True artifact of the age. Notice the "curb feeler" mounted on the front of the police car. Little known fact about Burt Mustin. He was one of the very first professional announcers on radio....he joined the staff of KDKA in Pittsburgh in 1921. He also sang with the Pittsburgh Opera Company.

i feel bad i agree with the older dude. He was a bit crass and unwelcoming. But truthfully. Why do the hippies want to congregate in the nicer neighborhood? There's a reason why the area is nice and attractive. People work really hard to keep it that way. A hippie has no interest in doing the work it takes to upkeep the area. Throw away trash, keep an appropriate noise level, don't park on your lawn or illegally on the street. They CAN be different. But the least they can do is leave the area as nice as they found it.

That's not a jab at the military either, I've got nothing but the utmost respect for those brave men and women, more so poking fun at the fact people from that era seemed to think it was literally the only option, especially for men. I was able to keep my sanity until the end when old Bert turned hippie on us. Back when this program came out I was in my late teens. I had a little length to my hair and wore the attire the other kids was wearing. One day I did something my dad didn't like and he piped up and said "I'm tired of all you hippies with all your free love". I replies, free love? Where? I ain't found none of that yet.

Remember Bert as "Gus" the fireman on many Leave it to Beaver shows. At age 90 Bert was on the Johnny Carson show, He sang, told funny stories........his mind as sharp as a tack. His TV and movie career started at age 67, LOL when most people retire, he started a whole new successful career.

At least the Hippies could cut there long hair, change into everyday look. No one the wiser. Today's generation of tattooed bodies and piercings can't do that. They're marked for life.
