It will come back much faster than anyplace in the US because they are not hampered by EPA, FEMA, and a dozen other regulatory agencies that demand countless permits, estimates, and studies before rebuilding. Witnessed it in Belize. The US can be its own worst enemy for disaster recovery.

Take it from someone that experienced Hurricane Maria (cat 5) a few years ago, I know that feeling after the hurricane leaves. Wishing all the people affected by this force of nature a quick bounce back. PS> the occurrence was so devastating I remember having a trauma response hearing rain fall on the roof at night years later.

From personal experience: all those buildings that look 'alright', roofs intact etc. Those 150 MPH winds drive the rain through the tightest windows, the tiniest cracks, water pours in and ruins carpets, floors furniture everything, the walls warp and buckles etc. etc.

But I know of 2 smaller islands right next to the one u r on that only have a few thousand that live on them. If this destruction happened where u r I don't even want to thi k about these smaller ones n if anyone perished on those islands as well as yours u were on. Thank God u survived. Very scary. I hope everyone came through safely. As someone who recently experienced the Derecho in Southeast Texas, I couldn't help noticing how many power poles were left standing after this powerful storm, even when palm trees fell. That will certainly aide in the recovery.

I'm in Dominica. After maria many soldiers were deployed here. They didn't clear roads or debris. They only guarded the looted businesses. In my opinion, if Dominicans didn't loot and riot after maria it would have taken a full year off the recovery, which we are still not completely recovered

This footage is from the leeward side of the island, meaning it didn't get the storm surge impact. This devastation was caused by the wind.

If you look closely, most of the houses are standing strongly . It’s the roofs that have gone . These roofs will built back more strongly with proper hurricane ties . This is mandatory to get insurance now .

This reminds me of Antigua and Ragged Island, Bahamas after Cat 4/5 Irma / Maria hit back in I think 2015 or 2017. Lots of shredded trees, decapitated and collapsed buildings. Praying that the people are safe and no lives were lost.

I actually live in a place that gets hurricanes frequently and I think it's important for people to see exactly what a hurricane can do. Do you see no value in the documentation of history? I am looking at the trusses left behind on many of the houses that lost roofs, they appear to be in 24 to 36 or more inch centers which is crazy to me. You see some houses with roofs intact, then you see houses minus roofs with those huge truss gaps. Hopefully when they rebuild, they build to a better code.

Not trying to downplay the destruction, but after what just hit this town, I think they fared well. Most of the houses are standing with expected roof damage. These folks know how to build storm resistant homes. To gauge the wind force just look at how all of the trees are shredded. Was there a big storm surge? It doesn't look like there is any debris piled up after the ocean receded. My prayers to everyone affected.

That’s the same stupid thing Europeans say talking about wood frame homes in America being destroyed by tornadoes.
