Razib Khan is a geneticist and Substacker. He joins the podcast to talk about what genetics can tell us about the human past and the progress made in his field over the last few decades. The conversation touches on population structures in Europe, India, China, and the Western Hemisphere, along with Neanderthal and Denisovan admixture among different races and how different fields define what it means to be human. Richard and Razib discuss questions including how Indian castes were able to remain genetically distinct for such a long time, the original "great replacement" in Europe, and the connection between state capacity and genetic heterogeneity, as can be seen in India and China. The conversation then shifts towards a discussion about their experiences in academia, recent radicalization on college campuses, and growing up as minorities in the United States.
Released October 10, 2021.

Razib is so unapolegetic; "I want to know the truth, this is what we know about the truth" (heavily parafrasing), I f-ing love him.

Glad we got the "basic" PCA version of the talk. Luckily I'm brushed up on my multivariable calculus and linear algebra which we all use daily in optimizing our basket of goods from Save-a-Lot

It strikes me that just because an ethnic group has not existed since time immemorial it is still reasonable to think that it is somebodies evolutionary interest to want to maintain their ethnic group into the future because it is a way of propagating people who are more similar to you and thus giving your genetic influence a longer life

Wow Interesting what Razib said about values being inverted, because it's exactly what is predicted as a sign (among others, and among which some have already taken place) of the end of times.

Does anyone know of any genetic tree of different population groups, I know many done by Cavalli Sforza but I think it is out of date. Does anyone know any recent, authoritative map or diagrams out there?

Razib puts a lot of them in articles on his Substack. I don’t know if he’s done a global one, but he put out a new Indo-European genetic-geographic map a month or so ago, and he often includes those kinds of things in his articles.
