Onix fx has really bad Def, and both it's Atk and Sp. Atk are higher. And then some random 'mons like Magnemite and Ledyba are incredible; Magnemite fx has amazing HP (while it normally has terrible). Not really sure the dev team actually properly had an insight into the stats of the original Pokes.

At least the new games don’t literally cheat. Gen 5 battle subway made up for shit AI by being proven statistically loaded in favor of the AI. Like the proc chances of quick claw were proven over thousands of trials to be way above normal as well as the accuracy of OHKO moves. The lower ubers elo is full of them, it's basically impossible to reach the competitive Ubers elo without beating through a dozen of them, including at least 2 teams who are mostly on level 1 and about the same amount of teams who don't use six mons. The thing is, those teams never make it to high elo. KZbin makes it seem like these teams effortlessly beat even the strongest teams but in reality all these teams do is beat up small children who don't know how the game works. Most of the time just putting down rocks is enough to beat those teams since it nullifies any focus sash/sturdy shenanigans.

I don't know if there was a reason for it, it just made things unique. Some trainers or challenges had nicknames if I recall, otherwise it was just this.

it ain't remotely dynamax that's the cause. it largely comes down to ivs replacing stat exp ( so pokemon are just flat-out less bulky as a rule ), pokemon actually having movesets, and strong offensive items like life orb - hence why you see the trend as way back as gen iii, it became even more prevalent the gen later, and the pace has been largely stable since the gen after that hell, in some ways, dynamax actually works _against_ how rocket tag-y modern pokemon is, what with it usually taking some focused firepower to take down even a squishy dynamax'd pokemon
