10 miles would have been a decent distance to cover. When you consider the weight of each Roman soldiers kit, the semi-arid conditions of North Africa, supply wagons (which are notoriously slow moving, as Napoleon knows all too well) and coordinating 17000 men in a line, I’d be happy to get 5 miles :P Also imagine outnumbering a force of Huns 3 to 1 2000 vs 600, and running at their first movement. Really goes to show how much atilla cultivated an army that was feared around the world.
