That house across the street with the yellow siding and wrap-around porch was my grandparent's house. At one time this was the post office for the village of Derry Church (before Hershey existed). The Derry Church railroad station sat on the vacant lot at the railroad crossing. My cousins and I would often walk through the graveyard to check out the old dates on the gravestones. Thanks for bringing back memories.

Even though the healing is not complete yet, it must feel so good to be out and about. God has blessed John in more ways than one. John has a great friend in Cliff, it can be rare have one that will be there for you when you're in need and stand by you through the lowest times. Hersey is a beautiful area, it was watched over for a long time, following Milton Hersey's vision of the town that would bear his name. Some resented a few things, others relish living there. Gorgeous place.

Sometimes when going through an old cemetery I use Find a grave before I go to help find headstones that are hard to read. Also bring a led flashlight to highlight the lettering and dates. Learned this from Sidestep Adventures on their explorations in old Georgia cemeteries.

There's another great cemetery in Derry township, north of Hershey I used to visit often because it sits on a hillside in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by a stone wall that was repaired recently by a boy scout group, I believe... off Devonshire Heights road. At Trinity Burial Ground located on the property of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in downtown Pittsburgh has , amongst its oldest graves, the grave of John Scott, born 1747, died 1818. The church grounds were once part of Fort Duquesne and Fort Pitt. It was also the site of an ancient Native American burial ground. I think there is a grave there from the 1600s.
