Catastrophic flooding that hit the Midwest includes millions of acres of vital farmland in the nation's corn belt, leading to concerns that food prices could be impacted. Many farmers told CBS News they have crop insurance, but it doesn't even cover their losses for things like irrigation, fertilizer and labor.
Each weekday morning, "CBS Mornings" co-hosts Gayle King, Tony Dokoupil and Nate Burleson bring you the latest breaking news, smart conversation and in-depth feature reporting. "CBS Mornings" airs weekdays at 7 a.m. on CBS and stream it at 8 a.m. ET on the CBS News app.

Food prices? You really need to report more accurately and say food & fuel prices as at least 40% of the corn crop is strictly for producing ethanol.

Right? But food corporations will use this to raise prices.

This is actually an area with significant pork and chicken processing. You could see prices go up 5% based on supply chain hickups for exports. Sioux Falls for instance has the second largest pork processor plant, and gets its pigs from much of the flooded area. Sioux Falls ships a lot of its pork out across the USA including to States as far as California

Corporate farming... They're in cahoots and raises their prices, almost like a non-compete contract. And that 30% tariff on all goods coming into the US was pure BS , the American companies raise their prices 40%.

I am going to face starvation in Minnesota! I am single with no dependants. I had a window company quote me 16000 dollars for 4 windows, which I need, because they are 20 years old and have mildew on them. Got get them replaced because then you die of mold. I don't think I will survive the winter without food!

Too bad about the lost crops, but we need to adapt to climate change, and that means abandoning industrial agriculture in favor of vertical farming (and other practices). Otherwise, get used to starving.

Typical reporting, - lets throw in the fear factor of increased prices, it's fun to stir people up in the morning! Every time they do that inevitably it happens because business loves those stories and immediately they raise prices, Greed is a beautiful thing.

Stop burying your head in the sand. We have fkd up this planet. You don’t get to treat Mother Earth like a toilet and expect no consequences, anymore. Nature can’t take anymore. Maybe all these disasters are Earth’s immune response to us. We act so much like a cancer on it.

Why go to South Dakota for interviews on flood damage?? You have PLENTY of people experiencing flood damage in your own state! I am living in a Minnesota town that had damage, we could use some acknowledgment & assistance.

1:33 we don't make paint here or soap or seat or tires, they only thing we make in large quantities is gas. those MAGA farmer have insurance and if they had voted for people who believed in climate change, their crops wouldn't be ruined. It's hard to feel bad for people that don't vote to keep their land

No thanks. All that corn and soy they plant is subsidized by us, and they poison everything to grow it,and most of it goes to feed the tortured animals in the factory meat farms, anyway.
