I finally read some historical romance novels and here is what I thought of them! 😊What are some of your favourite historical romance books? Otherwise, are you reading any books themed around Valentine's Day?

Having binged the entire series Bridgerton series last year the one I enjoyed the most is Romancing Mr. Bridgerton which is Colin's story. Also the time difference between The Duke and I and the Tessa Dare is 14 years, the genre has changed a lot since then! I haven't read any Lisa Kleypas yet but I may start with that one! I recommend another Tessa Dare series, the Girl Meets Duke series.

Thanks for the recommendations! Will definitely try out more Tessa Dare in the future. I didn't know The Duke and I was written that far back, but still, it left a sour taste in my mouth so I don't think I'll pick up any more of her books, my TBR is massive enough already 😅

I haven't read a lot of historical romance, but I have read a few Tessa Dare books and they have all been enjoyable. My favourite so far is also part of the Castles Ever After series, When a Scot Ties the Knot. That one was a lot of fun!

Uh, that one also sounds really good! I'll definitely have to pick up some more of her books in the future 😊

Can I just say YES! to your reaction to The Duke and I. I read and vlogged about it when the Netflix series was first released in January last year and I can’t believe so many people were willing to just skip over the majorly flawed plot point. I didn’t bother with the rest of the series either 😬

Yup, I also didn't hear many people talk about that part, and after reading it I was like: "Really? We just ignore this? Nah." 😅

If you followed any recent discussion of that book you will find that most people did not willingly skip over that plot point. When the book first came out it had very few followers because she was a new author so there wasn't much discussion about it at all. It wasn't until the second book that the series really took off because it's an excellent story and everyone was focusing on that book. The series continues to be beloved because that is the only incident like it in over 14 books, and the author has mentioned that she regrets having included that plot point in the first.

@@Verlopil I read the book in January of 2021 when the series first came out and can confidently say that I watched numerous videos, read many reviews and saw plenty of posts on social media and people were not talking about this seriously problematic plot point. Lots of people were picking up the book because of the Netflix series and raving about it…which is where my comment has come from. I also found very little from the author themselves on the matter. Things may have changed recently but that was not the case when I read this book. Or left the comment 6 months ago.

I watched the Bridgerton series and found it very cringey at times 😅 Had to stop after a couple of episodes, so I'm glad to hear the romance and tension between the two main characters is better in the books. But, if I want to try a historical romance in the future, I think I'll go with the second one since you really liked it it seems. Fun vlog!

Yeah, I also found the show a bit cringey. Definitely go for Romancing The Duke if you're ever up for it, it was a lot of fun 😊

Tessa Dare is a great start if you want to start reading historical romances, I would suggest checking out her Girl Meets Duke series, a lot of people have enjoyed that series. Another historical romance author you can check out is Sarah Maclean, a lot of people have enjoyed her Bareknuckle Bastards series. For Lisa Kleypas I would check out her wallflower series or the Hathaway series, those are her most loved series. Eloisa James is another author that is loved by a lot of people as well

Because the new Batman movie is coming, I reread Batman: Annual 2. Written by Tom King and art by Lee Weeks and Michael Lark. It is a cat and mouse story between Catwoman and Batman and it goes into why Batman always has problems catching Catwoman. He has a million resources, years of experience, tons of gadgets, and the vow that he will stop crime from ever happening. Catwoman has experience, a lot of mad skills... and a whip. Lol The both also get into a debate about past encounters because the Batman Catwoman story has been retold in a bunch of different ways, they're kind of unsure (and sure) on who's telling the truth. It does get a little spicy and sweet. I highly reccomend reading this one. You would find this story in Batman Volume 5: Rules of Engagement TBR I usually pick up reccommendations based on the way people feel about a book. The way you talked about the Romancin Duke; the big smile, the small pauses, your energy talking about the book sold me. Your reaction reminded me when an anime character tries out the best food they've ever had and gush about it. Lol Loved the new video! 👋🤓

Haha I'm glad it came across that I did really enjoy reading that book. Thanks for the recommendation, I don't read a lot of superhero comics, but I've always been interested in Batman, so might pick it up at some point.
