Why didn't they inform or consult King David?

Good question.. the only reason i can think is that King David did not want to start the hostilities and preferred a defensive strategy because it was Scotland's fault the English became aggressive as the Scottish still owed to much ransom for the King who was captured at the battle of Neville's cross.. here is a quote i found ..''the English king, Richard II, demanded the outstanding ransom payment plus the return of ‘English’ land in Scotland; the Scottish king, Robert II, began to fortify his castles and entered into an agreement with France that would provide troops and equipment in the event of war.''
