Fantastic reaction program Harri! I love you delving the genius of Elton and his band in this time period of 1973. Even though he won the title of world music artist of the year in 1974, I really feel 1973 and the Goodbye Yellow Brick Road album and tour represents the zenith musically for Elton and his band. Did you notice that Stevie Wonder was on the plane speaking with Elton? Really cool picture of the Stevie when he was getting really big as an artist, having parted ways with Motown and Barry Gordy several years before this. Awesome seeing two musical titans together like that!

From "Yellow Brick Road" album from 1973, one of the greatest masterpieces ever produced. "Harmony", B side of "Benny and The Jets", features Elton's haunting vocals, which conveys a sense of longing and yearning for a deep connection with someone. From the wonderful lyrics, to the hook, the precise harmonies, along with Elton's signature piano playing providing a gentle backdrop to his emotive delivery, this song is unforgettably Classic Elton. Great reaction Harri ❤, please take the time to invest in the whole album, you'll be thrilled by it's unforgettable classics. ❤ Thanks DJ for another great tune from Elton's greatest album. Cheers from Canada ❤❤🇨🇦🇨🇦

💯 Harri! Great review! Start to finish "Good-bye Yellow Brick Road," is a signature album for Elton John. I was in highschool in the early-mid 70's. I listened to this double album 100's of times. Honorable mention, in my opinion, is his album, "Blue Moves," which didn't seem to have a lot of popularity in the US (late 80's), but that particular album is distinctive with a different, often more somber sound, but incredible musicianship and lyrics.

Well, Harri, to your point, the album "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" caught my attention as a 14 year old novice music fan and never let go. Some may argue "Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy" as a counter as his best. No doubt that's a magnificent album, so beautiful and such a biographical theme album. But for sheer scope of the number of songs (GBYBR is a double album; Captain Fantastic is a single) and the fact that just about every track on GBYBR represents musical high points for the Elton John Band, for my personal preference Goodbye Yellow Brick Road edges out Captain Fantastic.

Eltons 10 album run from his self titled in 1970 to Blue Moves in 1976 was amazing!! They all made the top ten and went at least gold. Elton John, Tumbleweed Connection, Madman Across the Water, Honky Chateau, Don't Shoot Me I'm Only the Piano Player, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Caribou, Captain Fantastic & the Brown Dirt Cowboy, Rock of the Westies and Blue Moves. My personal Faves are Honky Chateau, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road and Rock of the Westies, but you absolutely cannot go wrong with any of them. There are gems sprinkled among the tracks of his later works, but he never again had such an incredible streak of consistently strong albums.

Great idea, Harri, to do the whole album. Even if you do it just for yourself. Album listening is a great way to enjoy an artist and the only way allowed in my party days with LPs; no dropping needles on tracks! And Harmony is a fitting epilogue to this masterpiece and my fav EJ tune. Cheers!

Elton hosted a radio show on 99X as a guest dj in 1974 and his fans were calling in to the show to request him to play this song. At least 5 callers requested it. He was affectionately called EJ the DJ by a few radio stations bc he liked to do an hour or two as a DJ. That one was right before John Lennon came to Madison Square Garden for a surprise appearance on Thanksgiving 1974.

"Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" was the biggest selling and most highly acclaimed EJ album. It is regularly found on best album of all-time lists. As you pointed out, Harri, it also has wildly divergent musical styles--something I haven't heard from as much on an album except the Beatles (and they had 3 songwriters and four singers). One of the top 3 albums for me in terms of number of lifetime listens.

Some will say that Goodbye Yellow Brick Road was his high water mark- my personal opinion is that the album just before Goodbye Yellow Brick Road(Don't Shoot Me I'm Only The Piano Player) is his best- but it's all subjective- I saw Elton John on his Yellow Brick Road tour(about 1976-ish) in Seattle- He put on two shows and I saw him both nights- Absolutely amazing(only $20 per show!)- I highly recommend listening to Goodbye Yellow Brick Road from beginning to end- and also listening to Don't Shoot Me I'm Only The Piano Player from start to finishing, as well......your friend in the Pacific Northwest(Seattle) Wayne Maher

Look closely in the video and you will see Stevie Wonder and the tennis star Billie Jean King. Also of course I recognized Elton's manager John Reid, and his band members Dee Murray, Nigel Olsson, and Davey Johnstone. This was made out of clips filmed on the jet that MCA records provided him with to fly to dates on his 1973 world tour.
