It is difficult to find a truck that has won a noble title, such as the FIAT 682. It has been named the King of Africa. The Model 682 was produced from 1952 to 1988 - which puts it among the record holders. The first models were powered by a 10.7-liter diesel engine with only 140 hp (152 in export models). Later, its volume was increased to 11.5 litres and power to 180 hp. The most powerful version was produced in Nigeria (13.8 litres and 230 hp) from 1981 until the end of production. The one which was driven by us is a 682 T2 (Trattore) from the very end of the series and already has a 180 hp engine (export models had 185). Power transmission is provided by a four-speed gearbox with splitter (8 gears in total). Top speed is from 57 to 60 km / h, and with a longer differential (same as with "our") up to 70 km / h.
These trucks were extremely popular in Slovenia, so they were owned by several companies, such as Avtopromet Gorica, Avtoprevoz Tolmin, Gorjanci Novo mesto, Prevoz Brežice, and others. Then they were bought from companies by independent carriers, who drove them for a long time for earning everyday bread. See in the video how this truck legend still rides.
