My mother and I joined the Sweet Adelines (Sunrise Chorus - Bergen County, NJ) in the late 70's but my dad was with the Montclair Chorus (NJ) under the direction of Artie Dolt and they sang many fabulous arrangements (Walter Latzko - So Long Dearie).....but some of the Renee Craig stuff was insanely wonderful as well. Beautiful music!!!

Wow! That was awesome! I would expect no less from David, a great friend and for a math guy a great historian! I happen to have a DVD of the ceremony from that event in 1998 when we put both of those plaques up and, actually, David, myself, Gil Lefholz, and Dan Henry Bowser planned that whole event. I think the Society already has it but, if not, I do and would be glad to share. It was quite an event with lots of people there and lots of fun singing along. The Society leaders at the time including the Board, Ed Waesche, Greg Lyne, etc. all helped. One of my favorite barbershop events.

Two people. A chance meeting in 1938. The outgrowth of that encounter, innocent and quite incidental at the time, has affected (and, in some cases, maybe even SAVED) countless lives of participants in and patrons of the barbershop art form for decades hence. David's extraordinary closing comments in this marvelous video bring to mind a striking similarity of this incredible movement and the amazing birth of the movement of Alcoholics Anonymous, the genesis of which was also started by two alcoholics meeting and talking with each other in Akron, Ohio in 1935. That "chance" meeting led to birth and proliferation of one of the most influential and life-saving movements of the 20th century (and beyond), AA. Humble, simple and seemingly inconsequential meetings in the grand scheme of things can and do result in truly amazing outcomes! Thank you, David, Jeremy and all who made this video possible.

I worked at the Radisson Muelebach In the early '80s as a Banquet Captain. I can assure you it was not "waning" until the mid 80"s when It was announced the hotel would close to be renovated. in the 80's we did such events as a 10,000 person sit down dinner at Bartle Hall for President Reagan (Roy Clark was the entertainment), a United Nations dinner held by Ambassador Jeane Kirkpatrick at the hotel, and several NFL events hosted by Howard Cosell, and "Dandy" Don Meredith, blowout New Year's Eve parties featuring the likes of George Thorogood with a guest musician, Stevie Ray Vaughn, and enough social events to keep our 21 event spaces supporting enough for 150 employees to just service the event department almost full time. We did The FFA(Future Farmers of America, The International Travel Agents show, and the most prominent Jewish weddings as there was a complete second kitchen on the lower level that could be prepared for kosher meals. We even hosted the National Association for the Blind and had to file down the bedframes in all the rooms so no one would tear up their shins. The '80s were hopping there until the closure. A very real problem was the loss of the blueprints to the property which made the engineering department unable to cost-effectively make needed repairs. The support staff was incredible. The GM, Steve Graves lived on-site with his family in a special suite. Following the announcement and the then preparations for closing in the mid-'80s. We were told to search every room in our inventory process and while walking up the alley from the employee entrance I noticed a door that was exterior, close to Wyandotte St. that had been closed for some time with asphalt from the alley paving many years before, keeping it inaccessible. We forced the door open and were rewarded with thousands of pieces of silver chafing dishes, butter patty and condiment holders, and enough silverware for the hotel. The storage room had been shut for decades. It was incredible. Thank you for the history and certainly the video.

I was at this hotel, back in 2011 during the Barbershop Convention in Kansas City, MO. It is a beautiful hotel. I had taken pictures of this beautiful historic hotel while I was there.

Look how the "Preservation" has been dealt with since. If you don't know where you've been? Your path forward may be filled with detours!
