Awesome did you use a factory part or another thermistor from another manufacturer?

My Hisense french door fridge is haunted. Its been at 43 to 46F lately with a set temp of 35 F. The freezer is a comfortable 0F. After testing the fan and damper as you did in this video, I let my fridge cool down while empty of food shelves and bins. The fridge cooled to 35-37F. Unfortunately there is no point to having a fridge with nothing in it. So I replaced all the bins, shelves, and food and let it cool down again. But this time it cooled down only to 41 to 43F and has not gone below that. See... it's haunted. Previously I replaced the thermistor (Encompass part K1430814 ) because of large temp fluctuations. This stabilized the temps but the fridge would not go below 41F (@35F set). Today I unplugged the thermistor for about an hour to test its resistance, and to see if the fridge would cool further like you suggest in the video. With the fridge unplugged the temp settled at between 41 and 43F. Its as if this thermistor is being ignored. Both the new and original thermistors read close to 2.1K ohms at 75 F. In the video you suggest using any 10K ohm thermistor as a replacement. Maybe I should try that. Q?? Why did the fridge cool down properly when empty? That’s weird. I’m tempted to empty again and see if I can repeat that. Thanks for your help. By the way, I looked and couldn’t find your email on KZbin.

So it looks like you replaced the fan. That part number brought up a fan. I’ll send you the thermistor part number. So what you are asking about the unit being empty and reaching temperature and when loaded not reaching temperature. A few things, check the fan speed and air passage . Also make sure the fan is rotating in the right direction. What I’m saying here is, if the fan is rotating in the opposite direction, the temperature at the bottom will be cold and top will not. How long did you wait for it to cool down after putting in food? If sounds like the extra food might be blocking or giving a false reading to the board. Have you replaced the thermistor yet? How is the condenser fan? It appears the board is not getting the correct temperature/signal from the thermistor resulting a damper closing too early.

@@appliancerepairshorts @eideticgoone7035 @eideticgoone7035 1 second ago @appliancerepairshorts Thanks for your help. I’m so glad to have someone lend me a hand. ** I thought I posted this last night, so if it shows up twice, ignore it. Sorry I should have explained that K1430814 shows a fan picture in error. This confused me too but after noticing the description: “Temperature Sensor Part” and cross referencing its location (58) on page 2 of the ‘Exploded view pdf’ to something that looked like a thermistor, and not a fan, I decided to order it (early this year) and indeed it is a thermistor. It looks identical to the one taken out. It also measures almost the same resistance at room temp. With this replacement thermistor, my fridge temp has never gotten to less than 40F until I emptied it the other day. Before I buy yet another thermistor, I thought I should try and see if there is another problem. (See: research[dot]encompass[dot]com/HIS/sb/ExplodedView_HRF266N6CSE.pdf ) What you asked: “A few things, check the fan speed and air passage . Also make sure the fan is rotating in the right direction. What I’m saying here is, if the fan is rotating in the opposite direction, the temperature at the bottom will be cold and top will not.” I can feel air blowing out if the openings. When I replaced the Styrofoam duct and cover I made sure the fit was proper, and the plastic vent opening aligned to the duct holes in the Styrofoam. When cooling I can feel the air come from the vents but I does not seem all that strong. The description of the fan motor says it is 12V and 25W but using the manufacturer’s name I located this same motor online and it is really only 2.5 watts. I have been careful to not block any of the vents. However, with all the drawers in place, the path to the return vent at the lower left, seems like it might be inhibiting flow. That is the design. Like you show in your video, I checked that the fan was blowing cold air when I had the Styrofoam duct out of the way. I’m not sure If I need to visually inspect the fan blades turning unless you think that is necessary. The actual fan is made from two parts: a motor with shaft sticking out one side (K1870599), and blade that accepts this shaft (K1602291) . I don’t think it can be mounted backwards. Its possible the fan motor is weak, but I’m not sure how to test that. It might be a variable speed fan. I don’t know. "How long did you wait for it to cool down after putting in food?" I waited about 2 hours then went to sleep. I woke up a couple of times, and the temp was staying at around 41 to 43F. Same in the morning. It never went below 40F all day. I know because I am using a logging thermometer. ---------- I Experimented: ---------------------------------- Yesterday evening , I ran an experiment to see if could force the fridge temp below 40F. I wired my two thermistors (the original and the one I had bought previously) in parallel to lower the resistance by half. The lower resistance appears as a much hotter temp to the computer. This fooled the computer into cooling the fridge all the way to 34 F. I raised the set point to the max 47F but it kept cooling. At 32F I disconnected my parallel thermistors, and surprise, the computer showed a 'E1' error on the fridge set temp display. The error code went back to 47F when I plugged the single thermistor back in. Next I set the temp to 38F and to my surprise it actually started to hold that temp. :) That lasted all night up to about 5pm today. Now its starting to drift back higher. :( I think this experiment rules out the fan and damper. A few months ago I checked the wire sensor wires from the jack to the computer and found near zero resistance. Not the wiring. Do you think it is time to order another thermistor?
@appliancerepairshorts Жыл бұрын
@@eideticgoone7035 excellent work on doubling the thermistors lol. I have done that. I would order another one. In the video- my video the damper was operating, I think so is yours. Most often it is the thermistor. Try wrapping something around the thermistor. Some Whirlpool units had a sleeve around the thermistor. I think you are doing great. Try wrapping it first before and see. Keep me posted

Nice info thanks, my new hisens refrigerator is verry quiet, only the damper makes the fridge noisy, but its the same noise the damper of your model makes. Is this ok for this model do you think? maybe bad isolation of the unit?.

hi I have the same model, but the fridge is fine but the freezer has stopped working. I've unplugged for a day but still not working, there wasent any ice build up but fan was making a little bit of noise before is stoped working
@appliancerepairshorts Жыл бұрын
You probably have a clogged drain or a defrost issue. If the fan was making a noise, it is frozen. Remove the cover and check. Be careful not to damage anything. Keep me posted. You can check the heater as well

@appliancerepairshorts Жыл бұрын
Your damper is probably fine, the thermistor is probably shorted. I’ll run your model number and see if I can source it. Also some time you can use another thermistor From another brand. Just remember to keep the wire the same length. Meaning if the thermistor in your fridge is 8 “ and if you add a new thermistor, keep it at 8”.

I have a Hisense bottom freezer HRB171N6ASE that is just over 2.5 years old, so the warranty just ran out. Recently freezer temps are out of control. The freezer is set for 5F but the actual freezer temperature goes as low as minus 5F or even colder (i use the wireless outdoor temperature sensor to monitor the actual freezer temps). When the temp goes that low compressor keeps running until its safety switch/thermo disk shuts it down. Then the freezer sometimes comes back on in a “normal call for cold” or sometimes locks out and the temps go as high as 50F with until i manually reset it by unplugging and plugging back. To me it seems that the freezer thermistor has likely gone bad. Whats your opinion?

So sorry just saw your message. You can always email me. Not sure if you were able to find it. I have used a Samsung or LG thermistor before. If you use another brand, make sure to keep the original thermistor wire to the same length. In other words, if it was 12” and you add a wire of 6”, remove 6”from the original.

Posting since I had the same issue. My fridge is model HRF254N6TSE. The cover has three clips on each side that attach to the refrigerator wall. It is tricky to pull it out. What I did was to gently insert a small putty knife pushing towards the center (the idea is to slightly bend the piece to make it release the clips). Measuring from the bottom, the clips are located at 6.25", 13.25" and 20.25". Once one side releases, the piece comes out easily.
