open outwards) is okay but when closing legs together it is very painful. Had a bike accident at burning man last year that damaged my knee and ankle. Those have healed but then this started after I tripped and fell a few months ago that has left me unable to walk some mornings. Could this be a tear?

Great video! I have been having front hip pain in the fold, just like you talked about. The knee test did give me pain in my left side. It hurts when i set or lay in the floor when i get up, and if i sit in a car and get out. My question is, could a femoral hernia have the same symptoms. I dont have a visible bulge, and it doesnt hurt when i lift anything or cough,sneeze etc.

I'm struggling with a lot of progression of joint pain I feel like I'm being misdiagnosed by my doctor for the past 6 weeks I've been off of work because mainly I've been having severe pain in my right hip I'm due to do physical therapy he keeps saying it's greater trochanteric bursitis but I'm literally living in pain it's very frustrating to have progressive issues hopefully I can get to the bottom of this but everything you're describing is what I'm going through

Any advice for posterior tears? Not a lot of info out there for the back but a whole lot for the front and while some of the pain is the same, some of the pain is different and the stretches to help can't be done like the ones for the front. In physical therapy, they had me doing the exercises for a front tear and it feels like that just made the posterior tear a lot worse. Especially when working the glutes.

I don't know if your are replying now but do you think the hip imbalance can cause severe low back spasms that imobilize you for months? Also, if you tear the labrum, can it cause a i voluntary spasm in your foot the moment it happened?

During X-rays and MRI my feet were braced and big toes touching. However when I looked at the images you could clearly see that my left femur was externally rotated in comparison to the right femur. You could see the lesser trochanter. On the right femur you could hardly see it. Could this be an opposite problem to the femoral glide syndrome you describe so the glutes and TFL are pulling the femur to external rotation? I also feel a pulling in the outside of my left knee. I have been diagnosed with a small labral tear and Focal chondral loss with small joint effusion in my left hip.

Get ready!!!! I DO HAVE, a hip Labrum tear, along with, SI Joint syndrome, IT Band tendinopathy ( outside of my left thigh, down to the knee, is so painful) which was diagnosed as Meralgia Paresthetica ( 6 years ago) come to find out, it’s the tendons, along with gluteus medius and minimus tears, trochanter hip bursitis ( bilateral) I’ve lived with severe chronic pain, for six years! I’m being told, to try, “PRP” injections, ultrasound wave therapy, have had trigger point injections, and just don’t know, what to do😢 Is it ok to do aquatic therapy, or, will it irritate the IT Band?

Very unhappy with the P T I'm seeing now , two years ago went to the same place and a fantastic woman worked with me , and because of her , I can walk straight forward without pain . She's not there and now I've seen two young ones , both with their Dr. degree , and they are so arrogant . Telling me I need surgery , lecturing me about quality of life , telling me negative comments after orthopedic videos are false , and never once mentioned this labrum tear , and the reason I asked to go back is because the hip is seizing up , can't put weight on it or walk till it passes .. The pain clinic gave me Zanaflex and it works pretty well to stop spasms . I have valid reasons for not having surgery , and they do not respect that , they go on and on trying to " set me straight ". Can you open another clinic in CA.? LOL

@@Olof-mh4do Hi thank you , Still have to work , can walk for two or three hours at a time , when I change positions like getting out of my car , the hip goes into a spasm and I have to kind of shake the leg for a minute till I can walk .Very inconvenient but people have worse problems than I do . Can't face the surgery , no support system to drive me to appointments for the month you cant drive , I have a disabled child and pets that need care , and no one to step in if anything goes wrong ..Met 4 different surgeons trying to prepare for the future - just arrogant - I can't ..

I have been in a lot of pain since October 2022. Had a hip shot and mri. Mri showed a nondisplaced tear or fraying of the anterosuperior hip labrum and mild hip joint capsultis. Most of my pain is in the butt all the way to my toes. It’s not sciatic, hurts and feels very heavy. Especially in my butt area. Do you have any ideas what could be going on.

Was just diagnosed with torn hip labrum via MRI. I do not want surgery, I am way too active and healthy to do a surgery that will affect my stability. Does the torn labrum cause clicking/popping/grinding? I am feeling that constantly. Pain isn’t bad at all though.
@epmanualphysicaltherapy Жыл бұрын
Hey TheEnderxx, It's heartbreaking to hear that were just diagnosed with a torn hip labrum!🥺It is understandable that being active and healthy that you would want to avoid surgery. It is normal to have clicking/popping/grinding but it's usually accompanied by pain. It is encouraging to hear that you haven't been experiencing any pain in the area. You would be able to improve the issue by doing the right exercises to naturally heal your hip labrum tear. If you are interested in getting started please free to check out this video that addresses How To Avoid Surgery and Naturally Help Heal A Labrum Tear: "How To Avoid Surgery and Naturally Help Heal A Labrum Tear" kzbin.info/www/bejne/hoGQY2ahhNiaabs We'd love to hear how you are doing as you progress.🙌 Please take care!

@@epmanualphysicaltherapy wow thank you for the QUICK reply! There is some pain but it is minimal and only in a certain range of motion activating my hip flexors rotating the knee outward (not 100% certain on the anatomical terms) Definitely accompanying the minimal pain though is clicking popping grinding as well as what feels like tendons/muscles slipping over the ball joint. Docs want surgery. I will look into this video and implement it and if there are any other videos or sources of Information you can point me to I would appreciate that a ton. I hate how convoluted the whole medical industry is with information, always pushing for surgery to make money. It’s exhausting. Thank you for doing what you do and putting the information out that you do.

Im a 45 yr old, athletic male. For the last month, my right hip can give blinding pain if my leg gets bumped or twisted either way. I can do lunges with no pain at all. I. An walk with no pain. But then someone bumps my leg, or i make a turn and twist my leg, and its just the most painful thing for about 30 seconds. Then it gets better in a few minutes like it never happened. Its debilitating. I'll never play hockey or ski or play with the kids like this. Does anyone have these symptoms? Im too damn young for this.
