True artifact of the age. Notice the "curb feeler" mounted on the front of the police car. Little known fact about Burt Mustin. He was one of the very first professional announcers on radio....he joined the staff of KDKA in Pittsburgh in 1921. He also sang with the Pittsburgh Opera Company.

i feel bad i agree with the older dude. He was a bit crass and unwelcoming. But truthfully. Why do the hippies want to congregate in the nicer neighborhood? There's a reason why the area is nice and attractive. People work really hard to keep it that way. A hippie has no interest in doing the work it takes to upkeep the area. Throw away trash, keep an appropriate noise level, don't park on your lawn or illegally on the street. They CAN be different. But the least they can do is leave the area as nice as they found it.

That's not a jab at the military either, I've got nothing but the utmost respect for those brave men and women, more so poking fun at the fact people from that era seemed to think it was literally the only option, especially for men. I'm glad people decided to do different things with their lives, it's a large reason there's been such huge advancements made in just about every field that exists, some that unintentionally have even helped the U.S. military too so a win win.

My Cub Scout leader back in the late 1970s had a VW van. We loved riding around in that van. Damn I miss the late 1970s and the 1980s those vans were still everywhere at that time.

Good old reliable Burt Mustin. He was one of the busiest character actors, appearing in hundreds of productions in his almost six-decade career. He had an appearance in almost every television show. He worked continuously right up to his death in 1977 at 92 years of age.

When I was 13 watching this show I viewed Burt Mustin's character as an old coot out of touch with the present. Now, 53 years later, I'M the old coot and I'll be damned if I don't have the same attitude. All life's a circle....
