Some of the changes the district put into place this year are causing teachers to feel stressed out.

This is Def not sustainable. Teacher are having mental breakdowns. The expectations are completely unreasonable. No one cares more about student achievement than teachers. But we are being raked over the coals. Stripped of our dignity and quality of life. This cannot keep going. The district is gaslighting the teachers and the public. I have administrators lying right to my face.

He actually believes disruption is the formula to use. Disruption in the classroom is not a good way to teach children. There was a party atmosphere when he announced he was leaving Dallas several years ago. We were lucky enough to have free thinking board members. One of those was not Mike Morath, who brought Miles to Houston... he was on the board that brought him to Dallas, too.

Governor Abbott needs to step up on teacher pay! North east texas New teacher salaries starting 30 to 35 grand a year. My question is if there were more male teachers, would teachers make more? Teachers go to school 3 years longer than most cops do in texas and most cops dont even have an associates degree in anything not even in law! Why is that? Then the cops are given authority over others and have no medical degrees, social degrees. Sure they go to the police academy for 2 to 3 months wow 90 days! While teachers last year had to take a year long extra college course to continue teaching plus still do all the ceu courses ordered by abbot. Why not pay them more than cops make? They are already doing 2 to 3 times more school. Just to be a teacher. Pay the teachers. We are losing so many because the cant aford to teach when they can go to a restaurant and make $15.00 an hr or hobby lobby fot 13 to 20 an hour some convenient stores for $20 hr and so theydid and are still leaving teaching. with out working all the overtime and no pay for that ither and then they dont have to take and pay for all those extra courses. A lot of the courses cops take for ceus are online or most departments pay for them to attend. But dont pay for teacher's time or for them to attend. Another mandatory cost out of their pockets. Teachers walking to school. Teachers living in tents. Teachers without housing. Texas education is on the line. And all that just over pay. Not all the other controversial stuff.

Truth! My sister is one in hisd. You couldn't even pay me enough though! She uses her own money ey even for her classroom setup! I am in a good part just 30 miles north but my kid learns differently and there is just not a lot of resources where I am even. So I pulled him out around covid and homeschooling the best I could with having my own business. Now he goes to a private school and the freedom there is perfect!

Teachers of Houston ISD- Following your Board's guidelines go each month and make a presentation on how Mike Mile's new teaching methods are actually working in the classroom. Keep them at the Board meetings until midnight if you must. But, let them know. Invite them to volunteer in the Houston schools and help teach.

Yes. It's called eureka. It details what a teacher should say and how students should respond. It looks like a literal script. KHOU really needs to stop interviewing union teachers. Union activists are all going to say the same thing, “Teachers can do no wrong and HISD administration is bad.” Teachers Unions and their members do not care about quality education, they only care about giving the least amount effort for the maximum amount of pay.

You teach what you're given. Math, reading, science, etc didn't change over time. School in general now is teaching less because social media has taken over kids minds so schools are really just trying to get kids in and out

First of all, we do not have teacher unions in Texas. They are called teacher organizations. Teachers need an advocate just like any other industry. By the way, I wish it was a government job because, we would have better benefits. Teaching is more like a 12+ hour job. Our work does not stop when the last bell rings. It is easy to sit back and be negative. Teachers need a helping hand not negativity. Be productive. Go sub in your local district.

@@nichellerodriguez1524 Thanks for the thoughtful response. I've attended three grade schools, two junior high and three highschools. Across four states and also have three children. One with an IEP. In over 55 years I've met many teachers and district employee's. Including family. I've dated two wonderful teachers. Apparently I've been unable to witness the excruciating hours they devote to their Prussian style bureaucracy over all that time and space. Unfortunately I have yet to meet anyone of them who exceeds the efforts of other members of the community relative to their pay, position and education. I've heard the exact same complaints since the 1970's. Unfortunately, I think teachers are facing very uncomfortable and uncertain changes in our economy that will affect our children. Nearly all of us are. I wish you well.
