Columbia River's Hidden Gems: Historic Highway 30 Adventure "Once In A Lifetime Series"
Ever dreamed of driving along cliff edges where waterfalls thunder beside your car and bald eagles soar overhead? Buckle up for a once-in-a-lifetime journey along America's most spectacular road you've probably never heard of - Historic Highway 30 along the Columbia River Gorge.
This isn't your ordinary road trip. We're following the tire tracks of America's first scenic highway, where Model T's once puttered past jaw-dropping vistas that'll make your heart skip a beat. Want to feel the spray of 620-foot waterfalls on your face? Stand at Vista House's crown where you can see four mountain peaks piercing the clouds? Watch massive salmon leap upstream through underwater windows at Bonneville Dam? This once-in-a-lifetime adventure has it all.
Over three unforgettable days, we'll:
Cross the legendary Bridge of the Gods (yes, it's as epic as it sounds!)
Stand face-to-face with roaring waterfalls that'll leave you speechless
Discover hidden museums packed with tales of Lewis and Clark's adventures
Cruise past Mount Hood's snow-capped peak as it towers over the Columbia River
Experience the historic locks that tamed this mighty river
End at Rowena Crest, where the view will make you question if you're still on Earth
No special effects. No fancy filters. Just pure Pacific Northwest magic that'll have you planning your own once-in-a-lifetime gorge adventure before this video ends.
Grab your favorite drink, settle in, and join me for the kind of journey that turns ordinary travelers into lifelong adventurers. This is Historic Highway 30 - where every curve tells a story, and every vista takes your breath away.

We did this trip in fall of 2019, saw many of the places you mentioned. Thanks for the memories! We stayed at the same KOA. The trains going through during the night drove my wife crazy! Me, slept like a baby. After crossing over the Bridge of the Gods and driving down the Washington side our daughter had another gall stone attack, kinda ruined that drive. We got back to our site and she had another attack so we went to the Providence Hood River Memorial Hospital and spent half the night until we got the pain under control. Great staff at that hospital. Enjoy your travels!

My wife and I drive this a couple times a year for a day get away. We love to have visitors come and see our beautiful state. A few years back some teenage visitors decided they were going to throw firecrackers in the dry season. If you look closely at Bonneville Dam (fire truck segment) on the bluff you can see the results of their stupidity. It’s heartbreaking to see the damage done! It used to be all green.

The rock formations in the gorge were carved out during the ice age mega floods that filled the gorge to the brim in many places. Those floods traveled at 60+ mph and drained 450 cubic miles of water out of glacial lake Missoula in Montana 18,000 to 12,000 years ago, repeatedly, more than 40 times.

You think the dams you saw were big. They have nothing on Grand Coulee Dam. Next you go to Washington State you need to follow the Mighty Columbia River up to the largest dam on the Columbia River. It is also the largest dam in North America and The USA. This dam is the Grand Coulee Dam. During the summer there is a laser light show in the face of the dam. Make sure you go up to Crown Point Vista in Grand Coulee. So head north and you can see it along with historic place called Dry Falls. According to the current geological model, catastrophic flooding channeled water at 65 miles per hour (105 kph) through the Upper Grand Coulee and over this 400-foot (120 m) rock face at the end of the last glaciation. It is estimated that the falls were five times the width of Niagara Falls, with ten times the flow of all the current rivers in the world combined.
