The huge number of flags of Russia can be explained by its federalism. During the Russian Empire, Russia was considered a country of only Russians and other Slavs, but with the coming to power of the Bolsheviks, people in all republics of the Soviet Union finally got the right to call themselves Ukrainians, Yakuts, Belarusians, Kazakhs...(although it's hard to call it that, since the Soviets also wanted to Russify all citizens of the USSR) 0:37 - 0:59 All these flags belong to the separatists of the Russian Empire during the Second Russian Revolution, which killed about 16 million people. 0:45 This German tricolor belonged to Yakutsk, which wanted to separate from Russia(Russian Empire, white and red army)and become an independent country(WW1, Russian Revolution). Now Yakutsk is called the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) and is the largest subject of Russia. 0:46 The Japanese Empire occupied a huge amount of land in Siberia during the Second Russian Revolution. (I had to use a translator because I doubt KZbin will be able to do a normal translation from my native language...)
