The Saguntese would have raided Carthage, because they knew for a fact they were all fucked; they were probably not unanymous in that decision, but if you're a Saguntese warrior, you can imagine thinking "screw it" and going out to raid some Carthaginians, before they come and put everyone to the sword anyway, like "we might as well make ourselves deserve it."

3:50 I’m no historian so no clue if this is correct, but I could easily see if you had a bunch of mercenaries you owed, you might find some that were willing to continue fighting for you for a partial sum and even if not, if you pay only half the mercenaries to fight the other half then you’d already be getting a 50% discount.
