The guitarist songwriter Anton Kabanen formed this band when he was kicked out from his previous band Battle Beast. The reason was because he didn't let others write any songs. So yes, there was some drama behind that move and that is also the reason why his new band name is very similar because he got kicked out of the band he considered his own. Kabanen has ability to write very catchy songs and uses a lot of 80's style effects in his songs. Battle Beast has a female singer who is very talented also, you should check Black Ninja from them. I love both of these bands, especially older Battle Beast with Kabanen is great.
@FirstIsa4 жыл бұрын
Odd I would have assumed given the inspiration for most of their lyrics that the band name was a reference to one of the monikers that Guy's get's over the course of Berserk. I mean Zod the Immortal was pretty much a direct pull from the manga/anime, and music video for from hell with love used a near carbon copy of Guts with long hair instead of the usual short spikes.
@JackM.4 жыл бұрын
@@FirstIsa Kabanen is a huge fan of Berserk and a lot of his songs are about that since the Battle Beast days. Not sure what you mean is odd, I just meant he wanted to keep the Beast name in some form. Battle Beast and Beast in Black names are both nod to Berserk.

I really like your thoughts on males singing, as someone who likes metal I generally feel underwhelmed by listening to singers in others genres. In metal it can go from really high pitch clean singing (helloween, queensryche) to low pitch gutturals (any opeth, thy art is murder), high pitch with very intense distortion (blind guardian, judas priest) sometimes singers can even go from one to another like tatiana from jinjer
@BedMau4 жыл бұрын
Wow you made perfect sense, and what you said at the beginning resonated so much with my experience...I (a male) studied singing for ten years and this is basically what my natural approach to singing was, this sound was natural for me, and was told not to pursue it because it was ugly and unappealing to the public. Spent frustrating years trying to sound a way that was very unnatural to me, I was tired at the end of every song for all the things I had to remember shaping my mouth, dropping the larinx as hard as I could, ecc. "maybe you just sounded bad", yes I also didn't have a good ear, my pitch wasn't always on point...I'm not saying I was destined to become a great singer, I think I was decent, but that wasn't fun anymore.

That being said, I do see someone mentioned this artist already, but there is a cover artist called Dan Vasc who does a pretty amazing cover of this song and hits a similar register. I would also check out other covers of his because I would be interested in your take on the range of his voice as I believe he tries to cover all aspects and push himself in that way. Particularly his cover of Nessun Dorma, considering your background in opera singing.

Close, from what I was taught in music theory. A countertenor uses falsetto which is a tone of the headvoice register where you basically don't support the note or barely support it. This gives the note a more airy sound. One of the masters of it was Klaus Nomi. Now, a countertenor might fully support a note yet not as much as using falsetto over fully supported head voice. There are two similar voice types known as the male soprano and a leggiero tenor, and these two are more likely to support the notes fully in head voice. Now, to be consider either a leggiero or a male soprano, you'd have to be able to hit an F5 or higher using passaggio. Now, this is kinda rare and you're more likely to run into a countertenor than either of those. I think another name for a male soprano is a sopranist. Yannis is Greek, btw.

It's super surprising to me to hear you say that it's not totally uncommon for men to hit such high registers. I know very little about singing or music and meanwhile it's your specialty, so I'll certainly take your word for it, but I never would have expected it's even remotely common to be able to hit those kinds of notes with a male voice. Singing is something I am interested in learning how to do, but I don't think I could ever be a countertenor like Yannis (by the way, thanks for that vocab word!) since my voice is a little deeper, perhaps baritone. The idea that it's not out of the question for me to be able to at least get closer to the higher notes than I would have thought is heartening, though. Thank you for the video!

Falsetto (not head voice; there's a difference between the two in the male vocal architecture, similar to female head voice vs. whistle) is super difficult to develop, which is one big reason you don't see a lot of countertenors. Another big reason is there isn't much repertoire for it. It's not necessarily because we need to "sound masculine."

most of you guys probably already know this, but Yannis had a side project in 2019. band is called "Warrior Path" with their selftitled debut album ... It´s just an amazing showcase what Yannis also can do with his vocals one of the greatest in recent years it´s worth a listen

"Men can sing like that", yeah, some. I'm a bass, I might make it up to B4 cleanly. :p (guessing, haven't really had that tested).

Beast in Black is a Finish Power Metal (or wikipedia said Arena Rock since their songs has thick Anthem Rock style of 80s) band. The founder, the guitarist Anton Kabanen was former guitaris of Battle Beast. Yanni Papadopoulos, the vocalist is Greek, he was recruited coz his KZbin vocal cover channel. They have 2 albums so far, both were gathered quite a lot of fans. Beast in Black opened for Nightwish during Vehicle of Spirit tour, hence Yanni Papadopoulos obtained the right to cover some Nightwish songs in his channel. The most famous cover lately that you, Elvann, must react to is his cover of Ghost Love Score.

There's something Nightwishy about the synths in this song. Maybe that's part of why I like it so much.
@NoteSpinner4 жыл бұрын
Have you heard Dan Vasc sing this one? His synth is a little different. However, for the rest of the song, I really enjoy Dan's voice tones to be more palatable. These guys are good, too. Dan's voice is inherited from his father's side of the family. Yannis' better in the "raw" range, a little.

First one I thought of when he started to sing was Jimmy Somerville (Bronski beat, Communards) and the feeling in the refrain is very much pop, but with metal instrumentation.

I was on live where Beast in Black were supporting Nightwish in Poland. They were amazing on live. I would love to recommend you Ocean Deep (ballad). Amazing singer that dealt with Ghost Love Score by himself (on his channel, take a look ;) )

I had to ask my daughter (25) if this song was too "weak" for lack a better term, for me to be so in love with. Even though I don't really care but it brings home the point about us guys being timid about this style of vocals.
