It's a shame those hats are extinct... I absolutely love the elegant curves and how they elevate the silhouette 🖤
@samwiseman1506 ай бұрын
You can still buy them - old or new. Old silk top hats are expensive, modern ones are cheaper and not silk. I have five top hats, all wool felt and less formal, but totally worth it - you feel amazing wearing one. I can definitely recommend giving it a go.

Wonderful video, it's strange to see that white had more varieties than to what we're acostumed to, I always thought that only a white waistcoat was wearable with white tie, good to see that there are more options. Anyway, keep up with the good work. 😁

3:44 You can wear any hat you like, as long as it's black. And a top hat. I really do wish I could get together a frock coat and an opera hat 4:02 for my trip to see _Furiosa_ .

Marvelous! All that's required is an invitation to a white tie event. Sadly, those seem non-existent these days. A few years back went to the Salzburger Festpiele, but I can assure you, the formality of dress couldn't even compare. Formality is dead. Everything sounds more final and definitive in German...Die Formalität ist tot.

My one issue (not with the video with my wardrobe) is that my antique top hat is from the late 1880s and my opera hat has some threading that needs replacement but I’m to lazy to find a haberdasher that does repair. /:

That's not what gentleman gazette said, the black waistcoat is for the waiters. 2 gallon is for white tie, but 1 gallon was also worn in the United States.Opera pumps should be worn though, and its required I believe.

@Vintagebursche6 ай бұрын
Boaters are semi formal, so no tailcoats. But you could wear it with a dinner jacket.

Could you wear a boater with morning wear in the summer (or maybe a Streismann suit)
@Vintagebursche6 ай бұрын
Maybe Stresemann/stroller suit as it is also considered semi formal. Please don't wear it with morning dress. 😬

Looking impeccable! Do you have any recommended places where I can purchase stiff front shirts/collars? I'm thinking about having a vintage-inspired tuxedo made, so a tuxedo with a stiff shirt, black bow tie and white tie waistcoat.

I am shocked (and appalled, frankly...) that you very nonchalantly ignored one of THE most important accessories, even though you were prominently sporting it through much of the video. No White Tie is EVER complete without a clip-on microphone, preferably of the fluffy variety. 😆

A useful reminder that the extremely stringent set of "rules" concerning WT and BT really only crystallised as these garments began to become less widely worn. A bit like the "no brown in town" nonsense: post-WW2 insecure petty bourgeoisie angst.

I find it interesting how you love to wear historical men's wear yet you stay 'current' with your need for body tattoos. Just saying.... But then again there's also another aspect of you, when you are not afraid to play the fool and do your short comedic sketches. You do look great in your historical clothes. And it takes guts to wear them in today's western societies where far too many people look like they get all of their mismatched wardrobe of leisure wear from Walmart.
