An incredibly underrated and overlooked British Band of the 80's. Rolands voice along with music that's hard not to want to jig along with earned them hit after hit on the UK charts. 'I'm Not The Man I Used To Be' and 'Ever Fallen In Love' are perfect examples of this. For me personally, their Album 'The Raw & The Cooked' was one of the best albums of the decade.

Their song GOOD THING is a must-react-to. It draws straight from 1960s R&B. It’s got a beat that will immediately make you think of bands like The Supremes and The Four Tops. A bit of history: both She Drives Me Crazy and Good Thing went to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. The band had never had major success in the USA before, She Drives Me Crazy came out of NOWHERE. I remember the very first time I heard She Drives Me Crazy, just like it was yesterday. I remember staring at my radio asking myself what the hell is this and OMG it’s amazing!

The 2 guitarists in this band are understated MASTERS! They were also in The Beat (known as English Beat in the US) and they are really fascinating to listen to. They don't really do crazy solos...they are always subtle and complement each other like no 2 other guitarists I have ever heard. I always wished that they would get back together with The Beat. I remember my friends and I geeking out at the clubs jumping around on the dance floors like the characters in this video. This band had some new wave pedigree behind it; the singer, Roland Gift, was an early scenester in London's early punk scene in the mid 70s, while the guitarist and bass player were both in The Beat (The English Beat in The States) part of the early 80s ska revival in the UK. That is a very smooth falsetto. Then he goes down to his head voice, still with a lot of front placement. There is still a lot to learn about how singers use their voices. 😉

I love finding these channels. As a child of the 80s, It’s so disheartening that most younger generations, don’t want to know the music we listened to. Sadly my almost 12 year old is that way (despite many attempts by me in different ways) So I’m all about this :) Idk if anyone said anything in the other comments; but the difference in his vocals between the verses and chorus, is because he’s using his falsetto voice.

A very INXS sound... Still LOVING this song 34+ years later... I also love that you can interject any color of hair and the song still works... 80's HITS... 1. "Tarzan Boy" by Baltimora 2. "One Night in Bangkok" by Murray Head 3. "Rock Me Amedeus" by Falco 4. "99 Luft Ballons (German) or 99 Red Ballons (English)" by Nena (female lead singer/Friday). I honestly feel the German version truly conveys the meaning/feeling of the song far better that the "bubblegum" feeling of the English version. The song is about a phrase of the balloons going up as the start of World War III. Living less than 150 km's from the East German border in 1983 (when this song was released) also tugs at my heart about just how close the world came to the END that fall...AND 5. "Always On My Mind" by the Pet Shop Boys. Easily on par with the Elvis version...

My 7th grade teacher would sometimes gives us popular songs to sing, and I'll never forget the day we got this one. She gave us lyrics that left the 'OhhOhh' out (I think she hated it), but the whole class insisted on adding it. She made us start over at least five times before throwing up her hands and walking out in disgust. Pretty sure we kept singing.

Rock Lobster along with Paul McCartney’s ‘Coming Up’ are the two songs that encouraged John Lennon to get back into making music after his 5 years spent raising his second son Sean and essentially being a househusband whilst Yoko Ono tended to all the business You should check out Paul McCartney’s ‘Coming Up’ from his 1980 album ‘McCartney II’ as well as John Lennon’s ‘Just Like Starting Over’ which is a track from his last album he released before his death called ‘Double Fantasy’ the album is half John Lennon songs and half Yoko Ono songs and was also released in 1980
