I have a feral kitty too. He was about 6 or 7 months when he moved in from the patio. I opened the door and he and all of his fleas moved right in. That was in 2014. He is the sweetest and happiest cat I’ve ever had. He was skittish for the first year, but always very loving. Now he is calm and just wonderful. I’m so lucky. Oliver is the best!

That's how I got my kittie. A tiny feral kitten outside my back door. She did the hissing like these 2 tying to frighten me away. I grabbed her, and tucked her under my chin, onto my chest and I felt her melt into me. That was it. She was my baby and literally thinks i'm her mom. She is adorable and still with me after 7 or 8 years. She brings joy to my life.

@@imsomeoneandanobody2383 When you foster an animal, it's supposed to be temporary. The animal should be adopted to a forever home, then you take in another foster animal. As a foster, your home is like an extension of an animal shelter. Extra space. A foster fail occurs when the foster carer can't bear to part with the animal, so they keep him/her instead. They always make me giggle, even though the shelters do need the extra space that foster carers provide.

I knew a hissing kitten, once. Turned out to be one of the most fun, loving, fun-loving, intelligent, cool, chill cats I've ever known. It's the quiet kittens you gotta worry about. They're terrified, and need a special kind of person to make them feel safe. I know, because I had one of those, too. Turns out the kind of person they needed was incredibly bad with people, which I'm not. Weird how that worked out.

They're so cute when they hiss. I feel bad that they're frightened enough to do it, but they still look cute. My daughter and I rescued a couple kittens that were around 5 weeks old one rainy night. The female let out a hiss that sounded like it came from her back claws. I named her Boudica because she was such a little warrior. Her brother was named Houdini because the first thing he did was escape and hide.

A big black kittycat came out of the woods one day and looked at me. I thought he was saying, "you better lay in some provisions, lady, 'cause I'm stayin'!" His coat was matted and dirty. I groomed him five, six times a day. He's been with me for a year now. It's a bit odd and awkward because he doesn't like to be held. But I give him all the love I can, plus two squares a day, plus plenty of brushing and fresh water. He talks to me in his scratchy voice. I love him. He is such a brave boy. He can be as weird as he wants around me. All my friends know I don't judge. Sharpie the big black cat is my spiritual guardian. That's what cats do.

I used to live in a place where 1 particular feral mama cat hung around so I fed & named her, in all the years I could not catch her to have her spayed & thereby help her have a healthier life but each litter she had I was able to give that to her babies at the appropriate time, of course. Today 6+years later I have moved away but have one of her babies living happily with me. It took a long time, it seemed, for her to warm up to me and relax & trust me... but now I can’t imagine my life without her... my little Tortoiseshell, Molly 🐾🐾🐾🐈

this one brought tears to my eyes. 13 years ago I decided that I had to keep the two I had been fostering for two months. My first mistake as a foster was giving them proper names, Doug and Dinsdale. Doug didn't want to have anything to do with me, while Dinsdale was a bit more sociable, however he wouldn't allow me to pick him up either. Finally, on the first weekend of the new year, in 2008, Doug allowed me to pet him a bit, and I decided then that I'd have to keep them, because I was afraid that it would be near on impossible to find someone that would take in a pair of kittens that didn't want to interact with their human. Over the years neither ever allowed me to pick them up. It took a quick grasp of the scruff of their neck, or in Dinsdale's case, a fish net to trap him, if I needed to take them to the vet. Despite that, Dinsdale has become quite attached to me, and is always looking for pets and rubs. Doug got quite attached to the other cats, always looking for snuggles with them. Eventually he would rub up against my legs, and he took the job of ordering me to hurry up and get to the kitchen for their breakfast or supper. Sadly, he was diagnosed with a tumor in his chest, and in May of 2020 other systems in his body started to malfunction. The day I loaded him up to go for his final vet visit, was the only time he allowed me to hold and carry him without a struggle.
