That's why most groups first album is often the only good one because after that, the label pushes the band to cater to people who bought the first record. Good acts are always choosing their own trajectory here. Like the chili peppers in the 80s and 90s. this is probably the best advice you could ever get as a musician. don't get feedback, don't get critique - about your technique sure, but not about your art, keep your art far, far away from that. other people's perceptions of your work will poison you. create for yourself and yourself alone, and protect that jealously from being tainted by outside influences.
@persona7-7-72 жыл бұрын
Why?
@999a0s2 жыл бұрын
@@persona7-7-7 for "serious work", outside perceptions don't exist as far as you're concerned, they're irrelevant - and your mindset and approach to that art is something that's internal, vulnerable, and fragile, sometimes in the deepest way. that mindset and approach is a little world you live in when you create, for you and you alone; as soon as you start hearing opinions and perceptions, those stick to you and bend your creative process; the perceptions of others change how you perceive your own work. for some types of work this is fine, but not for the serious stuff. you have to be judicious about how you share it and how it interacts with the world out there. by the same token you should be judicious about how you consume art, media, and information, because "you are what you eat" creatively, and what you consume shapes the mental network of associations that guides your intuition, motivation, and creative process.
@persona7-7-72 жыл бұрын
@@999a0s I respect your perspective but an artist needs to make money, in order to do that you will need to sacrifice and play it mainstream.
@999a0s2 жыл бұрын
@@persona7-7-7 this is certainly true. I’m being a hardliner. Irl you can’t just do what I described if you want a career. But the overall idea of being judicious of what you put out there and how you engage with criticism still persists. If you watch or read interviews with musicians, many have dealt with this issue of feeling hurt by the reception of their work, or having their creative direction derailed. It’s just something to keep in mind, and you only need to take it super seriously if you’re doing the “serious” stuff. Most work isn’t the “serious” stuff.
