Brain: "I don't like pow.." Heart: "Shut up and dig this." Like the great artist Meatloaf once sang: "Remember everything that I told you, And I'm telling you again that it's true, You're never alone, 'cause you can put on the [head]phones, and let the drummer tell your heart what to do." Music is LIFE, the better the music, the better the life. The more powerful the music, the more powerful the listener.

The guitarist songwriter Anton Kabanen formed this band when he was kicked out from his previous band Battle Beast. The reason was because he didn't let others write any songs. So yes, there was some drama behind that move and that is also the reason why his new band name is very similar because he got kicked out of the band he considered his own. Kabanen has ability to write very catchy songs and uses a lot of 80's style effects in his songs. Battle Beast has a female singer who is very talented also, you should check Black Ninja from them. I love both of these bands, especially older Battle Beast with Kabanen is great.
@FirstIsa
@FirstIsa 3 жыл бұрын
Odd I would have assumed given the inspiration for most of their lyrics that the band name was a reference to one of the monikers that Guy's get's over the course of Berserk. I mean Zod the Immortal was pretty much a direct pull from the manga/anime, and music video for from hell with love used a near carbon copy of Guts with long hair instead of the usual short spikes.
@JackM.
@JackM. 3 жыл бұрын
@@FirstIsa Kabanen is a huge fan of Berserk and a lot of his songs are about that since the Battle Beast days. Not sure what you mean is odd, I just meant he wanted to keep the Beast name in some form. Battle Beast and Beast in Black names are both nod to Berserk.

I really like your thoughts on males singing, as someone who likes metal I generally feel underwhelmed by listening to singers in others genres. In metal it can go from really high pitch clean singing (helloween, queensryche) to low pitch gutturals (any opeth, thy art is murder), high pitch with very intense distortion (blind guardian, judas priest) sometimes singers can even go from one to another like tatiana from jinjer

Wow you made perfect sense, and what you said at the beginning resonated so much with my experience...I (a male) studied singing for ten years and this is basically what my natural approach to singing was, this sound was natural for me, and was told not to pursue it because it was ugly and unappealing to the public. Spent frustrating years trying to sound a way that was very unnatural to me, I was tired at the end of every song for all the things I had to remember shaping my mouth, dropping the larinx as hard as I could, ecc. "maybe you just sounded bad", yes I also didn't have a good ear, my pitch wasn't always on point...I'm not saying I was destined to become a great singer, I think I was decent, but that wasn't fun anymore.

Rue (Pagan's Mind), Tobias Sammet (Edguy, Avantasia), Hansi Kürsch (Blind Guardian), Mike Mills (Toehider), Russell Allen (Symphony X), Michael Eriksen (Circus Maximus), Floor Jansen (Nightwish)] and is taken from that album. As mentioned in another message he did a cover of Ghost Love Score (kzbin.info/www/bejne/pJe9qahnlratppo), which in itself is already quite impressive for a male singer to try. Itshould be a prime candidate for you to react to. On his channel you'll also find more covers that are worth listening to, e.g. a cover of the Kamelot song "The Haunting" (kzbin.info/www/bejne/hWe5qJSwipejmbM) together with Vicky Psarakis ("The Agonist" singer). I wish I had that kind of range. Unfortunately my voice is more geared towards the Manowar/Iron Maiden/Megadeth-style power grouping. Not sure what you'd call that, since I'm not a trained singer, lol.

Hello. Nice to meet you too. I am Steve from Slovakia. You are very pretty and I like watching your reactions. Please try to listen bands as Heavens Gate, song Gate of Heaven, or band Scanner and their song From the Dust of Ages. I hope, that these songs will be like you and they are very interesting. The style is the same as this Helloween band. So sorry for my english language. My english is not well. Thank you, that you are!!! Good luck.

Yannis Papadoupolus is not special? Sure. Out of all the singers in the world that sentence is a reality? Thats like being alive with Freddie Mercury stil within our gene pool and saying that Freddie is not special? I know Im picky on your words, but Yannis is godly.

Growing up on Iron Maiden I'm no stranger to male singers hitting high notes, but even considering that as well the fact I listen to a lot of power metal, hearing the stuff Yannis (here), Christian Eriksson (Former Twilight Force) and Tommy Johansson (Majestica) can do with their voices is definitely special to me. It seems to me you don't hear many men doing it in metal so I'd like to share a few great examples of men doing it in metal. More Yannis: Crazy Mad insane, Moonlight Rendezvous, Sweet True Lies, Christian Eriksson (Twilight Force): Twilight Horizon, Flight of the Sapphire Dragon, Power of Ancient Force, Fall of the Eternal Winter Tommy Johansson (Majestica+Others): Dragonfly, Ghost of Marley (Majestica), Heroes of the World (Symphony of Tragedy) Lay All Your Love on Me (Abba cover, ReinXeed (Majestica former band name)), Cam Pipes (3 Inches of Blood): Deadly Sinners, Premonition of Pain, Revenge is a Vulture Michael Kiske (Helloween): Eagle Fly Free, Dr Stein, I Want Out Hansi Kursch (Blind Guardian) Nightfall, Mirror Mirror, Time Stands Still at the Iron Hill, Curse My Name, Skalds and Shadows

I had to ask my daughter (25) if this song was too "weak" for lack a better term, for me to be so in love with. Even though I don't really care but it brings home the point about us guys being timid about this style of vocals.

Nope, depends on the kind of rock and metal, men tend to go to falsettos, rock of the 80's theres a lot of bands who did more high pitch voices until today... but lots of metal genres it wouldn't be good with this kind of singer, this is more for symphonic, power, etc .. with a classical or pop vibe in the mix... in this case a little of 80's european style pop

Yannis rules the only other vocalists that come close in range are Steve Grimmet,Michael Sweet and the singer from Sanctuary.And out of those 3 its Grimmet and he is no match.

A bit late to the party, looking forward to seeing you react to his GLS cover. Given the long history of women covering the songs of male vocalists, it is really refreshing to see a guy have the guts to cover such an iconic song by a female vocalist. Your "TED talk" made total sense, btw. :)

Most amazing thing about Beat in Black for me is how the manage to draw inspiration for such beautiful songs like "Blind and Frozen" and "Ghost in the Rain" from a Grimdark fantasy like Berserk that so heavily features all the worst parts of humanity.

The issue is that as men get older I don't think they can maintain those same tones. There's a reason why a lot of older metal singers sound terrible as they get older. See Geoff Tate, Don Dokken, Mark Slaughter.

Falsetto (not head voice; there's a difference between the two in the male vocal architecture, similar to female head voice vs. whistle) is super difficult to develop, which is one big reason you don't see a lot of countertenors. Another big reason is there isn't much repertoire for it. It's not necessarily because we need to "sound masculine."

You get a sub just for having a nightwish shirt on. They're my all time favorite band, is Yannis is probably one of the few on the planet that could cover GLS and it be amazing Edit: just went and listened to all of your NW covers. Brava. If Floor had never been a thing, you'd fit well with the sound of Nightwish. I like your voice over Annette's for what its worth. But, Floor is our Valkyrie Queen forever. :) still well done.
