We went out to Minnesota to link up with Cam Bynum, the only Filipino American defensive player currently in the NFL. While repping Philippines-inspired cleats and towel, he heroically came down with the game-sealing interception to defeat the Jets.

After the game, his mother Jen gave him the Philippines flag and he ran across the stadium with it. This was one of the most public displays of Filipino heritage in NFL HISTORY! So glad we were able to witness this.

It's great to see a Filipino playing in the NFL. My wife is from the Philippines and it's great to get to know his heritage. We just got back from the Philippines on April 25th. If you have never been to the Philippines you need to go there. The people there are so kind and friendly. The only bad thing is the long flight but it's worth it to go there. It really is a tropical paradise.

Probably the most famous NFL player with Filipino heritage (but is not known to many Filipinos) is Roman Gabriel. He played for the Los Angeles Rams and Philadelphia Eagles in the 1960s and the 1970s. He was the NFL MVP in 1969, Pro Bowl MVP in 1970 and NFL Comeback Player of the Year in 1973. He also played a Native American in the John Wayne's movie, "The Undefeated".

Football was a little bigger in the Philippines in the 80s than today. I remember my dad and his friends watching football when I was young. It would be great if football becomes bigger in the Philippines so I can watch more of it when I retire there, without having to pay for expensive contracts that the NFL has.
