Thank you for sharing your story. My Great - Grandmother told me about Guamanians once live around her era. She said that the bay was named " The Chamorro Bay ". Thanks again.
@micronesiapublishing4392Ай бұрын
Your grandmother was correct. CHamoru Bay is named after many CHamoru families living around the bay. They migrated to Yap to work for the German administration at Yap.

@@micronesiapublishing4392 I remember the people of Guam called themselves CHamorus.

Your story is fascinating and parallels my service in the Navy. My homeport was Apra Harbor, Guam. Most of our patrols covered what has become the Federated States of Micronesia. On one trip we visited Woleai Atoll. That night while cruising toward Truk we received a call that a Woelai chieftain had appendicitis. We reversed course and returned to Wolai to pick up the chief, then transported him to Truk. You mentioned Yap. Our patrols of the Western Caroline Islands took us through Ulithi and Yap entroute to Koror, Palau.

Thank you for your service. Your patrolling efforts and intervention regarding the Woleai Chief no doubt saved his life.

citizens of Yap are similar to people of MALUKU, JAVA INDONESIA, Greetings from Indonesia 🇮🇩💪💪💪

Yes, similar to the CHamoru people in the Mariana Islands. Current DNA studies show that we likely originated from Islands Southeast Asia.

My great grand father is from Yap. My grandmother told me he was alive through the Spanish, German, Japanese, and American Yap. He died before he saw our independence. He lived his whole life under multiple colonialists but he had a special place in his heart for the Spanish and even though he died speaking Yapese, Spanish, German, Japanese, and English he prayed in Spanish until his last day he lived to be a 120 still strong and handsome with full body tattoos. I thought that was special. Just wanted to share that story my grandma told me

Omg my grandma whom is Carolinian. She told us that her great grandfather or grandfather if im not mistake is from tamuning. My grandma is the last eldest of the generation which her family is from tamuning. No wonder they call my grandma “ninang tamuning”
@tavioka6243 Жыл бұрын
Tamuning used to be a Carolinian Village. Most of the Carolinians from Guam were sent off to Saipan if they did not cover up their bodies. During that time Spain fully took over Guam & many of them did not follow what they wanted for Guam as of that time the Catholic church was already strong & they still held on to their culture so they round them up & took them over to Saipan. One of the remaining Carolinians who stayed back are the Sablans.

How cute. Our maternal grandmother lived in Tamuneng, and our paternal grandmother lived in CHalan Pågo. We called the one Nånan Tamuneng and the other Nånan Pågo.

very interesting but so hard to hear with the constant music overlay.
@micronesiapublishing4392Ай бұрын
I'm sorry about the music. We use music to tell the story, set the mood, and move the video. I often insist in post-production that the music is not too loud.

Wow nice piece of history. Didnt know Tamuning actually has ties to Yap esp..the outer isle thanks though.

The islands in Micronesia are historically tied together in many ways.

Im from the Caroline islands & at one point in history Germany took control of our islands & some PNG islanders also came over to Pohnpei as officers.
@micronesiapublishing4392Ай бұрын
Yes, they did. I flew down to Brisbane and interviewed the second-generation CHamoru who was born in PNG after they migrated there during the German occupation. Many of them migrated to Australia when PNG became independent.

There are more stories about Micronesia to tell that are not taught in the classrooms. Why not? Because they are not considered important enough to be included in the curriculum. However, we attempt to share the story throughout the videos.
