I absolutely love the chosen voice actors for Eques. I'm fairly certain not all of them are VA's by profession yet there's this degree of personality that each one brings. You've got the professional yet relaxed leader who treats the whole thing as a leisurely stroll, but is clearly a capable leader. The matter of fact rifleman pilot who speaks to his lance mates almost as if they're telling him stuff he already knows. Possibly ex military. Certainly feels like he'd be the most by the books of the group. You've got the wisecracking catapult pilot who is clearly the most laid back of the bunch, he doesn't seem to take things as seriously, and I'd wager most of the teams friction comes from his antics and the rifleman pilot being perturbed by them. Then there's the Hunchback pilot, who, oddly I think her most telling scene was one where she didn't say anything, but just stared at and gunned down a bunch of infantry. She seems like the member of the team who could harbour the roughest past, and has become hardened because of it. Not completely cold or emotionless, but certainly harder. I infer this from the fact she doesn't say a lot overall and what she does say is based on the situation. I'm thinking she's from a family that was betrayed or killed, and took to mechwarrior-ing to seek justice. Though to be fair that's pretty common in the battletech universe. I also feel like she could be the newest addition into Eques Lance, because she seems to be the least experienced, granted I'm inferring that entirely from one rather sparse dialogue exchange. "Four watch your left!" "What?" The fact that she's Eques 4, and that she wasn't quite as aware of everything going on around her to the point where her mech lost an arm. All of them are great, every single VA on the project, I just wanted to share specifically what I had inferred from the main 4 so far.

Amazing video. I know that it's a long wait in between because this is a passion project and does not have the financial backing of a big studio. Thank you for the effort. The animation, music and script are great stuff. We all love it and can't wait to see more.

Whoo Hooo!!! More Hired Steel!!! YES!!! Hunchback has lost an arm, half of the Catapult's missiles are down, and everyone's got damage... and an ATLAS is in bound. Yeah, things are getting 'dicey'.
@brayachdragonbane7529 Жыл бұрын
not half, he lost a few tubes... its a nice detail the books point out but games never do.... if you only lose 2 or 3 racks in an LRM system it still works just fine, less the failed tubes.. hunchy lost an arm (and a lot of its RA has been detonated) so the main brawler is hurting... the rifleman took some nasty hits from those launchers and armor but didnt seem to take any major breaches (shocking for such an armor light payload heavy machine) Boss Tex took some glancing blows from the tbolts missile barrage (and is down to 80% AMS) and has a hellstorm of pain incoming from a trenchbucket with a bad AMS angle
@franksmedley7372 Жыл бұрын
@@brayachdragonbane7529 : Humm... So, the Catapult's damaged rack might only fire a dozen and a half missiles or so (plus or minus one or two), instead of the full 20. If Baradul's Rifleman takes much more damage to the torso, he's going to be toast. The Hunchback really needs to protect that right side, to get in a few AC-20 hits on the Thunderbolt and the Atlas (or is it an Orion?). Especially the Assault Mech. Tex's ride really needs to step up and shield the rest of the lance against both enemy Mech's missiles. That AMS ammo is going to be burnt through pretty quickly. Equis Lance is going to need the luck of the gods to deal with both the Thunderbolt AND the Atlas (or perhaps it's an Orion). Both are pretty heavily armored and can take a LOT of punishment (I know, the Orion and Thunderbolt were my first Mechs on the tabletops. I loved 'em). Oh, wait, the T-bolt is on the ground (I sort of 'forgot' that detail in the excitement of a new video). That evens things out a bit more than I thought. But a fresh Orion, or Atlas, would be a serious threat to Equis Lance in any case. Whatever it is, it has two LRM-15 racks, and what looks like a pair of beam weapons in the right arm.
@brayachdragonbane7529 Жыл бұрын
if we're going by book basis (which we seem to be) then yea, the cats still got good tubes on that lrm, the whole pod didnt go down (Catapults, omnimechs before omnimechs were cool) all of the hunchy's damage has been left arm, the PPC finished off her crippled arm from earlier in the first engagement her right side's fine (less the RA,reactive armor) Baradul's rifleman's armor is probably paper thin, if not already peeled off honestly... those things carry payload but not much in the way of armor depending on how much pain that brutal trenchbucket brings (he does have almost a whole lance worth of kills and nearly 2 armored lances of kills judging from his missile and mech tallies, right torso front) and Tex has a bad AMS intercept angle for at least half the 30 LRMs coming in on his ass... onions are pretty tough refirgerators, but the monster in that base HAS to be an Atlas (thats the mech the Kerensky quote was about) we've met 3 members of Shark lance afterall, their light was the locust earlier on guard duty, then they had the Tbolt and that inbound trenchbucket... that leaves the commander, whome based on our opening quote is probably in an atlas (they could get away with a King Crab as it was built to pair with the atlas, but that would be a bit of a stretch) Equis is in the sludge now, at least half their mechs are near compromised... but half of the opposition is gone... we'll have to wait and see.... Mr. Tex did survive all this shit, he's an academic nowdays afterall
@franksmedley7372 Жыл бұрын
@@brayachdragonbane7529 : First off, I don't think it is an Atlas. No 'death's head' cockpit. And 2nd, the general layout screams out Trebuchet, or Orion. And since the Mech is at LEAST as large as the Thunderbolt that was standing before the doors, I am convinced it is an Orion. A modified ON-1K Orion. Go back and look at the size of the T-bolt in the videos, then the size of the Mech exiting. That's NO 50-tonner. Nope, more like a 75-ton Orion. Which would make the quote relevant, since Kerensky did pilot an Orion. Also, the quote could be 'foreshadowing' of the appearance of an Atlas inside the facility. Both the Thunderbolt and Orion are 'highly' modified, considering 3025 tech level. I got a reply to a posting from one of the 'makers' of the video, and the time period is the early 3040s, so BEFORE the Clan Invasion. The T-bolt has its usual triple Medium Lasers in the left torso, and the usual LRM-15 atop the right torso. But, it fired an AC! The only way to do that is to strip out the MGs, ammo, SRM and its ammo, and the Large Laser from the right arm, to free up the tonnage for an AC-5 and a ton of ammo. The Mech we see exiting the facility is at least as large as the T-bolt, so it can't be a 'mere' 50-tonner. Which leads me to the 75-ton Orion design. If you freeze-frame and look, it has a Medium Laser atop the left arm, as well as the LRM-15 located there. It has an LRM-15 in the right torso, AND what seems to be an AC in the right arm. Given this, I used MechLab, the sub program of Mech Headquarters, to see if this was possible. It is. One ton of ammo for the AC-5, 2 tons of ammo for each LRM-25 launcher, AND the Medium Laser, all 'fit' on that frame, without needing to remove heat sinks, change engine size, or alter armoring. Agree or not, your choice.

I have been playing and supporting this franchise since its inception. Tabletop, Mechwarrior games on every platform, hell I was even in a competitive league when the BattleTech Centers were a thing back in 94-96!!! Now THOSE things were amazing...closest thing to actually being in a mech I have ever played. 130 something toggles, foot pedals, switches buttons etc. and none were just for show. Watching people do amazing fan led stuff like this, and getting the KZbin mechwarrior community to do voicework...just way to many kudos to pass around! Keep the vids coming guys!!!

Awesome! I'm really happy to see this installment of Hired Steel, and can't wait for the next one (I couldn't even if there wasn't a cliffhanger). I feel like this series is basically the tabletop brought to life. The engagements are quick and deadly, yet every unit has its five seconds of fame. Even the infantry, never underestimate the infantry! I can't wait to see more, and what surprises you have waiting in the wings. PS: I enjoyed the extra bit at the end of Tex having fun reading the script. This is probably a dream come true for him too. It's great to hear the cast is having fun with this as much as I am.

That was the best battletech/mechwarrior content I've ever seen hands down. Thank you guys so much for this. There's finally something I can point to and say "THIS IS WHY I LOVE BATTLETECH!" Quick question, once Hired Steel is finished, are ya'll going to go back and remaster the first few episodes so that things are a little more consistent throughout the series? The first few episodes are great, but I really think this series has the potential to outcompete even Astartes if the quality is at least this good throughout the whole series.
