I love that Rob has read the books and can provide important context that the movies left out. I've watched so many reactors for the HP series and they are clueless on certain points because the movie didn't exactly do a great job at spelling it out. For example, Neville's parents or Percy being estranged from his family. Love the reactions, guys! You're awesome.

It's impossible to understand the intricacies and depth of the story from the films. The films just provide the basic skeletal structure of the story with a lot of bones missing or in the wrong place. The books have all the flesh and sinews and everything. Unless they make like 2 films per book, it's better suited for a tv series adaption

This is when i really miss the dislike counter, no offence intended, we're all allowed our opinions but, i disagree wholeheartedly. Some of teenage angst is fine yet i feel it took place of better source material, like Tom Riddles backstory in The Half Blood Prince, for example. That was the reason that book was my favourite of the series, and why i was so eagerly anticipating the movie with the same title. Now we're just left with Voldy is evil just cause, since he never had his backstory flushed out, which is horrible character building.

At the time the ministry was attempting to make Harry and Dumbledore out to be crazy since they were saying Voldemort was back. Love how you mention Order of the Phoenix is one of your favorites of the books. So many people hate it because it’s “too long” and spends a lot of time in Harry’s head. But the defeat of Umbridge is so satisfying, and this is easily the best book in terms of the Weasley twins representation. It’s their biggest book. And I feel it is scary accurate and relevant how the media is portrayed in the books when compared to real life. The last quarter of the book is so hard to reread knowing what happens and how hard Harry fights to succumb to Voldemort’s trap.

Sirius' death is the one that always hits me hardest. His relationship with Harry was built so quickly and yet there is a special bond between them. Sirius sees James, his best friend that he would have died for, in Harry. Harry, in turn, finally has a parental figure in his life that also provides a connection to his actual parents. The duel, them finally working together and Sirius being so lost in the feeling that he thinks he's back in the old days, fighting alongside James and Harry feeling proud to have stepped up and become worthy, at least for a split second, to be called James by Sirius and then Sirius being ripped away from his always feels like a stab in my heart.

He was worried about “escaped mass murderer Sirius Black” then and not yet descending into his paranoid denial of Voldemort’s return.

i've read the books once in finnish a couple of years ago and now i'm reading them in english! i've also seen the movies many many times!! but anyways a couple of things: 1. the sirius - james thing. i'm in the marauders fandom (james, sirius, remus and peter when they were younger, and their whole story) and that's why i'm more interested in them anyways and have more to say about them. but yeah the sirius - james thing is interesting, a little weird even and so sad at the same time. like rob said, sirius definitely treated harry like his friend had come back from the dead and it's so devastating to see. but on the other hand, harry also definitely treated sirius like he finally got his "dad" back. the thing that hurts me the most is that they both saw james in each other and it absolutely breaks my heart to think of it in that way, but it is how it was for them. also, after losing james the way sirius did (peter, their best friend betraying them, especially betraying HIM, getting thrown in azkaban for a crime he didn't commit, rotting in a jail cell for 12 years, losing all of his friends and thinking remus is either dead or remus thinking that sirius is a murderer, and all that) he had so much trauma that i can't even begin to understand how anyone could even function as a human being after that. that's why in the books sirius acted the way he acted. the trauma affected him so much and it showed in all the things he did or said, and also why he saw james in harry. i just wanted to throw that into the mix as i believe that's so importart for sirius's character. long live sirius black, one of my all time favourite characters. 2. the snape - marauders thing. first, i know that you guys like snape (?). i hope that although i don't like him at all, you guys understand that i think everyone can like who they like, seeing that they're just book characters and all that, because trust me, i know many fans that can't understand that. but yeah, in the scene where james and the marauders make fun of snape, you guys said that "yeah, james kind of was an asshole, and sirius, too!" while that is true and i won't obviously say it isn't. just remember that it only shows that ONE scene and it's in snape's perspective. yes, that is what happened, and james and sirius, as well as remus and peter too, were teenagers and yes, complete idiots at the time. i just mean that it doesn't mean that snape was the best person either and that's what's kind of stupid in the movies. they try to make snape look like a good person, which he just isn't. yes, you can say he's better than the other deatheaters, but in the books, while lily has been snape's longest childhood friend and he says he has had a massive crush on her, snape calls lily a slur when she tries to help him, which is why lily obviously drops snape immediately. snape's crush on her continues and turns into obsessive behaviour and hate towards james, because james realized he was acting like an asshole and changed his ways for the better; ending up marrying lily, when she saw that james wasn't the asshole he was when he was younger, but that he actually was the good person he had been underneath all the stupidness. the bullying and pranking was constant with the marauders and it's also a back-and-forth thing, between snape and them. the difference between severus snape and james potter is that snape never let the hatred go. james realized he was an idiot and what he was doing was bad. snape continued hating james and being obsessively in love with lily, who didn't love him back and had said it many times. although snape didn't have to forgive james, you would think that he would have had to grow up at some point and change his ways for the better, too. he straight-up didn't. that's the difference. when snape found out that voldemort was planning on killing the potters, he didn't care about james, he didn't care about harry AT ALL. the only thing he cared about was lily. you would think that if he truly loved her purely, he would want her loved ones to be okay, too. he didn't. instead, he spent years being obsessively in love with a woman who simply never loved him back, for OBVIOUS reasons for that matter. he saw james in harry. he hated harry, because he hated james. he traumatized many students over the years and was a really bad teacher. i have so many more things i would like to say, but that's pretty much the main things the books reveal and the movies don't. again, james was a bad person, yes, but he changed. it's important to know that lily despised the marauders when they were teenagers. she wouldn't have married james if it would have been any other way. the truth is, snape was a bad person, too. the movies show couple of the bad things he has done, but it's just so much more than they reveal it to be and i think, it's so important to know that. but yeah, sorry for all that, just wanted to say what was on my mind about those things. again, everyone has different opinions and it's fine, it's just a bookseries :) i love your reactions so much, can't wait for more!!

I love the boss fight with Dumbledore and Voldemort. Something that I kind of appreciate about James and Sirius being awful is that it shows that people can grow and also that Harry's parents were real people. James wasn't perfect but that still doesn't mean Harry shouldn't feel sad that he grew up without parents. I feel awful for Snape, a lot of his pain is understandable.

Not many appreciate Neville but he played a big part too as in the movie (deathly hallows) he killed the serpent which u could say killed a bit of the amount of energy for voldemort. He and Harry for me, are to be equally respected because both had traumatic pasts and both played the role of saving Hogwarts and also both are similarly courageous. Another fun fact, supposedly when they were shooting the movie, Daniele’s grandfather had just recently my passed, and they removed Harry’s actual scream because it was so heart wrenching. It was apparently so heart wrenching that it made Helena and Emma cry on scene/set

A huge thing to remember with Sirius treating Harry like James is that the last time Sirius saw James, he was closer to Harry's current age than Sirius's current age. The actors are older but the Marauders were only early twenties when all this shit went down. So for Sirius, Harry really is a incarnation of James...
